4.0 out of 5 stars It's the only game I play now
I previously owned March Madness 2005 and Hoops 2K8, both for PS2. I know there are a lot of die hard 2K fans, but I really like the EA games better. In fact, I preferred MM 2005 over 2K8. I thought MM 2005 had a better "floor" angle camera which made me feel like I was in the game. 2K8 players seemed too shiny and the crowd noise bothered me as it seemed like it...

Be careful with this game. It froze on me during dynasty mode. I actually got the game replaced by Amazon and the next copy did the same thing. EA Sports actually stated that they will not release a patch to fix the problems with this game. Beware!

2K8 players seemed too shiny and the crowd noise bothered me as it seemed like it played in a constant loop with an annoying whistle.

That said, NCAA basketball 10 is a huge improvement over both of those games. First off, the graphics are much better, which should be a given since we're comparing PS2 vs. PS3. There are a lot of little cool features that are at least new to me since I haven't bought the EA version of the game since 2005:
-Real schedules (dynamic update required)
-Live scores and ESPN radio at the main menu. This seems to udpate several times per day.
-Real weather updates from your favorite school
-Easily download the rosters of real players names and the announcers will say SOME of the player's last names during the game

I really enjoyed the dynasty mode in MM 2005, but never got into it in 2K8. There doesn't seem to be that many improvements to the dynasty mode in 2010, but that doesn't bother me as much because I really enjoy online matches. Playing against real opponents is much more fun than playing agains the AI computer. Online games are generally fast (80% of the time), but once in awhile you'll get a choppy connection. It is fairly easy to find an opponent if you select "Play Now". Finding opponents to play in the lobbies is much more difficult. Online matches are fun too, because you get ranked compared to all other people.

The only bad part about playing online is 50% of my opponents seem to choose Kentucky, but they are pretty easy to beat if you double-team John Wall (point guard).

As other people have noted, there are some glitches. The one that I've seen the most is there is a bad camera angles that occur every once in awhile for an entire game. The only way to explain it is that the camera is not centered around the ball. For instance, when shooting a free throw, sometimes it shows the players feet, which makes no sense. This happens 1 out of every 20 games or so.

Another glitch is the crowd noise sometimes is really wrong. In a few games, the crowd booed the entire game, even when I was the home team and I was winning.

Other things that could be improved:
-There is no traveling in the game
-There are no "held / jump balls ", even though they have possession arrows
-The auto-subs needs to improve with the default settings (for online play). Michigan State will never sub during a 10-minute half during online play unless someone gets into foul trouble.

Overall, however, this game is a lot of fun and I recommend it if you're into college basketball. It's nice to have an option to not listen to Dick Vitale and choose CBS sports instead.

4.0 out of 5 stars NCAA hoops for PS3, December 18, 2009

These other reviews were overly harsh. The presentation of this game is beyond what has ever been seen in a college basketball game. It is almost like you are watching a game on TV.

My review is trying to resemble what reputable gaming websites say -- about a 7 or 8 out of 10. Everyone generally agrees that the new motion offense is very cool, and I really like that addition.

In the end, it depends on what you are looking for. If you want a TV-like experience, this is the game to get. Gameplay can be challenging at times, but you gain better graphics.

I bought this game for my 10 year old son and he LOVES the game. The only complaint that I have is that he is so into the game that it is very hard to get him off it. Other than that, the graphics look great and it is amazing. It's very intense in that it encourages voice interaction with the TV screen.

4.0 out of 5 stars 2k fans show some RESPECT!!!, March 27, 2011

Ok, first off let me say this....I am a long time fan of college basketball and EA Sports ever since NBA Live 95. With that being said, College Hoops 2k8 is the BEST NCAA B-Ball game ever made...BUT, NCAA Basketball 10 by EA is a close 2nd and has somethings that the 2k series doesn't and hasn't had that are great!

I LOVE THIS GAME.....I really do, I have been playing it for 2 years now, and it is very good. Being that EA already has over 10 sports titles, including Madden, Fifa, NBA Jam, etc, and 2k only has like what? 4 games to focus on? Give EA a break and to have their hands full...this game is DAMN GOOD!

The commentary is authentic, the courts are great. Unlike 2k the online mode is flawless, not much lag...and this game has never froze on me. The dynasty mode and player models are very well made and thought out. You can play up to a 30 year dynasty with any team of your choice. After the season there is also the McDonalds All American game....and the NIT. The ball handling is also better than any 2k bball game that I have ever played! You can also take over a smaller school and take them to the NCAA with other job offers along the way.

This game does have flaws and glitches, but what game doesn't? This is an overall FUN and GREAT game, there are even people that have done very good roster updates online for the 2010-2011 season that you can download for FREE! Sorry for you Xbox "brown nosers". If you dont have this game, get it.....and get it now! It is the last for a while by EA, but you can find it cheaper at a pawn shop Im sure. Is this the best b-ball game ever? NO, but you 2k punks quit hating until you play it for at least a week, ENJOY FOLKS!!!!!!

