I have the Saunders NCLEX RN comprehensive review and was looking for a different publisher. Saunders does not seem to challenge me so thought I purchase a different publisher. The Kaplan book goes into depth about what to expect on exam, how to prepare, and strategies on answering the correct answer on test questions. The book is slender with a few questions in several categories. This was disappointing. I thought I would find tons of questions and categories in the CD, but the CD ONLY HAS 180 practice questions! The book says that there are 100's of free practice questions online, but this led into the Kaplan store. I could not find any free practice questions. The only way to pass state boards is to practice answering questions from different categories, but this book DID NOT offer this. I feel completely ripped off.

This book has taught me so much! There are two ways to study for the NCLEX - do question after question and hope you'll learn something from them, essentially cramming every disease known to man in your brain. Or, read about how the questions are formed and what the writers of the exam are looking for - get to know the test maker so you can figure out what they choose is the best answer, even if you don't know the disease!

This book has allowed me to answer questions correctly about diseases or techniques I've never even heard of. Lets face it, the NCLEX is about passing the exam, not teaching you about how to be a nurse; that is what your orientation is for when you get a job. You have the basic knowledge if you've made it through a program, now figure out the questions and you're good to go!

As a bonus, I took the exam on the disc first. Then I read the entire book and took the exam in the back, and scored over 10% higher! These questions are definitely NCLEX style and difficulty. The strategies given are awesome and will teach you how to pass! The only thing that would make it better are drug flash cards.

Everything in this book is what they teach you in the live class for $500. If you can teach yourself, buy the book. If not, do the Kaplan class.

I should probably hold off on this review as I am taking the NCLEX in less than 4 days but I feel that this has been an awesome guide to help prep for the test. I received this book the night before I took my predictor test (my university makes us take a predictor in order to predict their pass rates) and in only reading the first 60 pages (all I could read before I went to bed) I was amazed at how the strategies came into play. The strategies allowed me to discern what the question was really asking me before I chose an answer. My predictor indicated that I had a 99% chance of passing NCLEX the first time I take the test (crossing my fingers and hoping that that is true!!!!!) I would highly recommend this book. I think this has been one of the best resources to study as I have been doing my final cram sessions. This book hasn't taught me any new nursing content but it has helped me to break the questions down and implement a strategy to apply the knowledge that I already have. LOVE IT!!!!

UPDATE: I PASSED!!!!!!!

Hello, I like the book and it is helpful but I bought this book because it was the 2012-2013 version. A friend gave me the 2011-2012 version and they are identical all the way to the cd included. I was looking forward to doing some more questions on the new cd from the newer book to practice for the boards but is the same cd. Now, I cannot order the next edition as maybe it is the 2011 version repeated again. I just wasted $39.00 . I got 2 identical books with different titles

While I was waiting for this book to arrive, I checked out the 2011 edition from the library. When my book arrived, I compared them and I have yet to find a single word that is different other than an ad for Kaplan School of Nursing in the older one. Don't waste your money on a newer editon since the publishers didn't bother to change anything. The text itself is very informative and offers excellent strategies for answering questions correctly and solid rationales. If you are preparing for the NCLEX, would definitely recommend this book, just don't bother getting the latest edition...
