"NCIS: Los Angeles" is a spin-off of the popular TV drama series "NCIS", short for Naval Criminal Investigative Service. NCIS: LA, first pitched in a cross-over episode on NCIS, features the work of an undercover team from the Office of Special Projects, located in a confiscated villa in Los Angeles. Its mission is to deal with criminals, terrorists and spies who...

3.0 out of 5 stars It's cool, it's hip, and it's, uh, mediocre
The structure of the NCIS LA team is hampered by the fact that there is no strong central authority figure, like Gibbs is in the D.C. NCIS office. It all looks like a bunch of twenty-somethings running around trying to be cool, and that, coupled with some fairly boring, second-rate script writing makes for a mediocre series. LL Cool J is the most interesting character in...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Different Town, A Different Team..., August 12, 2010
"NCIS: Los Angeles" is a spin-off of the popular TV drama series "NCIS", short for Naval Criminal Investigative Service. NCIS: LA, first pitched in a cross-over episode on NCIS, features the work of an undercover team from the Office of Special Projects, located in a confiscated villa in Los Angeles. Its mission is to deal with criminals, terrorists and spies who threaten national security.

"NCIS: Los Angeles", a younger, hipper version of the original, took a little while to find its footing. Its early selling point was the wonderful buddy team chemistry of special agents G. Callen and Sam Hanna, played with zest by Chris O'Donnell and LL Cool J. Their verbal sparring and collaboration is a highlight of the show.

The team roster took awhile to settle. The increasing prominence given Linda Hunt as eccentric Operations Manager Hetty Lange provided balance and wry humor. Daniela Ruah as field agent Kensi Blye quickly established her street credentials; the show was challenged to find her a suitable partner. That partner is likely to be LA undercover cop Marty Deeks, who did a guest stint and will return for Season Two. Barrett Foa as computer geek Eric Beal and Peter Cambor as psychologist Nate Getz provided superb backup.

The first season episodes pitted the team against terrorists, gun smugglers, spies and assorted bad guys, while managing to combine action, humor, and a little soul-searching. Along the way, one agent was kidnapped and killed and others were placed at risk, while viewers were introduced to the mystery of G. Callen's origins. Rocky Carroll as NCIS Director Vance and Pauley Perrette as forensic investigator Abby Scuto did nice crossovers from NCIS.

"NCIS: Los Angeles - The First Season" is highly recommended to fans of NCIS who might be looking for a different take in a different town.

Very good TV serie. If not, I wouldn't have bought it.

I give only here some precisions for languages useful for foreign customers like me.

Audio : English and French for all episodes.

Subtitles : English, Spanish and Portuguese.

French subtitles for episodes 1 and 2 (spin offs from NCIS East coast), and for all the extras (discs 1 and 6).

Remaining of episodes are not French subtitled, but you can listen them in French like mentionned above.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blu Ray NCIS LA, November 13, 2011

I purchased this for my husband. He is the big tv watcher. I have heard glowing reviews. Most of the NCIS series are not out on Blu Ray. He got a nice birthday surprise. I watched for a few minutes and have to agree - pretty awesome.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Series, October 23, 2011
I love NCIS and the LA spin off is great. Different but works really well. Fantastic picture quality and great story lines. I personally love Hetty as a character. Good character story lines and lots of action in every episode.

5.0 out of 5 stars NCIS LA, September 23, 2011

You shouldn't watch this show and compare it to NCIS. It's a whole set of different people and their work is different to NCIS. It has action, humour and mystery (The characters backgrounds are reveiled bit by bit). Highly recommended!!

NCIS Los Angeles hit the ground running. Thanks to its introduction on NCIS, the characters already felt like people we knew and their rythmn together was already established. The addition of Hattie to the staff was a stroke of genius!

I am still amazed how Chris O'Donell still looks hot with his age and 5 kids later. LL Cool J is still suave and smooth. I love this show much much better than the original. It's very entertaining and I never was once bored watching an episode. So hope more seasons to come.

I enjoyed the entire first season. The stories were very good and getting to know each character was great; as well as watching the chemistry that developed between characters.

This set has really good quality both audio and video.
The extra features are entertaining and informative.
The show is first rate and it really hits the ground running. It doesn't take long to develop and the characters are interesting and well defined. If you haven't seen the show you'll love it by the third episode and if you have seen it you'll definitely want to add this set to you DVD library.