If you love college basketball, you'll love this game. Unfortunately, its the last one EA will make, as they have stopped producing the NCAA basketball game franchise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great in-game Experience, January 26, 2011

This is by far the best Collegiate basketball game every created, period. I don't understand why people are bashing on this game. It has beautiful graphics, great selection of teams and plays, and a wonderful online play platform.

Things I like:

Motion Offense: It's by far the best addition I like from NCAA Basketball series. It gives the player a genuine feeling of how basketball is played at the collegiate level. Once you master the MO and fluent with calling plays, you can beat anybody on any court with any team in the country. It's what NCAA basketball really is and why people like the sport! This EA team has really done a fantastic job on mimicking the real basketball experience. I really wish the NBA series could learn from this team.

Skill set: Like I mentioned, I really like the way your favorite school team is capable of beating anybody in the country, let it be Kansas, Duke, Kentucky, or Syracuse. Every team is at least given one skilled player that can make all the difference in the world, if you use him right of course. Being mid-major or even C ranked in the game shouldn't affect your confidence in your favorite players. Every team has its strengths and weaknesses, all you need to do is to find the right offensive approach (man versus zone) and exploit those weaknesses (post versus perimeter). Defense is also strongly emphasized in this game. With a good use of the "defensive assist" button and the correct defensive play-calling, a great defensive team, such as Purdue, can very well keep an opponent under 50 points and 40% shooting and grind out a win. Again, very realistic!

Commentary: There are two teams from CBS and ESPN. I prefer the CBS team as the ESPN version can sometimes get repetitive. However, Dick Vitale does bring his best game with many of his signature phrases (XXXXXX, BABY! etc.) Having Erin Andrews on the sideline every time you change tempo also gives a more realistic feeling.

Things that can be improved:

Out of position players: This seems to happen in quite a few EA games. The classical example is when you're on a fast break, your wing players sometimes run so fast and so wildly that they get out-of-bounce when you pass the ball to them. Another example is when a player dunks and falls behind the baseline, his body is virtually teleported back onto the court after the inbound pass, which deducts a few points from the realistic scale.

Online gameplay freeze-up: There are two problems here. First one is when you choose Play Now, you get matched up against a random player but you won't be able to select teams or to proceed without an unknown amount of wait time. You can choose to wait or select exit and enter again. The other happens when you enter a timeout and choose to end timeout too quickly the game will freeze at the timeout frame, for both players.

Overall, I'd give this game five stars despite a few glitches and inconvenience. I hope you all enjoy the game for a little longer since there's not going to be a NCAA Basketball 2011, which is really a shame.

For those of you who love college basketball games, this one is the best. It has virtually every Division I school included with updated rosters of eact teams. The new ESPN and CBS commentaries that were added give it a more real life experience although it can get annoying at times. There are plenty of game modes to choose from as well from dynasty to just tournament modes. Overall it is a fun game that will not disappoint.

Ladies and Gentlemen, if you are wondering why I hate EA basketball games, then take a look at this game and you will see for your self. Some people will give you a load of crap by comparing this game to games that are two, three years old if not older. Don't buy into this crap. This game I will grant you has a ton of options, and two different types of commentaters, on the one side you have the ESPN set, which gives you the ESPN Broadcasting team and they do avery good job. The other team of folks, well let's just say they do a lack luster job. If your team is even a one point difference in the ratings you will get blown out of the water. Your people make passes that even a first your freshman knows he shouldn't make. This game lacks a lot of things that hey, I could write all day about. This is why EA, went the extra mile to lock up the Colligate basketball license, as well as the NFL license, because the competition (2ksports) where rapidly over taken the sports game market, buy storm. Everyone that is a 2ksports fan, knows without a doubt that 2k would have produced a college basketball that would have been well worth the money. If you don't believe me, just go on youtube, and check out videos from their other sports games (NBA 2k10, Mlb 2k10, NHL 2k10), and see for yourself. That is what a game should look like, sound like, and play like. I will wait it out until 2k gives me a collegiate basketball game that I can enjoy and be proud to have in my library. Yes, I did buy this game, because I wanted to give them a chance to prove they had a quality product, and yes I was disappointed. No, I will not buy another basketball game from EA, and YES, I am selling my copy. Save your money, and go 2k.

The game itself is very fun and better than any college basketball game i have played. Now in the game there is CBS and ESPN which is awesome and if you want to feel like your playing you would watch the highlights between timeout and halftimes but i found out that it will freeze. So i took it back to gamestop and got another one. Came home it did it again. Which really will fire you up. otherwise if u like college bball you will enjoy the game
