5.0 out of 5 stars Well Biult Monitor
When I was deciding on which 19 inch monitor to pick I did not base my opinion only on the reviews and experiences of other people. 2.0 out of 5 stars nice picture, but broken
I reviewed this monitor when I first got it and gave it 5 stars. But recently the monitor crapped out. I've only had it for about 4 months. It doesn't turn on, the status light just clicks on and off and won't power on. NEC's warranty states that it will replace your monitor with new or refurbished equipment, so low and behold they told me that they're going to...

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Quality at an Excellent Price, August 13, 2003

This review is from: NEC MultiSync FP912SB-BK 19" CRT Monitor (Black) (Electronics)
One day I discovered that my 19" Sony Trinitron FD CPD-E400 was dead and Sony wanted at least [money amount]to repair it, plus S&H there and back. I loved my Trinitron FD, but I thought I'd try to find a replacement for less than getting it fixed. After several DAYS of serious looking, I finally settled on the NEC FP912SB.

After using the monitor for 2 days, I can already tell you that I'd consider the image quality of this monitor to be identical to my old Sony. In fact, I have to give NEC bonus points for their NaViSet software, which allows you to adjust your monitor settings from within Windows. The software will also put up test patterns so you know your settings are right - a very handy feature.

This monitor also has quite a few more display controls than my old Trinitron FD. You can even adjust the color in each of the corners of the screen. I've never seen this before, but it could be helpful when the monitor starts to age.

When I say that the video quality is excellent, I mean it. As a Web Developer/Programmer and I spend ALL of my time at work, and a good portion of my time at home, in front of the PC (probably 65+ hrs/week). I am VERY picky when it comes to image quality because I do a lot of work in Photoshop making images for Web sites, so my colors have to be spot on.

This monitor is a perfectly flat screen, just like the Trinitron FD, as it uses the aperture grille technology (yes it has the two lines).

My only complaint about this monitor is that it is only made in black, no beige to match the rest of my components. This monitor is too good of a value to pass up. That and the fact that the NaViSet software was not included in the box (you have to download) made me give this 4 out of 5 stars.

When I was deciding on which 19 inch monitor to pick I did not base my opinion only on the reviews and experiences of other people. I decided to look at all the monitors that I thought were excellent or very good monitors (Samsung, Viewsonic, NEC, Philips, Sony). I went to my nearest retailer's and checked out their current displays. I was welcomed by the Viewsonic 19 inch monitors and was astonished by the Sony 19 inch monitor. The Samsung 19 inch monitors were not as impressive as I heard they were. I could not find any Philips displays. But I did notice one monitor that had both sharp text and rich clear graphics (Mitsubishi DP930). Its image was as smooth looking as the Viewsonic monitors with a hint of sharpness and slightly richer in color. What amazed me was that no other monitor compared to it except the Sony 19 inch monitor(which was very $$$$). I later found out that the Mitsubishi DP930 and the NEC FP912SB were the same monitors. Playing games and watching movies were excellent, but I did not get to do any image editing as yet. I highly recommend this monitor for its sharp text and very good graphics and image quality. I recommend you use the Naviset software to adjust the monitors settings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great monitor for the price, September 8, 2003
This review is from: NEC MultiSync FP912SB-BK 19" CRT Monitor (Black) (Electronics)
I did some serious research before I bought this monitor. First I wanted LCD, and my minimum size of the monitor was 19". So I searched around, but the price range was just too high. Well, even if price had not been a limiting factor, I would have gone for this monitor because of the quality. If you want an LCD with the performance that this NEC monitor has, you would be paying thousands.

And as I use computer more than 10 hours a day (software engineer), monitor being top notch matters much to me. This monitor has the top line quality for its price range.

Lastly, the price. Amazon has the best price with the super saver option. I looked around everywhere on the Internet, and Amazon has the best price and of course customer satisfaction rating. It only took them a couple of days to ship and it arrived here in just a matter of a week.

