5.0 out of 5 stars The best tutor ever
This CD was all I used and nothing more. I had all I needed and did about 100 questions a day for a month. Passed the first time and did not study the night before my RN boards. Get this CD.

This review is from: NCLEX® Review 4000: Study Software for NCLEX-RN® (Individual Version) (CD-ROM)
Pros:
Lots of practice questions with rationales.
Computerized test, similar to the NCLEX.
Runs fine on Windows XP Pro.

Cons:
You cannot stop your test, bookmark your place, and resume at a later time.
One reviewer complained of the software asking the same questions over. To prevent this from happening you just have to decide which of the thirty seven sections of the test you want to work on and complete that test section from start from finish. However, some of the sections are very long and others are very short. It took me almost a day just to do the 630 question pharmacology section and read through the rationales of the ones I missed. In order to save my place I had to leave my computer on with the software open. Once you close the program you have to start all over again.

The rationales are helpful. I learn more out of reading them than I do taking the test. Any extra practice is helpful. Personally I'm reading the Saunders NCLEX Review book, doing this NCLEX 4000, and also doing the ATI NCLEX VATI. Below I've included the different sections found on the NCLEX 4000 and how many practice questions each have.

NCLEX 4000 Nursing Topics:
Fundamentals of Nursing (653 questions total)
Basic Physical Care (230 questions)
Basic Phychosocial Needs (60 questions)
Medication and IV Admin. (170 questions)
Basic Physical Assessment (119 questions)
Nursing Process (74 questions)

Pediatric Nursing (637 total)
Infant (149 questions)
Toddler (136 questions)
Preschooler (151 questions)
School-Age (126 questions)
Adolescent (75 questions)

Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing
Foundations of Psychiatric Nursing (110 questions)
Anxiety Disorders (77 questions)
Mood, Adjustment and Dementia Disorders (146 questions)
Psychotic Disorders (121 questions)
Substance Abuse, Eating Disorders, Impulse Control Disorders (109 questions)

Maternal-Neonatal Nursing
Antepartum Period (212 questions)
Intrapartum Period (144 questions)
Postpartum Period (137 questions)
The Neonate (134 questions)

Medical-Surgical Nursing (1608 total)
Cardiovascular Disorders (223 questions)
Oncologic Disorders (146 questions)
Gastrointestinal Disorders (184 questions)
Integumentary Disorders (90 questions)
Immune and Hematologic Disorders (114 questions)
Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders (206 questions)
Musculoskeletal Disorders (124 questions)
Neurosensory Disorders (203 questions)
Respiratory Disorders (203 questions)
Genitourinary Disorders (115 questions)

NCLEX 4000 Clients Needs Categories:
Safe, Effective Care Environment (920 total questions)
Management of Care (556 questions)
Safety and Infection Control 364

Health Promotion and Maintenance (524 total)

Phychosocial Integrity (479 total)

Physiological Intergity (2165 total)
Basic Care and Comfort (321 questions)
Pharmacological and Parenteral Therapies (630 questions)
Reduction of Risk Potential (610 questions)
Physiological Adaptation (604 questions)

I would also like to leave my comments on the ATI for those interested. The ATI is OK, but ATI really needs to work on giving better rationales on their assessments, indexing their books better (aka "modules"), and also combining all of their modules onto one large searchable file for the VATI website. NCLEX 4000 provides clear and informative rationales, ATI doesn't. If I had to do it all over again, I'd lean towards the Saunders NCLEX-RN Review book + Kaplan NCLEX-RN review + NCLEX 4000 CD Rom instead of using ATI and VATI.

This NCLEX review is highly recommended in my program. The staff members encourage use of it throughout the program to develop critcal thinking skills. I have not used it extensively yet but I did try it out. To begin with it's loaded with useful content, rationales are provided for each question. Very easy to install and use, I can access it instantly on my pc desktop without the disk. Definitely worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent NCLEX review, September 2, 2008
This review is from: NCLEX® Review 4000: Study Software for NCLEX-RN® (Individual Version) (CD-ROM)
This disk is an excellent review for the NCLEX. Everyone that's taken the NCLEX before me recommended NCLEX 3500 but I feel that this disk is better. The rationales, study mode, and test mode are all helpful. I recommend this to everyone preparing to take the NCLEX.

