Product Description

From the Manufacturer

The NEC America MobilePro 900C gives you immediate access to your most important work no matter where you are, whether it’s e-mail, Web access, word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, or enterprise class custom software.

In addition, MobilePro 900 can synchronize with other computers so your finished work is available where you need it. Picture yourself in the following situations:

  • Before a business trip, you synchronize all your unread e-mail onto your MobilePro 900. In the air, you read and reply to 50 messages, which get sent automatically the next time you connect your MobilePro to your office.
  • You’re visiting an important customer, gathering feedback to discuss with colleagues back in the office. Using Calendar Contacts and Inbox, you schedule a meeting and send it to your colleagues while you are still on the road.
  • You are on the road taking customer orders. Using custom software developed by your company, and any analog phone line (or perhaps a wireless modem), you connect to your company network to check inventory and place the order. The rich software development tools available for the Microsoft operating system make this scenario increasingly common.

Before using MobilePro 900 you’ll only need to install the main and backup batteries and connect the AC adapter to start charging the MobilePro. Then simply turn it and go!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great unit for what it's meant to do, July 2, 2008
This review is from: NEC America MPC900C MobilePro Handheld PC (Office Product)
The MobilePro 900C is a very well-designed older unit that does everything it is supposed to do very well.

The unit itself seems well built, made of sturdy plastic. It feels comfortable in your hands. The keyboard, although a bit smaller than a normal computer keyboard, is large enough that a competent typer should not have a problem adjusting (it took me a few minutes before I was typing at full speed).

The included programs do the job: you have a word processor (simple, but useful); a spreadsheet editor (again, simple but good for viewing spreadsheets on the go); and a PowerPoint viewer (a bit slow in loading, but not when displaying presentations).
The PIM utilities are OK - not as good as those on a PDA, but still usable.

The screen is acceptable, but does not do well in direct sunlight (or any sunlight for that matter). It is an older screen, so games and movies will tend to display "ghosting", or retention of images on the screen after they should have disappeared. I didn't find this to be a problem in office software.

I found the operating system to be a bit slow, but not unusable.

You can plug in a Wifi PCMCIA card (make sure you search to find compatible drivers before you buy) and surf, but some more modern pages will not work well (eg - Youtube).

It's not small enough to fit into a pocket, but it is small enough to be very convenient and portable. It's size also gives it a relatively long battery life.

PROS: Well-designed; CF and PCMCIA slots; edit Office documents; battery life
CONS: Screen "ghosting"; screen in sunlight; slightly slow interface

Overall, a great unit if you want to edit office documents on the go.
