5.0 out of 5 stars Not a disappointment
I thought this was exactly as it was described. It easily makes sliders (LITTLE hamburgers). I found it to be easy and fun to use and easy to clean. It does take longer than 2 minutes to finish cooking on an electric coil stove (about 5 - 6 min.) If you check it and it's not done, just replace the top and wait another minute or two. There is no need to try to flip...

3.0 out of 5 stars Worked fine and cleaned up fine
I just used this for the first time and it worked fine. Others are saying it's too small, don't they know what a slider is? It's a small burger. Clean up was fine. I would recommend this to anyone who knows what a slider actually is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not a disappointment, January 1, 2009

I thought this was exactly as it was described. It easily makes sliders (LITTLE hamburgers). I found it to be easy and fun to use and easy to clean. It does take longer than 2 minutes to finish cooking on an electric coil stove (about 5 - 6 min.) If you check it and it's not done, just replace the top and wait another minute or two. There is no need to try to flip them. I followed the included instructions for cleaning and had no problems, and found it unexpectedly easy. The sliders are cooked (not flame-broiled) and taste accordingly. My kids love them because they have no hard dry edges. I was pleased with the size of the burgers (fits great on half a hot dog bun) and with the size of the pan (easy to store). I'm happy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest thing ever, January 7, 2009
This review is from: NE VR 29160 BIG CITY SLIDERS
This product is one of the best inventions of our time. Seriously. In less than ten minutes, it creates five mini-burgers with which you can experiment with different toppings. The burgers are juicy and cooked evenly throughout, unlike, say, the George Foreman Grill, which dries out burgers and gives them a weird, thin crispiness on the outside.

The only downside of this product is that the measuring spoon it comes with is really too small. If you just go by the spoon, you'll end up with the smallest burgers in the history of the planet. Most of the complaints on here suggest they are too small, but I think those people need to adopt a little common sense: if the burgers are too small, add more ground beef. It isn't rocket science. If you fill the little compartments with meat, you will end up with well-sized sliders (trust me -- go to the grocery store and buy slider rolls, they come in 12-packs. The burgers will come out the exact size of the rolls if you fill the compartments instead of using the spoon).

I have made sliders three times in the last week and, barring a catastrophic, red meat-enduced heart attack that takes my life or renders me hospitalized for an extended period, I'll probably make sliders again at some point this week. This product lights up my life and it's a shame that I cannot rate it higher than five little yellow stars.

I read all the reviews here and thought for 19.99 I'd give it a shot. My son and I fired it up last night and we LOVE it. It's the coolest kitchen gadget I have. In only 5 minutes of cooking (clearly not 2, it's meat not microwave popcorn) we had five little burgers (and they are mini burgers, like mini marshmallows, in other words small like the name says, people). What we loved was the different toppings we could use because every burger was different and the neat sort of five bite serving of each burger. As for the non stickiness of the pan, well it's a simple thing to simply spray some cooking spray. It wasn't hard to clean.

We're using it again tonight. I totally recommend this because it's fun and quick for weeknight meals.

4.0 out of 5 stars A little common sense is in order here..., April 20, 2009
This review is from: NE VR 29160 BIG CITY SLIDERS
First off, to address the complaints of the silver flakes coming off the Big City Slider (addressed BCS herein), this happens when you have impatient people meeting a cost-prohibitive device. They're overheating the darn thing and then complaining when it comes apart. These burgers are supposed to be cooked on medium-low, not "Satan spawn of hell hot". It takes probably six to eight minutes to make a decently cooked burger but it's the only way to make them SAFELY. Anyone complaining about this I'm guessing has no cooking experience with cheap teflon or else is too utterly impatient for a product such as this.

