I have waited quite a while for a really good PSP football game to come out (I skipped Madden '06), and I think this game was worth the wait. I know that they still have not come out with a perfect football simulation, but for a video game, based on the sport of football, this meets all my expectations and then some.

Dynasty mode allows you play this years season and recruit and continue on for up to 10 years. Other games offer instant action. There is even a mascot game (which I will admit I have not tried) which seems to offer some somewhat hokey action...

The chief complaints of mine would be the ball spotting error (which if you haven't read by now EA will replace games suffering from this glitch) where the ball is spotted at the first point of defensive contact, not at the end point of forward progress. Also the safety and corners at times impede the progress of your receiver, which should be pass interference. Still, this later quibble of mine can easily be overcome by only passing to receivers who are a step or two ahead of the coverage. I suppose it is better to have to computer impede your receiver and have an incomplete pass than for them to intercept or batt it down when they are in excellent position to cover your receiver.

And, to counter my complaints, and others like it, you can adjust nearly everything about the way the game is played out on your screen. If you think that you cannot make any rushing yards, and the game is not fairly biased in the rushing department, you can literally adjust your "rushing success." You can adjust things like quarterback accuracy, penalty levels, etc. You can adjust them unfairly just on the player side, or give the same adjustments to the computer and yourself. You can handicap yourself if you decide it is too easy. There are even two difficulty levels if you need more customization.

You can customize the players names on your favorite team, although they are not in there already. Your favorite QB might be in there as QB #7, and if that is fine for you, you have no problem. But, you can customize your roster with the names of your favorite players, and somehow, the commentary will even recognize the names (at least some of the current season names) and call out your favorite players name when they make a big hit or a great run. You can even sub your wide receiver for your quarterback on the roster, if you want to pretend your starting QB got kicked off the team for NCAA violations. You can renumber your players too, if they changed numbers and their new number is available. You can even give random names to everyone else who is unnamed. Players will get names like "Crumpler" and "Bradshaw" which I find kinda funny.

Playbooks are amazing and in depth. I found some plays that look remarkably like actual plays I've seen run in this years games. They have 10 formations for each play set, and each team has their own offensive play sets, and there are five defensive play sets (3-4, 4-3, 3-3-5, mixed, and team specific)with a mix of ten different formations in each (although there are more than ten defensive formations). This an enormous volume of plays to scan through, and you sometimes find yourself, for the sake of time, sticking to one formation, since there are a huge number of plays in each formation.

Taking control of the action is a breeze, and you can have as much control as you desire, or leave a lot to automation. Commentation is amazing to me, and it really boosts the enjoyment. Slow motion enhances big plays, and allow for less need on the playback. You can always get past the replay if you don't want to see the opposing touchdown again and again too.

I love this game, and I even had one of the "bad" glitch disks. I debated on keeping it, since I don't want to quit. But, I hate not getting forward progress, because I like to run, and I hate to have to try a risky fourth down play and come up short. Overall, I love this game and can't quit playing it...it is awesome! Try it out, you wont regret it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware the rushing yardage bug!!!!, July 18, 2006
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: NCAA Football 2007 (Video Game)
Don't get me wrong. The game is a lot of fun. I'm a big fan of college football and the NCAA Football franchise. However, there is a serious bug in the game that I cannot believe was overlooked by EA. In short, the computer subtracts about 5-6 yards from the end of every run.

For instance, I was playing against the computer and faced a 3rd and 2. I ran the ball up the middle and picked up about 8 yards. Or so I thought. Instead of showing a first down, it showed 4th and inches! Huh! And this was not an isolated incident. About every other rush this happened.

I sincerely hope EA fixes this error and replaces all the copies containing this bug (like they did with the Madden 06 bug). If this does not sound like a big issue to you or you never rush the ball anyway, then get the game. With the exception of this bug the game is great. But personally I would definitely not recommend purchasing this game until this bug is fixed. In fact, I wish I didn't buy it.

Finally!!!!!!!! I got my dream game on the go!!!

First off: College football is my favorite sports title of all time! The rivalries, the trophies , etc. All I wanted when I bought my PSP was college football. And finally that day has come. I have been playing it non stop since yesterday at 8:00 A.M. and thankfully I am in love with my PSP again. (Of course there is GTA, Burnout, and Fight Night which are all excellent games I own). Anyways , lets go thru some issues here:

You can only fit so much data on a little UMD and I know they had to cut some corners which is fine. Gameplay is awesome, fun, and a lot like NCAA 03 that I still play on my PS2 (which has my boy Joey on the cover: GO DUCKS!!!!!). The rendering of our stadium (Autzen here in Eugene) is way way way off. Like I said they can only fit so much on this little disk, so I'm sure there are only a few stadiums in here that are the real deal but that's fine. I named all my Duck players (which took a while) and then had the CPU auto name all the other players so they had names and not just numbers. This is a pet peeve of mine so I had too have all the correct names for my Oregon Ducks so if felt more fun and authentic.

The controls took about an hour to get used to but I feel like a pro already. The "jump the snap" thing is cool and comes in handy if you time it right. And the graphics and replays are all excellent for the PSP. No complaints here. It's PS2 quality and that's what I look for with PSP games. So far this game is everything I wanted in a college football game on the go for the PSP.

