The finest monitor by far I've ever owned or seen,

This review is from: NEC LCD3090WQXi-BK 30-Inch Widescreen High Resolution LCD Monitor (Electronics)
I read the other review here about faint green pixels flickering when the monitor was displaying large black areas. So I created a test image - entirely black and covering the entire screen. I peered closely at the image, and I cannot see anything but black - deep, saturated black.
The NEC is by far the finest monitor I've ever seen. It's very expensive, but you can sometimes find factory refurbs for about half the "new" price. That's the route I went, and I've never regretted it. My monitor is now 2 years old, and it's still perfect. If you're concerned about the reliability of refurbs, you can get 3-year extended warranties (2 years longer than the factory warranty) for about $200, and you'll still be way ahead of the "new" price. The image quality of the screen is amazing. I previously owned 24-inch monitors by HP and Dell, but they simply don't compare. Obviously not in size, and also not in the brightness and vividness of the image. I cannot think of anything to criticize about the monitor. It's simply flawless.

I've had this monitor for ~2 years now and love it.
I use it for both FPS's/games and critical color with with pictures, development work, etc. It handles all of this without the slightest trouble- games are fine, no ghosting at all, that I can tell. The only issue I've had is that if you're working on mainly black backgrounds- if you look _really_ hard, you can see lots of subpixels that are partially active- it's as if the liquid crystal is partly, but not entirely rotated. Most of mine are green and only seem to be on the right side of the screen. If I'm using anything but black, I can't see them. This has never caused me trouble and I don't see it unless I'm really looking for it, so I've ignored it/ I don't know if this is just MY monitor or if this is a more widespread problem.

I have a 24" version of this same model at work next to an Apple 30" display. The Apple is definitely more aesthetically pleasing, but I am more impressed with the display quality of the NEC. Colors are more accurate and lag times appear to be less to my eyes, so when it came time for me to get a new monitor for my home desktop, the NEC was at the top of my list. It is a big, hot and ugly beast sitting on my desk now, but I'm not concerned with bezel thinness when marching my armies across Europe, editing home movies, or hunting down a new paddle for my kayak. The big drawback is the lack of USB. Come on NEC; there's plenty of space inside that massive case and stand for a simple USB hub, and it's inexcusable at this price range.
I'd grab one of these while I still could: the trend in LCDs seems to be towards cheaper, lower quality monitor technologies. I hope NEC and companies like it can hold out and keep making the good stuff. Or they could make it look pretty and get double the price from those who think function should follow form.
