Dont get me wrong, this is a great album, but the sound quality is terrible. The 2cd 'Memories' has replaced this one, and is by far amuch better investment, even for the casual elvis fan. Besides, this one has some edited versions, like the gospel medley, which is restored in its full lenght in the 'memories' cd. So, even though, this is the original relese, save your money and go get the other one.

Rumors of his demise were greatly exaggerated! In one night the King clearly reclaims his crown. In peak voice with a maturity and sensitivity unequaled, he's back more intense and impressive than ever before. Can't be without this one!

This will be the 25th year Elvis has left the building.(Even though alot of people have seen him at Burger Kings and KFC)If there is anyone out there who can't understand why THE KING,IS THE KING?Just play this one record. The MAN was at his Peek, and everyone thought he was washed up.MTV,unpluged, has stollen this 1968 idea for there private concerts.Elvis talks about each hit,and lets it all out on his biggest hits(Heatbreak Hotel,HoundDog,All shook Up," and later,"Big Boss Man,Guitar Man)My all time favorite cut is "Where Could I go But to the LORD up Above my head/Saved"medley,and "Memories." We even get a live version of "Blue Christmas," on this Masterpiece of Elvis,Live, and recorded for his great comeback special in 1968.This recording is perfect except for the sudden cuts between some of the numbers.I know now why THe King IS THE KING.

This is the soundtrack to the Elvis special that ran on NBC back in 1968, commonly called "The Comeback Special". Comeback from what, you may ask? Well, his career was at a low point at the time. He had been stuck in (mostly)bad movies for years, and his records weren't selling like they used to. He still recorded an occasional great song, like "Guitar Man" and "U.S. Male", but few people seemed to notice. When the TV special was broadcast, it helped Elvis regain his popularity, hence the term "Comeback Special". The performances on the special included live "stand up" performances with an orchestra, live "sit down" performances with a group of his buddies and lip synched production numbers. The music is uniformally great. But on this particular CD, some of the songs have been edited, particularly to remove long instrumental passages where a dance sequence would appear in the special. This is still a great CD, but you are better off getting the double CD collection called Memories, which has all the songs in unedited form.

This album is awesome. What a mix of styles, in addition to live performances and great taped stuff, too. Buy this and the Aloha Special and you're set for life. (Tiger Man is worth a nod, too.)

The Album that saved his carear,
This review is from: NBC-TV Special '68 Comeback! (Audio CD)
In the late 60's, Elvis had become stale and a joke. But after his NBC tv special (and this album) people sat up and rememberd the King once again. This album could be thought of as the first"unplugged" album. It is an impressive mixture of live full blown sets, and personal acustic sets with just the King, a few guitars, and a bunch of screaming girls. This is a novel album, but the constant listenability is small. I like this album, but would rather listen to a studio album. But a true Elvis fan should own this album...

If you only ever buy one Elvis album this has to be it.
In the same week that this tv show aired Apollo 8 orbited the Moon and the occupants became the first humans in history to truly leave Earth.Yet despite this awesome achievment more Americans tuned into the greatest comeback of all time; the Elvis NBC TV Special From the moment the show opens with Trouble/Guitar Man, all the way through the classics like Blue Suede shoes, Hound Dog, Jailhouse Rock and Can't Help Falling in Love , to the down on dirty "in the round" Lawdy Miss Clawdy , One night and even Blue(Play it dirty man)Christmas, show that this was truly one of the greatest moments in music history. It is simply the greatest from the greatest Contenders, some. Pretenders, many. There is only one King!

The King's return to the Stage.,

After a few years in the army and a few years of doing movies,Elvis hadn't performed live in front of an audience for a decade. Elvis-Tv Special is the audio recording of the 1968 NBC-TV Special, that marked Elvis' return to stage. At the time of this concert the king still had it. He went out there with his band and rocked the house with many of his best songs. The performances are quite good, and much better than most of the live albums that would follow. If you're curious about Elvis in concert this is the CD to buy.