There were no specifics on installation given in the description so, I took a chance that this would work with my Mac. When the package was received it only had application installation for WINDOWS! I tried to call Lippincott (could not get an answer) and then emailed them. They sent me back a bucket response that said nothing.

I called Amazon and because this Mac incombatability was not listed in the descritption they sent me a prepaid return sticker and did not charge a restocking fee.

Amazon was great but, the product was unusable with a MAC and Lippincott customer service was non existant. If I could give this product a zero I would. A frustrating waste of time for what looks like it would have been a great product....

4.0 out of 5 stars Good product with some major flaws out of the box, August 8, 2010

Very good product for studying for NCLEX test......once you get it working. It does not work out the box on Vista or Windows 7 64-bit operating systems. You have to contact the publisher for a patch for it to work on these systems. (or find it by Googleing NCLEX 4000 patch). Publisher's web page is pretty much useless on support.

5.0 out of 5 stars great tool for nursing school student, July 10, 2009

This review is from: NCLEX® Review 4000: Study Software for NCLEX-RN® (Individual Version) (CD-ROM)
Purchased this program to prepare me for the HESI. So impressed with the program, bought a 2nd one to give as a gift to a friend who is also attending nursing school.
You can set it in test or study mode, decide how many questions, 50, 75 or 100, etc., You can concentrate on one area or all med/surg, physch, basic care, and more.
Some of the questions are easy and some are not. It is a great learning tool because of its rationale and covering alot of area.
Recommend it highly as a study tool.

2.0 out of 5 stars repeats questions TOO OFTEN!, February 21, 2009
This review is from: NCLEX® Review 4000: Study Software for NCLEX-RN® (Individual Version) (CD-ROM)
the software was good for the first two tests i took. it generates a random 75 question test out of what they claim to be a "4000 question bank"....i highly doubt this. i didn't think anything of the repeated questions at first on the 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc times that i took the test, thinking it was asking ones i had previously missed to help me review. it began asking me ones that i KNEW i had gotten right before, and one time over 2 days i took the random test 3 times and kept a count....there were at least 3 of the same questions on every one of those tests, as well as countless others i had already seen before. with a "4000" question bank, things shouldn't be repeated this often, and i ended up getting them right because i had memorized the question itself- not the pathophysiology behind the disease in question. definitely NOT helpful, as we can't know exact questions from nclex until we actually take it! i highly highly highly recommend lippincott's content review for nclex instead by diane billings

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best NCLEX review software, December 22, 2008

This review is from: NCLEX® Review 4000: Study Software for NCLEX-RN® (Individual Version) (CD-ROM)
I should know - I have at least 6 books.

What I love most is that it is a cd. Put it in and you can start of with a 75 question test to determine ur skills and what you need improvement on. Go into study mode, pick any topics you need to review, and answer as many questions you want! you set the tests up. You can choose to focus on client care or generalized questions. Some alternative questions are thrown in there as well. It is great for studying for med-surg classes as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Survive nursing school and the boards., September 5, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: NCLEX® Review 4000: Study Software for NCLEX-RN® (Individual Version) (CD-ROM)
This is an outstanding tool to help nursing students study for their exams as well as prepare for the NCLEX board exam. The greatest feature is that you can create your own exams by selecting among different content area. You can take an exam in study mode, which allows you to see the correct answer with rational. You also can take an exam in test mode, which does not tell you the rational or correct answer until after you complete the exam. Once you complete the exam, your grade will be a certain percentage. The score will also provide content areas that you excelled in or need to improve upon. My nursing instructors have said that this is a great predictor of students pass rate of the NCLEX. Some of the content areas I have not learned yet, so it is hard for me to gage an accurate prediction of my pass rate. I do highly recommend this product. You will not be disappointed. Also for the mac users out there, my classmate was able to install the disc with no problems.