Now, the food it makes when made properly is delicious. Smaller burgers just right for potato rolls, I find it hard to make less than 60-75 for the big game, social gatherings, etc., and everyone loves them. There have been absolutely no complaints about bad food or silver flakes, which is just a testament to being able to read and follow directions on how to use the BCS. Ground chuck is the best meat, but if you're into low-fat you can also substitute ground turkey for a healthier but still equally delicious recipe. I'm a few hundred burgers into using the BCS and still going strong.

The only reason I gave BCS four stars is that it does everything as advertised except for cleanup. I'm a bit more tender with it, preferring to let it soak for a bit and being gentle about cleaning off the gunk on the upper, so it takes a little longer but not a major concern.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great burgers but cleaning is not a breeze, April 10, 2009
This review is from: NE VR 29160 BIG CITY SLIDERS
I have used the BigCity Slider station twice now, each time with delicous results. The scoop measures the exact amount of meat so that you can actually cook the burgers quickly and thoroughly. I did generously spray with Pam each time before using, and I have not had a problem with the Teflon coating coming off. Clean up is a little harder than what the commercial indicates, but letting the pan soak for just a little while really helps. It's not any harder to clean up than a regular griddle. This little grill is great and will be used many more times.

5.0 out of 5 stars They came out great, January 15, 2009
This review is from: NE VR 29160 BIG CITY SLIDERS
I saw this on tv and just had to get it. It came yesterday and we just had to try it out. Of course my husband the cook had to take over. He put the meat in a bowl and seasoned it just right and then scooped up little balls and filled in the circles. It did take about 4-5 minutes eash time and he had to flip them halfway through. Then came out great! no sticking or anything. They are a bit smaller than a regular slider but they taste just as good. My 3yo loved them. Then came time for clean up. I read alot of bad reviews about it not cleaning up. I put the pan in the sink and put water in the 5 circles and dropped the top on, I let it sit awhile and then took hot water and my sponge and everything cleaned up just fine. There is a few spots that gave me a hard time but I got them out and looks just like new. I love this product and can't wait to try turkey sliders next!

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst appliance EVER, March 2, 2010

This review is from: NE VR 29160 BIG CITY SLIDERS
We registered for this item for our wedding and received it as a shower gift. It is a TERRIBLE machine. The first time we used it it worked fine and made good mini burgers with no problem - but the cleanup was horrendous. I'm not sure what the deal with it is, but it is awful to try to clean the top press. The next 2-3 times we used it to make sliders, our entire burger/chicken/turkey patty was covered on the top in some sort of metallic sheen. I am not sure if it is just the paint coming off on it or what but it is AWFUL. I do NOT recommend this product and am concerned about health issues for anyone who ingests the silver residue. This product should be recalled in my opinion.

2.0 out of 5 stars Make your own - it's easier, January 15, 2009
This review is from: NE VR 29160 BIG CITY SLIDERS
We were very disappointed in this product for the following reasons.
1. The burgers are smaller than sliders you would find in any restaurant including White Castle - think silver dollar size.
2. Cleaning it may be easy, but cleaning the stove after all the splatter from it is not fun. The wells at the bottom are not deep enough to hold the drippings and we used a very lean ground beef.
3. It takes much longer than the 2 minutes advertised in their infomercial. If you're trying to make burgers for more than 2 people, it'll take forever.
4. The price + shipping cost is triple what it is worth.

Bottom line: Save your money and fry it on your own pan.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointment - Don't Buy It, December 26, 2008
By
This review is from: NE VR 29160 BIG CITY SLIDERS
I bought this thinking it would be fun for the kids. It is a LOT smaller than it looks on the commercial. It doesn't make hamburgers - as a matter of fact the kids asked me if I had invented Hamburger Nuggets. This would be a great invention if you were looking to make flattened meatballs. The burgers stuck to the top of the pan, making it impossible to check to see if they were done. I burnt myself more than once on the metal parts next to the handle of the lid. It didn't clean up, either. I had to scrub it with a Brillo pad to get it clean. I will be taking it back to the store, so save yourself the trouble and don't buy it.