***** THE RUSHING GLITCH ****************

Everybody is talking about the glitch when you rush. So far my copy DOES NOT HAVE THAT PROBLEM!! I played a whole game just rushing and I watched really close to the yards and it was accurate everytime!! I hope I bought a good copy!!! Talk about luck I guess. I will keep an eye on it though because there are just way to many complaints about this problem and I would think every copy would have it. I will revise this review if it comes up. I PRAY EA FIXES THIS PROBLEM because this is a really excellent game.

PROS:

1. college football on the go

2. PS2 quality

CONS:

1. THE RUSHING GLITCH !

2. Autzen Stadium isn't really IN THE GAME

3. Our new Oregon Uniforms for this season (the all black, all white and all yellow) isn't IN THE GAME

4. After killing Arizona 49 - 17 At the end of the game it showed Arizona celebrating like they won.

5. The Juke function isn't all it's cracked up to be.

EA's new slogan: IF IT'S IN THE GAME, IF WE CAN, OR WE DON'T GET TO LAZY,AND RUSH THE TITLE OUT WITHOUT TESTING IT FOR BUGS, THEN IT MIGHT BE IN THE GAME

************J VILLA SAID:- inability to kick/punt the ball because the snap button won't function during the kicking game

THAT'S BECAUSE YOU USE THE ANALOG STICK TO KICK!!

************************ REVISED 7/20/06 *********************

The rushing glitch is alive and well in my game. The computer was at 3rd and 1. They rushed for about 6 yards (dangit) and now it's 4th and 2 for the CPU!!! EA better have this fixed ASAP!!!!!!

Is it just me or has EA become a worthless tired company. They have so much money that they can buy the NFL franchise rights but they can't pay a computer/video game nerd to sit in the basement and test these games!!!!!!! This game is REALLY REALLY good but this glitch is HUGE!!!!!!!!!!! I mean , if the Ducks uniforms were pink and purple, that's a cosmetic glitch, but when it involves the gameplay and pretty much the whole thing the game of football is built on (the running game) then that's way way unacceptable!!!

EA is on my YOU KNOW WHAT LIST now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anybody else with me on this?

***********UPDATE 10/17/06********************************

Sent my copy back to EA and within 6 days I had my new copy back!! It's AWESOME!!! The rushing glitch is fixed, and I also noticed another glitch is fixed. On my old copy when you win a game at the end you see the losing team celebrating like they won. That is now fixed also. The losing team actually looks like the Oklahoma Sooners, pOUting and shaking there heads at the end of the game because they lost! Good job EA and thanks for the $15.00 coupon towards another EA title, thats awesome!

1.0 out of 5 stars What the $%#$?, July 19, 2006
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: NCAA Football 2007 (Video Game)
I would love to say that this is killer game especially with reggie on the cover, but there are just too many problems that it isn't even worth playing. So far I have experienced

- the "rushing glitch" where you run for 8 - 10 yards and the computer rewards you with 2nd and 8.

- an erratic menu where it is difficult to select plays because the highlighted item is jumping around.

- inability to kick/punt the ball because the snap button won't function during the kicking game.

While I remember tearing up Madden 96 with no punts or kicks, and few rushing attempts, the AI is much better now and doesn't allow for such aggressive play. (Damn the dolphins were so good back then).

Regrettably, you will soon see me in the return line of a local Target.

Is anyone else experiencing these same problems listed above?

1.0 out of 5 stars EA fumbles again!, July 19, 2006
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: NCAA Football 2007 (Video Game)
First EA releases Madden for the PSP with game killing bugs that makes it almost unplayable, and now they have released NCAA football for the PSP with a game killing bug. Does EA not have a quality control team? Where are the testers? How can you release a football game that does not give you the correct yardage for a run attempt. You run for a 7 yard TD on first down, and then the computer says you lost a yard and it is 2nd and 8 yards to go. This happens all the time making running the ball a complete act of futility. The rest of the game is pretty good, so it is an absolute shame that the running game is broken. To EA's credit, they did release an updated version of Madden that eliminated the glitches in the original release. Hopefully, they will do the same for NCAA 07. So I must ask this question. Why should anyone ever buy an EA football game when it is released? I certainly will not make that mistake again. So avoid this game completely, unless you just like to pass the ball. Shame on you EA. Please do the right thing and release an updated version of this game without the glitches. PSP owners deserve a bugfree NCAA football game.

4.0 out of 5 stars not a bad football fix, December 20, 2006
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: NCAA Football 2007 (Video Game)
The only reason I didn't give this game a 5-star rating is due to the ball spotting issue where after a running play the game spots the ball without keeping your forward progress in mind. The ball gets spotted about 4 yards shy of where your player goes down with the ball. Other than that this is a very solid college football game and it's easy to play. Dynasty mode is a blast and I play this game all the time when I'm on trips.

