3.0 out of 5 stars Average at best
NCAA football 2004 was one of the most anticipated games of 2003, however there's not a whole lot to get excited about with the newest version of the football franchise. The gameplay is almost identical to the 2003 edition and the dynasty mode is pretty much untouched. With lack of good sports titles available for the Gamecube, EA is the only company really that sports...

I'm sitting here at work writing this review because I'm suffering seperation anxiety! My new found love is sitting at home, alone, and I can hear her calling too me! I have a few warnings about buying this game. Your favorite team's fight song will repeat in your head 24-7 (especially when you can't be playing). You will convince yourself you're qualified to coach a Division 1A school after finishing your second season. Finally, you will find it necessary to describe, in detail, to uninterested friends, family and co-workers your nail-biting upset victory against your most hated rival. The Dynasty Mode is insanely detailed. The game play is slightly improved over last year's release (and in my opinion more realistic than Madden). Most improved the feel of "televised" games. If you take the time to name your entire roster (which should be a necessity) the announcers will say their names (atleast those that would be considered common last names, it's way more than you can believe). In closing, if you just like football, this title triumphs over Madden (and that's saying something) and even if you need an NFL fix it is worth adding this title to your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Football Game On Gamecube Ever Period., August 15, 2007

= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: NCAA Football 2004 (Video Game)
I got my cube in 03 and quickly purchased the 03 version, obviously. Excellent football sim, best I had played to that point. Then got 04, which was basically the same but better. I then got 05 the next year and was very depressed at how much worse it had gotten as far as game play and graphics - more Maddenish which to me is worse - lack of control over the player is the best way I can describe it. Well its now going into the 2008 era and yeah I'm still playing this game, thats how perfect it is. Perfect graphics, perfect control, perfect dynasty mode, way better than 05, they must have changed programmers or something after this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, excellent game, February 13, 2004
This review is from: NCAA Football 2004 (Video Game)
After a sizable number of hours playing the 2003 version, I finally decided it was time to upgrade now that the price of NCAA 2004 started dropping. I'm glad I took the plunge. The differences between the two games are not huge, but they are important. The gameplay is even more realistic. The broadcast commentary is not quite as annoying and repetitive. The Dynasty Mode - where I spend most of my time - has improved greatly, although it was fantastic last year.

Here's an example. I was playing NCAA 2003 as the coach of the Golden Flashes of Kent State. Over several years, I had successfully built the program to the highest prestige level. I was given another three-year contract with the following expectations: 1. Finish in the top 10 two of three years, win the conference each of the three years or win one national championship. 2. Maintain the current prestige level of the program. In the first year of my contract, I won the national championship. Year two, I won the conference and finished in the top 10. Year three, I lost three games, including the bowl game, and finished in the top 25. I therefore met the first expectation of my contract, but I was fired because the school's prestige level went down due to a three-loss season. This would never happen in real life (unless you are Frank Solich). NCAA 2004 has a new "job security" scale that shows how well you are doing. Given the same scenario, I'm sure I would still have my job. Also in the 2004 version, other schools will come recruit you to be their coach if you are doing especially well. Very cool.

A most recommended game. One warning: make sure you have plenty of extra time coming up before you buy this, because you'll quickly become addicted.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Game, not perfect, December 20, 2003
This review is from: NCAA Football 2004 (Video Game)
Graphics : B+
Playability: A
User Options: A+

Some of the animations are useless (like the close ups of players just standing around after plays... who cares?) but besides that the game plays fluid. The options are nearly endless with team combinations and playbooks. The theme songs of various teams also help to give that college feel. This is easier to pick up and play right away than madden2004 in my opinion (I do love madden however). I think some of the voice overs are also silly (who cares that "#4" is returning the kick?). And of course the analysis gets boring after you play 10 or so times. I have noticed that sometimes the CPU slows up playing this game. All around it is solid, and lots of fun to play, especially to mix and match some of the wilder ofensive schemes (like say Marshall or Miami (OH)) to other more talented teams. Try playing as Miami FL using other offenses... endless variation. For hardcore gamers there is the Dynasty mode to start a school from scratch. To me it detracts a bit from the college atmosphere compared to playing with your fave schools. It is still a solid option for those who want a more involved game playing experience. The controls use the typical buttons you would expect in an EA football game.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST GAME EVER! I am not kidding., July 19, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: NCAA Football 2004 (Video Game)
This is the game I have been waiting for ever since the days of those classic football game on the SNES and Genesis (Super Play Action Football, John Madden Football.) It really is the perfect gaming experience for anyone who enjoys college football.
Even if you're not a fan of the sport, there are just so many options, teams, rivalries, and fight songs packed in here that makes this game at least deserve a rental from everyone. EA SPORTS really went all out to create the ultimate college sports experience. It's just that awesome! Also, the multiplayer games are some of the best memories I have while playing video games. Do yourself a favor and give this a try. And if you like football video games at all, then go out there and immediately add this one to your collection. Go BYU!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars best ncaa football game ever made, January 30, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: NCAA Football 2004 (Video Game)
this was the first ncaa football game i ever bought and had to say it was even better than a 2007 a nfl game. i mean you can win the heisman play as your favorite team in dynasty mode and have an undeafed season. the only bad thing is you'll lose your created player after 4 years in the game. you an also still make another player still. i'm trying to think of something bad about the game but nothing comes to mind. the game doen't come with the names on the jerseys but you can put any name under it that you would like. the recruiting is really fun too. here is a little tip when recruiting, do people close and that want to come to the university you can still try people far away put usually doesn't work unless you go undeafed alot of years. this game is so awesome its hard to explain so buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Graphics, and awesome gameplay., September 7, 2004
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: NCAA Football 2004 (Video Game)
When I popped this game into my gamecube, I was amazed by the graphcis (NCAA Football: 2004 was my first Gamecube game). In fact, the graphics are so awesome, that my grandparents thought it was a real football game (wow). But, graphics arn't everything. This game is incredabally fun, and has dramitically increased my knowlage of football. Even you don't have a memorycard, you can play the majority of this game, making it well worth the price.

4.0 out of 5 stars get ready to play this for hours, June 29, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: NCAA Football 2004 (Video Game)
Man, this game is awesome. I first got it a while after it came out mainly for the lower price, and was bummed out i hadn't got it sooner. It's not like the rosters are different, because they dont have any names, which is one aspect that made this a four out of five. Here are some attributes for the game;
Gameplay- A
Graphics- A+
Features- A
Realism- B
Overall- A
The Gameplay is pretty good, mainly because of the graphics, which lead me too the graphics. I gave it an A+ because of the fine facial and uniform detail. As you might see, the tackles and celebratons are pretty similar to Madden, but that's not a bad thing. I loved the mascot and cheerleader sequences, and the option of some games being telivised and others not. The features are great, becuase of the re-living classic games thing, and all that other stuff. In dynasty mode, you can do alot of stuff, from drafting high schoolers to hanging on as head coach. Trust me, it's late at night right now and i'm tired, so i've forgotten the majority of the things you can do. The realism is a tad fakey, like the constant injury of players and Washington beating #1 ohio state. (that was in the first week of my dynasty)
One thing i relly didnt expect was the overflowing amounats of fight songs, and how good they sound. I swear, i had the notre dame song in my head ALL DAY.
Overall, this game is great, even beyond great, but i do suggest you research your favorite team and name the rosters. when the commentators say it, it just gives you that important feeling. Well i gotta go play, did i mention this game is extremely addictive?
