Decent game, but not much of change from 08,

This is a decent game that does include a few more minor features than the previous edition. Whether or not those few extras make it worth buying is up to you. The commentators still get slip up now and then, and the actual gameplay and graphics are no different from 08. I would wait until the price comes down before making it a permanent part of my collection.

Some Changes from '08, Not for the Better,

Considering how little improvement EA Sports put into this years edition, you'd have to think that the PS2 is being phased out.
Of course with this year's game, you have the roster updates, along with any changes in uniforms and helmets. There are some minor changes to the Campus Legend and Dynasty modes. The DB Cover position drill in the Campus Legend mode was changed for the worse. The view of the field zooms farther out but doesn't include the extreme sidelines. If the WR does a very shallow sideline route he goes out of view then suddenly reappears while you frantically try to get your DB over to cover him. It's harder to run the ball against the CPU, but easier to pass. The CPU defenders all play like All-Americans against the run, but mediocre against the pass. I also noticed more QB sacks even without playing the Campus Challenge pennant. Some of my team's more mediocre DE's and DT's play like Reggie White or Micheal Strahan clones. School rosters still max out at 70 players (I wanted to see it up to 75). Basically I'd say this years NCAA Football plays like last years Madden NFL game (lack of a ground game and poor pass blocking). Before you play a game go into the game settings and lower the penalties to at least 20% or you will be bombarded with penalties. I have been an avid fan of the PS2 NCAA Football series since the 2004 edition, but with the lack of effort by EA sports to really improve this years game I need to finally buy that PS3. In any case, if you're an avid fan of the series and don't mind spending the $40, then get it, it's not that bad. Otherwise, wait until the price lowers or get the '06 or '07 versions if you don't have them already.

As far as gameplay, graphics, and all that jazz; it's the same exact game as last year. Except for the presentation of it; also a few minor things done to the dynasty mode, it's virtually the same. Theirs a mascot challenge, which is just playing with the mascots...kinda dumb. Although within Dynasty mode recruiting is a little better. Safeties actually can tackle better, and some skill positions are faster. Also unless you look at the bench reps and speed, that oversized man child of a WR might be overlooked to become your next great TE. It just feels like you went online and got a downloadable update that's it. Plus to get the rosters this year it costs $25.00. It's not worth buying. Flat out.

Once again, EA Sports Screws Their Customers,

Outside of 1 or 2 new tackle animations, a slightly tweaked interface, and better jersey number management IT'S THE EXACT SAME GAME AS THE '08 VERSION. They repackaged it, sold it to the same suckers, and made a few hundred million bucks which is virtually all profit as they probably put about $10.95 worth of R&D into this piece of crap.
This is customer fraud at it's worst. This game is basically unchanged since 2006. I wised up this year and bought a used copy so as to not give EA any of my money. Next year, I'll forgo this title completely. This is what happens when video game companies get exclusive licenses, like EA has with the NCAA and the NFL. With no competition, there is absolutely no incentive to make a quality product. I am done with this series until they make some dramatic changes, fix the g-damn bugs, and finally give us AD mode. I will make every effort not to buy ANYTHING from EA until they start showing the customer a little respect.

My son asked for this game. He has a few other games similar to it and he loves football. He wanted it for a few of the college players he followed.

I will be buying a PS3 because it is very obvious that PS2 games will never get the bells and whistles that the other versions get, no matter what the year and even at 7.99 the price I paid at Gamestop, I felt ripped off..Why charge over $20 bucks for any PS2 games if you are not going to put the effort or pay your customers any respect and put out essentially the same product year after year for forty plus bucks..If I am going to spend good money on games I want the last product and there is NO WAY you will get that with aPS2 game..

The game overall is pretty much the same from the last previous titles. Just a few changes here and there but nothing major. Feels like EA Sports is trying to get the customer to buy the PS3 versin but that version has better looking players and more options but still has alot of work to be done as well. Best bet is to buy the game used and not brand new because its not worth twenty dollars.

If your a fan of previous incarnations of NCAA Football you know what your getting. I was a little disappointed that only a few schools uniforms where updated. Cincinnati and Cal for example but schools like Hawaii and SMU were not. Not sure why because the screenshots for the XBOX 360 and PS3 versions have them changed. I guess it is just the world forgetting about the PS2 system.
