For an upgrade to better suited for Photoshop editing, I have purchased this NEC along with a Dell U2410 which cost about 65% of this unit. I was using Dell Ultra-sharp for years. I was skeptical at first how the NEC would top the Dell after reading many reviews. The verdict, Dell went back for refund and NEC is the winner / survivor.
My initial reaction of this monitor is that it is heavy, thick, and a bit clumsy - compared to Dell. It shines and totally out-performed the Dell after a few hours of run-in. The Dell unit I received had the same problem documented well on internet forum - a pink tinting problem on the right side of screen that cannot be calibrated. NEC unit came with no issues at all. Using a Spyder to calibrate the screen and it was only slightly different than uncalibrated. This is a great sign - the manufacturer's original setting was accurate. Running the monitor for 24 hours straight now. Besides stunning colors and accuracy good for Photoshop, I think this screen is reasonably fast in refresh rate. Minor complains are fewer choices of connections and lack of USB ports and build-in speakers. Consider this monitor is built toward professional users, I can live with those flaws. This will be my main monitor from now on.

Terrific monitor for my needs,

I needed a monitor for my slightly aging MacBook Pro 15" Intel Core 2 Duo with a Radeon X1600 display card. The 27" Apple Cinema Display (with the glossy screen I can't stand anyway) can't work with my laptop for a variety of technical reasons. And it's $999. That's ridiculously overpriced, even for an Apple product.
I was skeptical this monitor would work with my MacBook and be as sharp as a regular Apple monitor. Yes. Perfect. Bright, good contrast and easy to set-up right out of the box. The DVI-DVI worked perfectly. I didn't need to calibrate it for my needs. A little cool on the white balancing, but that's better than the warm tones my previous old CRT produced. So far, no dead pixles, and the monitor screen seems consistently backlit from left to right and top to bottom (no hot spots). The stand is another plus: hydraulic lift, so you don't fight with it to raise or lower. Nice. And it can rotate a little which is a plus if your surface has a slight slant. These are pluses the 27" Apple monitor doesn't have.

Fantastic Monitor,

I have had this monitor for almost 2 years so my opinion is based on long-term use. It was very expensive for a 24" monitor at the time and was even more than Mac's highly regarded Cinema displays. I own an iMac (24") and I can say that Mac monitors are very sharp and look beautiful, however their glossy finish can make them annoying during the day. This NEC sits in the same room right beside my Mac so I can compare them side by side. The NEC is much better. First the matte finish means no glare. The colors are just as vivid and the pixels are extremely sharp. In fact, the Mac coloring is a tad exaggerated whereas the NECs are more natural looking. It doesn't surprise me this monitor is chosen for people who do photo and video editing. I mainly play games, but I've been extremely pleased and I would buy this monitor again in a heartbeat.
When I got it was $1100, but I see it's $700 now. Skip the Dell Ultrasharp - I originally got that but returned it for the NEC. This monitor is much better. You won't regret the purchase.

The NEC LCD2490WUXi2-BK 24" WIDESREEN LCD MONITOR is a beautiful little monitor. It has "Professional Quality" written all over it. Viewing DVD movies is enjoyable as is surfing the internet, but the key is to couple this unit with a NEC Display Spectraview II Calibration custom Sensor Colorimeter with its included software (software and device are MAC and PC compatible as is the monitor itself). This mouse-like object sets over the middle of the screen and performs a calibration of the screen to insure consistent color reproduction be it by print, video, web, or any of several other calibration methods. Once the screen is calibrated for your particular media selection, the software automatically creates an ICC Calibration Profile for that particular media so you can reproduce the look you see on the monitor to the selected output media (at this point I have not performed an accurate check of how well this does work, but some of the items I have posted on the web appear to look like I expect them with accurate color balances). The Colorimeter works its magic by directly modifying the NEC monitor internally with no operation manually required by you. This is possible because the Colorimiter is hooked to your computer through a USB port as is the monitor itself so they can easily communicate. The size of the 24" monitor is enough to show spreads comfortably. If I had the extra bucks, a larger version of this unit would be nice, but I am quite happy with the 24" version. You won't be disappointed at all.

I chose this monitor because of reviews from photographers. I use ColorMunki to profile the monitor, and it worked without having to make any monitor adjustments. (My previous monitor needed some tweaking.)
The display is everything I was wanting. The monitor shipped with a disk for some on computer control of monitor functions. This did NOT work on my Windows 7, 64bit machine. I tried the internet for information but no results. Since everything seems to work OK, I guess this is a "so what". The information that came with the monitor said that there was a sound bar available to work with it. I like having the speakers out of the way, but when I went to their web side to buy same, no sound bar was specified for this monitor. Oh Well. Bottom line is that I would probably order this monitor again, since its' performance is more professional than its' support.

This is an excellent monitor. As other reviewers have noted, it comes already calibrated nearly perfectly; when I ran my calibration software, the change was very small. It is rather heavy, and deep for a flat panel monitor, but the stand holds it balanced very nicely. Having moved up from a 20" flat panel, this is a major step up. I like the 16:10 ratio, rather than the usual 16:9 in widescreen monitors. If you are looking for a monitor that will enable critical work with images, without spending $2,000 or more, this is an excellent choice. The colors and brightness are uniform from one side of the monitor, to the middle, to the other side, and there's no backlight leakage. My computer has HDMI but no DVI ports, while this monitor has DVI but no HDMI, so I bought a separate cable with HDMI on one end and DVI-D on the other, and it works perfectly. One thing I don't understand is the given "List Price" of $1,209, when NEC's own website gives the MSRP as $899. It's a great monitor at a great price - no need to gild the lily.

This is great if you are serious about your printed work look as good on paper as it does on screen. Easy to calibrate and the size is perfect.

Just got this monitor, got from Dell this is not the type of monitor you find at a Best Buy. Simply a great monitor, worth the money (not cheap). Make sure to hook it with DVI-D to DVI-D connection for best performance.

Flickering after a couple of months,

After a few months of use the monitor will start flickering like crazy and the sellers will say it has nothing to do with them or the product.
No weird conditions happened, nor any abuse took place, actually the monitor was taken care of as if it was a holy item |
