For an upgrade to better suited for Photoshop editing, I have purchased this NEC along with a Dell U2410 which cost about 65% of this unit. I was using Dell Ultra-sharp for years. I was skeptical at first how the NEC would top the Dell after reading many reviews. The verdict, Dell went back for refund and NEC is the winner / survivor.
My initial reaction of this monitor is that it is heavy, thick, and a bit clumsy - compared to Dell. It shines and totally out-performed the Dell after a few hours of run-in. The Dell unit I received had the same problem documented well on internet forum - a pink tinting problem on the right side of screen that cannot be calibrated. NEC unit came with no issues at all. Using a Spyder to calibrate the screen and it was only slightly different than uncalibrated. This is a great sign - the manufacturer's original setting was accurate. Running the monitor for 24 hours straight now. Besides stunning colors and accuracy good for Photoshop, I think this screen is reasonably fast in refresh rate. Minor complains are fewer choices of connections and lack of USB ports and build-in speakers. Consider this monitor is built toward professional users, I can live with those flaws. This will be my main monitor from now on.

Terrific monitor for my needs,

I needed a monitor for my slightly aging MacBook Pro 15" Intel Core 2 Duo with a Radeon X1600 display card. The 27" Apple Cinema Display (with the glossy screen I can't stand anyway) can't work with my laptop for a variety of technical reasons. And it's $999. That's ridiculously overpriced, even for an Apple product.
I was skeptical this monitor would work with my MacBook and be as sharp as a regular Apple monitor. Yes. Perfect. Bright, good contrast and easy to set-up right out of the box. The DVI-DVI worked perfectly. I didn't need to calibrate it for my needs. A little cool on the white balancing, but that's better than the warm tones my previous old CRT produced. So far, no dead pixles, and the monitor screen seems consistently backlit from left to right and top to bottom (no hot spots). The stand is another plus: hydraulic lift, so you don't fight with it to raise or lower. Nice. And it can rotate a little which is a plus if your surface has a slight slant. These are pluses the 27" Apple monitor doesn't have.

Fantastic Monitor,

I have had this monitor for almost 2 years so my opinion is based on long-term use. It was very expensive for a 24" monitor at the time and was even more than Mac's highly regarded Cinema displays. I own an iMac (24") and I can say that Mac monitors are very sharp and look beautiful, however their glossy finish can make them annoying during the day. This NEC sits in the same room right beside my Mac so I can compare them side by side. The NEC is much better. First the matte finish means no glare. The colors are just as vivid and the pixels are extremely sharp. In fact, the Mac coloring is a tad exaggerated whereas the NECs are more natural looking. It doesn't surprise me this monitor is chosen for people who do photo and video editing. I mainly play games, but I've been extremely pleased and I would buy this monitor again in a heartbeat.
When I got it was $1100, but I see it's $700 now. Skip the Dell Ultrasharp - I originally got that but returned it for the NEC. This monitor is much better. You won't regret the purchase.