If you want to upgrade your monitor from 15" or 17" and cost performance really matters, this is the best choice as far as I know. NEC/Mitsubishi did a great job creating this monitor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Text Clarity and Color, November 9, 2003

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: NEC MultiSync FP912SB-BK 19" CRT Monitor (Black) (Electronics)
I spent forever researching 19" monitors and am thoroughly glad I choose this one. Previously I had a Shadow-Mask monitor (metal sheet with holes), and as many graphic designers will attest to, it produced extremely sharp text but was marginal on all other factors. I tried several different Aperture Grill (wires) models including high-end Sony's but was very disappointed until I came upon this monitor. It really scores 95% on clarity and 98% on color/contrast. The styling of the monitor itself is hum-ho, and the onmonitor controls are somewhat dated... luckily the Naviset tools more then make up for that.

At the time, and even up to this review, the folks at ARS Technica forums have given this monitor a ton of praise, so if you want more info, that's a good place to check.

In closing... if you are buying a monitor... concider that is it the single peice of hardware you will interact with 90% of the time you are in front of your computer. (you probably only use the keyboard 20% of the time) so spend the money, it's worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars So glad I got this monitor, June 11, 2003

This review is from: NEC MultiSync FP912SB-BK 19" CRT Monitor (Black) (Electronics)
After debating forever about which monitor to get, I decided on this one. Believe me, it took forever to make a decision. I looked at and read reviews for almost every 19" - 22" CRT monitor out there (ViewSonic, Sony, NEC). The 22" NEC monitors (FE & FP series) were a little out of my price range ($550+). This monitor was around $300 which included the shipping. That was still a little much, but now I realize it was money well spent. I can't begin to tell you how much I love this monitor. When I first connected it and booted up, the picture was way off balance, the corners were blotchy/discolored, i.e. it looked like crap. I was worried until I installed the NaviSet software... everything went uphill from there. You can adjust EVERYTHING with this software... this monitor is nothing without the Naviset software... you must download it from nec-mitsubishi's website. After tweaking the monitor with this software I must say it looks amazing, like nothing I've ever seen. I'm a gamer with a fairly high-end system, so this monitor gives full representation of what my system is capable of... I play counter-strike, battlefield 1942, medal of honor, etc... looks awesome. I highly recommend this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, September 11, 2003

This review is from: NEC MultiSync FP912SB-BK 19" CRT Monitor (Black) (Electronics)
This is great monitor crisp clear colorful. I have seen many monitors and everything just looks blurry compared to this. The only complaint I have is that sometimes when I turn it on all the colors are screwy. A quick deguass fixes everything, but not sure why it happens so frequently. Otherwise amazing, considering picking up another for dual monitor desktop!

4.0 out of 5 stars Superior Monitor, June 8, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: NEC MultiSync FP912SB-BK 19" CRT Monitor (Black) (Electronics)
After my I went through two Philips 19" monitors in a period of a month, I did a lot of research prior to buying. I bought this one because I couldn't find a bad review about it on the Internet and because NEC seems to have the best service policy.

My initial impressions are that it's an excellent professional monitor with beautiful colors. The only negatives are that the screen fonts could be a little sharper and the two thin horizontal lines in the middle of the monitor. I know this is standard for type of CRT, but I've never seen it on any monitor before . . . it'll take some getting used to.

Finally, the price here at Amazon was very competitive, especially with free shipping. Even with SuperSaver, I got it within two days.

Looks great whenever the monitor actually works.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Monitor for sharp text and vivid image, and more..., March 9, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: NEC MultiSync FP912SB-BK 19" CRT Monitor (Black) (Electronics)
I owned this monitor after long time searching on website for a good aperture grille CRT---especially the new totally flat ones: FD Triniton, Diamondtron, Viewsonitron or LG Flatron.
NEC used to produce lousy monitor with claimed ultra high refresh rate, but flickering screen. However, MITSUBISHI made something different.

The Pro:
1. The text is very sharp. I have used several Sony monitors, this one outperform most of them---not the F500 with 0.22 everywhere...2. The image is not that vivid as Triniton, however, Triniton image is not that true.
3. The metal shied perfectly.

The Con:
1. The one is heavy. With box, UPS charged 70lbs not as the claimed 63lbs.
2. It is bulky.
