Book Description

January 1, 1984 0941995070 978-0941995078 1st
"Although this book was first published in 1984, everything in it is as relevant today as when it was first published. If anything, the NEA has simply moved even further to the left than it was back them. It has simply adopted all of the politically correct trends of the far left. The history behind all of this has not changed. Thus, the NEA's influence in American education as a force of the left is still a fact that parents of children in the public schools must deal with." -- Samuel L. Blumenfeld - Preface to 2011 Edition

IT'S BACK!! NEA Trojan Horse in American Education. The 1984 book. which was the first expose of the National Education Association - the teacher's union, is back after some 10 years being out of print. Everything that was included in the print version is now available as an ebook. Included are: All 284 pages, all footnotes (156), approx. 250 other references, and Index.

Sam points to what has transpired in America following the 2010 elections proves that people need to know what unions like SEIU and the NEA teachers union are up to. You need only look at early 2011 in Wisconsin when those unions literally took over the state Capitol in Madison for weeks.

Sam Blumenfeld in 1984 was the only person who had courage to take on the Teacher's Union. At that time the NEA vehemently denied it was a union. It claimed to be a Professional Association that was only interested in helping the kid. Flash forward to 2011 when the Teacher's Union in Wisconsin, along with other government employee unions brought the state of Wisconsin government to a halt. For weeks they held the entire state government captive.

When Sam Blumenfeld was finishing his 1984 book on the NEA his manuscript was refused by all publishers. Reason: They all believed he and they would be dragged into court firvolously by the NEA Union to prevent him form getting his extensive research in the book out into the public. In otherwords, publishers were being intimidated by the powerful Teacher's Union. Finally he found a brave small group who formed a new publishing company and risked everything to get his blockbuster revelations into print. Fortunately the NEA was more busy at that time dealing with newly elected Ronald Reagan and his administration to bother squashing Sam's publisher. The rest is history: the book sold tens of thousands of copies and was in print for many years. It was, and still is, the seminal book on the professional group which ultimately dropped all pretenses of being devoted only to the kids and their education. As recently as 2009 the NEA's top attorney, Bob Channin [July 9, 2009, NEA Representative Assembly, San Diego] in a speech to his members statied in effect that the interests of the members came ahead of the interest of the kids.

The quote is: "[Why is the NEA effective?] It is not because of creative ideas, it is not because of the merit of our position, it is not because we care about children, it is not because we have a vision of great public schools for every child. NEA and its affiliates are effective advocates because we have power and we have power because there are more than 3.2 million people [members] who are willing to pay us millions of dollars in dues each year because they believe we are the union that can most effectively represent them, the unions that can protect their rights and advance their interests as education employees."*

If you do not know all about this union which is supported by the dues of members who, in turn, are paid by your local property and sales taxes (As well as billions the Federal Government puts into public education) now is the time to learn what you need to know to be an informed voter in elections to come. The NEA is spending millions and millions of dollars to get officialls elected who will do their bidding. So, citizens who pay the bills for education really need to know all the background facts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Socialism December 8, 1999
Format:Paperback
This book was an incredible eye opener for me. I as a public school student knew that my fellow students and I were being indoctrinated into the anti-capitolist, socialist views of educators. I made a comment about socialism in class and I wash shocked to hear what my teacher said "Socialism isn't bad, it's great". The comment confirmed my worst fears and everything said in Blumenfeld's book, socialist are using the public schools to turn America into a socialist nation. Read the book, it will change your view of education forever.

For those wondering I am a sophomore in high school.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most incisive indictment of the Progressive cabal October 19, 1997
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Samuel Blumenfeld indicts the Progressive education cabal by using their very own words to expose their leftist/radical agenda. You will never look at Dewey and his disciples in the National Education Association the same way again. Blumenfeld is a meticulous researcher who blows the cover on the socialist policy-makers who control American public education today. He is to education what Malachi Martin is to the Catholic Church: a brilliant, erudite iconoclast who despises Marxist deception. Alarming, unsettling, provocative, and hard-hitting. Every patriotic American should read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just as true today as it was when it was published November 9, 2005
Format:Paperback
I'm a teacher and I read this book years ago, shortly after it first came out. At that time I was working in a school system that required either joining the NEA or paying almost the exact same amount of money to it and not having a say in it. For two years, I mindlessly paid my dues and was a member. Then, I decided to read the material I had been given by the NEA. It was a 75-page, very fine print 8 1/2 x 11" book(let). I read every word of it and was amazed at some of the thing the NEA was supporting. Then I heard about this book on a radio program and when I read it, I saw that this man was pointing out the very things I had already seen.

The NEA is not a harmless group that merely wants the best for the education of our children. The changes that are happening in education are part of an overall agenda and that agenda is NOT to produce the most intelligent and well-educated children we can.

If you are an educator today, please read this book! Don't give your money mindlessly to this organization. You expect your students to research their facts and you need to do the same yourself. You owe it to yourself and the children you teach. Joining the NEA is NOT the best way to educate our youth!

This author has excellent documentation for what he says. It is well worth your time to read. Even though it was originally published in the 80's, the NEA has only gotten worse. (Did you know the NEA was sued a couple of years ago for misappropriation of funds?)

Once you read this, you'll wonder how intelligent people like teachers have been duped into thinking this is only a pro-education group. (Did you know teachers are now referred to as "agents of change"? After reading this book, you'll know why.)