First of all, I would like to state that this game is extremely fun and that it would be one of the best games of the year if it wasn't for that DAMN RUSHING GLITCH!!! I'm on the seminoles 4yd line. I run HB Counter, up the middle for a TD. Or....I thought it was. NO! It freakin 4th and 6!!! I LOST 2 YARDS!!! Hold on a sec...lets name the GOOD things about it. First of all, the graphics are very good. The sound is the best quality you can have for a game like this. The "jump the snap" and third preson view (right behind the defensive players head) on field goals are the SHIZNIT (blocked three already!!!). The BAD things. Well, some of the facemasks look like there from the 70's which might bother some. The Canes alternate jersey's aren't very accurate (and either are the stadiums). AND in case some people were wondering....it dosn't come with "Race For The Heisman" mode (which made me a little depressed). And of course the rushing glitch. And for Jhonnysd5 dynasty mode glitch, I think thats just his game because I've played three seasons with the Canes already.

5.0 out of 5 stars Big time college football wherever you go!, August 31, 2006
By
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: NCAA Football 2007 (Video Game)
After reading these other reviews, i'm really surprised at the negative feedback its getting! I wonder if we're all playing the same game??? I'm a big football fan and couldn't wait for this to hit the shelves to i could take my team to the championship and it's been nothing but a good time playing this game!

The graphics and sound are truly top notch for the psp platform. Smooth screen movement, great player animations, and finding your open reciever is challanging. EA went all out on their research and depending on where you're playing, the crowd noise can be a real factor! As you play the game your team can build or loose momentum with actually affects the way your team plays. If you can break out some early scores, it can make for a tough time on the other team to climb back into the game. The play selection is wide open with some deep playbooks and making some of them work is a great challange. The big hits are great with the analog stick and the sound is fantastic. The stadiums look great and have all of the whistles and bells that make college football so great, right down to the mascots.

The off the field play is just as much fun. If you play a dynasty then you're in control of a team for 10 seasons. The entire recruting process is a great feature! Depending on how your team finishes, you can make yourself more attractive to the new recruits. You set your budget and based on your budget you're given so many points to disperse amongst how you recruit players. You can choose to recruit locally which costs less points or go to the other side of the country which costs more. Recurits are based on caliber and interest so it's easier to go after the players you need to fill the holes. You can even scout individual recruits for a few points and see how well they're disciplined and what kind of potential they have. You can also try to convince uninterested players in commiting to you which is tricky. Winning the big games gets other recruits interested in your program. You can even pick up to 3 players to recruit during the season and invite them for visits and to watch a game. The game throws a curve at you with players commiting offenses or breaking team rules and you have to decide what action to take. The recruting feature is wide open and makes the game great!

If you're looking for the big challange, you can import a dvision 1-AA team into a conference and try to build them up in 10 seasons. It's tough, trust me! Think you can get Yale to the national championship???

In regards to the slow motion comments, the game features a "matrix" style of gameplay during the big plays. The game will go into slow mo here and there and zoom in on the players. It speeds back up quickly and allows you to break out the big play or miss it. It makes for another great challange. I haven't found this to hinder the game at all. The game even has an awards ceremony with the heisman at the forefront. You can check stats for just about anything during each season. Sometimes, a player might decide to leave before graduation and you have to try to convice him to stay one more season. You just never know how each year will affect next season.

all in all, i'd say EA has a real winner on their hands! Don't believe the negative reviews. If you love college football, you'll really love this game!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Very Good PSP sports game, August 9, 2006

As an avid NCAA fan, I love this game. I have not experienced any of the glitches mentioned in the other reviews, but I did experience them in Madden 06, so maybe it is the actual disc you get. The gameplay is much smoother than Madden 06 and I love the zoom in on critical plays/big hits, ...

Don't expect it to be as good as PS2, the PSP is a much smaller system - so you don't get to create a school or create players. You still play rivalry and dynasty mode, which is great. I play mine all the time and have never had a problem. Plus I downloaded my UF roster and plugged the data into my PSP so I get all the names, ... on the jersey and in the commentary. All in all, for a handheld it is a topnotch game. If they found a way to put the other features in it, and if the option were a little easier to execute I would have given it 5 stars.

3.0 out of 5 stars Replacing flawed copies., August 30, 2006
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: NCAA Football 2007 (Video Game)
Publisher Electronic Arts has initiated a program designated to replace all flawed copies of the PSP's recently released title NCAA Football 2007. The large scale effort is following widespread reports of a critical "ball spotting" bug. NCAA is the full contact American football franchise for Sony's handheld, introducing classic rivalries, dynasty mode, and wi-fi connectivity in multiplayer, paired up with ESPN sports ticker and unique mini-games.

Reportedly NCAA Football 2007 players came across an inconsistency that EA Sports identified calls a "ball marking error". When this occurs, the ball is returned to the point of the initial tackle contact following on-field runs, incorrect since the ball should be seen where the player falls and not where he's initially tackled. To make up for this shortcoming, according to an official statement, the publisher is offering replacement UMD discs for all customers experiencing the issue. Users may turn in the flawed unit to EA's Redwood City warranty center. Furthermore EA is keeping good on its promise and offers customers a $15 discount coupon off their next purchase, along with free shipping on the order.
