Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Guild Wars - Platinum contains:

Guild Wars: Game of the Year

Take your first step into Guild Wars, the award-winning fantasy online roleplaying game enjoyed by millions of players. Across Tyria, the human kingdoms are under attack by the vicious Charr. As a young hero caught between the powerful will of King Adelbern and the rebellious Prince Rurik, you are called upon to defend humanity. Will you become an instrument of the ancient prophecy or be crushed beneath it? Rally your strength and the power of your guild to establish your legend.

Guild Wars: Eye of the North

In the face of Tyria’s greatest challenges, heroes have returned to thwart the forces of darkness. Abaddon has fallen, Shiro has been unmasked, and the Titans were driven back to the demon realms. Now great earthquakes wrack the lands, opening huge underground complexes beneath the earth. Boiling up from that darkness, a threat spreads that may spell the end of the Age of Man . . .

Guild Wars: Eye of the North is the first true expansion for Guild Wars and calls players back to the continent of Tyria, the home of the original Prophecies campaign. Players must take their existing characters and stand side-by-side with both friends and enemies from the past, recruit new allies and heroes, and delve deep into perilous dungeons to face an ancient evil. Win or lose, the players will set the stage for Guild Wars 2.

  • Sweeping Storyline – Return to the battle-scarred continent of Tyria. Reunite with old friends, discover new allies, wreak vengeance on old foes, and face-off against a menace so great it threatens the existence of all the peoples of Tyria.
  • Dungeons – Explore a sprawling underground complex of caverns that spans an entire continent. 18 multi-level dungeons filled with traps, puzzles, and secret passages.
  • Immortalize your legend – Your achievements, trophies, and titles from Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall, and Eye of the North will not be forgotten. Your Hall of Monuments will preserve them until your descendants can claim them in Guild Wars 2.
  • 10 New Heroes – Enlist the aid of new races, including the viking-like Norn, the magical Asura, and even a few surprises.
  • 150 New Skills – Play with skills unlike anything seen in Guild Wars before, like the Light of Deldrimor, which can simultaneously detect hidden objects and smite evil foes.
  • 40 New Armor Sets – A combination of powerful new sets and rare standalone pieces

5.0 out of 5 stars MMORPG NOT CLOSED October 24, 2012
I don't know what others are talking about but the site is still active. I've been playing for some time and my gf has been playing along as well. Sure there isn't as much traffic as people are playing GW2 but the site is still very active with 100s of people playing and events for the holidays are still going on. 10/24/12

I bought this looking for a fun game, that would run well on modest hardware and fit a modest budget. This does that well and is a good fit for that criteria. Game play is good, though a little dated. You can tell that it was made several years ago, but it was a good game then, and is still fun to play. There aren't a lot of people on server that I could see, but you only need a few to make things work and there's certainly enough for that. I gave the game 4 stars on it's own merits.

However, BE AWARE that what you are buying is not what's listed on this site for the Platinum Edition. The listing when I purchased it said that it included the GW:Game of the Year and the expansion, Eye of the North. It only includes the original game, not Nightfall or Factions that come with the actual Game of the Year Edition, and EotN. So if you want the other two, you're better off buying the real GotY ed and getting the expansion separately. Once I realized what I actually had with my key installed, I checked NCsoft's site and sure enough that's what's supposed to come with the Platinum Ed. Nightfall and Factions aren't included, however it certainly is made to seem so in this listing. When I brought this up to Amazon, they very graciously and quickly refunded my purchase, which will probably end up going towards GW2...look for the review soon!

It's fine for what you get, but realize what you're really getting!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent game! January 5, 2013

Amazing RPG, well worth the buy. The entire game you are required to have teammates, you can't go alone, adding a must to cooperation with your fellow players or henchmen you hire in the towns. Easy expansion, you're constantly upgrading. You feel like a badass. The PvP is easy to access and get the hang of. Mixing two professions is different from other games. The crafting could use a little bit of an up, and so could the level cap. Overall, a great game worth buying and playing through. I mean, there are no subscription fees so there's nothing to lose over $20.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still Playing December 2, 2012
Not sure what all the noise is about Guild Wars closing. I mean HoM is connecting the 2 games and i have been logging into both my accounts. Guild Wars doesn't have as many people as it did but that's cause a lot jumped over to Guild Wars 2 and are working towards getting as much done as we did when Guild Wars came out. Guild Wars will shut down in the future but that's what happens they released a new part of the story of the great MMO Guild Wars now we move forward and enjoy the new chapters they have created for us to play through and enjoy. I am picking this copy up for a friend who never played Guild Wars and also so that I can finish the rest of my HoM. Enjoy all both games are amazing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Making a comeback! December 5, 2014
The entire Guild Wars 1 series is amazing and still going to this day. After taking a break from it for about a year and playing Guild Wars 2, I am enjoying this game all over again like I did when it first came out. There is just so much to enjoy about it.
Even once you hit max level, there are elite skills to be capped, gear to strive for, weapons to locate and heroes to build. People are starting to come back to this game after being somewhat disappointed or bored with GW2. Kamadan, Great Temple of Balthazaar often has plenty of players in it as well as Jade Quarry. I hope this game makes a comeback and more content is added due to people slowly transitioning back to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great game April 1, 2013

I'm not a huge gamer, but my husband (and two of his friends that he plays with) wanted to get me into Guild Wars so we could have a party of 4 to play together. I watched him play for a little while and decided I'd give it a try. It's a LOT of fun, especially as a co-op! I'd definitely recommend this to anyone, gamer or non-gamer.

5.0 out of 5 stars GW is still fun after GW2 came out! October 28, 2014

i bought this because i wanted to add another character to my account. i already had eye of the north and factions, so i had six characters already. i guess you cannot have more than six, but it opens up some extras. the game is still fun, the camps and villages are kinda bare since GW2 came out, but the game is still a lot of fun!

4.0 out of 5 stars Guild Wars February 4, 2014

Despite the age, this game is a prime example of a classic MMO with a few unique tweaks. Being able to mix classes together adds a more interesting game play experience. Although it can be confusing at first, it's rather fun once you get an idea of what you're doing.
