5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful on my G4 PowerMac!
No problems with this LCD monitor at all. It's my first LCD flat panel, so I haven't got much to compare it with, but I must say, I am pleased. Excellent contrast, bright screen, works well with both my 2 year old G4 PowerMac (in OS 9 and OS X) and my 3 year old Windows 98 PC. I had no problems getting it set up or working with either system.

Of course, it is a...

2.0 out of 5 stars Great - Until it stops working!
I purchased two of these monitors, one for my PC and one for my G5, and love the way they look. About two years after I got them, the one I use most just went black. If I turned it off and repowered it it would come on for a while, but then go blank again. Power lite stays on. I swiched the two monitors and the problem followed the monitor. It was not my computer, not teh...

Excellent contrast, bright screen, works well with both my 2 year old G4 PowerMac (in OS 9 and OS X) and my 3 year old Windows 98 PC. Of course, it is a transition from a traditional CRT monitor-there is a set "native resolution" that the monitor looks best in (1280 x 1024). Of course you can use other resolutions, but they are not quite as nice. Since I was planning on setting it at 1280 x 1024, this is a non-issue for me. (All LCD monitors have a set "native resolution".) And, color calibration is ... "different" than it is with a CRT. Also, the colors get a little skewed when I look at the screen from an angle. (In this monitor's case, there is a pretty good viewing range, so I have no complaints.) I hasten to add, these are issues with all flat panels, so it comes with the territory! All-in-all, minor issues for me.

I am very pleased with this monitor, and hope to get another just like it soon.

The LCD1700V monitor has rich colors and a bright screen. It is an excellent buy...The only problem I'm now facing is that I'm running Windows with a 2 monitor setup. In comparison, my professional Viewsonic CRT monitor looks pale and I see myself often turning it off and working only with the NEC LCD monitor. I guess sooner or later I'll have to buy another LCD monitor :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and Crisp!, December 7, 2002

This review is a response to the review by "Borislav Kolev" from Texas.

The recommended rate for Vertical Refresh is simply a reference to how the LCD panel circuitry will handle the analog to digital conversion that is inherent in an LCD panel.
An LCD panel does not actually "refresh" the screen in the same manner that a cathode ray tube does (e.g., television or standard computer monitor) and you can see this when you view the monitor through a video camera (have you ever noticed the flicker you see on television sets in the background of a newscast? That's the phenomenon of refresh rate (in Hertz) being out of "sync" with the video camera).
Hence, our friend from Texas or anyone else with extreme sensitivity to common computer monitors (myself included) should experience NO sensitivity to an LCD panel that is using 60Hz vertical refresh. I suggest the reviewer give 60Hz a chance before returning the unit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb quality and equally great-looking!!, November 12, 2002
This review is from: NEC MultiSync LCD1700V-BK 17" LCD Monitor (Black) (Personal Computers)
I had gone for the NEC basically for two reasons, brand name and price. It had taken me 10 minutes to hook everything up and get it running. It has a nice auto adjust feature and the monitor is very fast. It also comes with a free software download called 'liquidview', which essentially makes the icons and fonts bigger at the highest resolution, so even at 1280x1024, you don't have to squint your eyes. For the price, this monitor is an excellent buy. The picture quality is superb, and at only 14 lbs and a 3-yr labor and parts warranty, you can't really go wrong.

I bought this monitor after searching it seems like forever.
I wanted a monitor for gaming but everything I read said that LCD's were not for gaming. Well I bought this monitor and I am extremely happy with it. The graphics are pure and clear. I am playing Asheron's Call 2 at the highest graphics settings and everything is crystal clear and nothing is lost. I am still amazed at how clear and vivid everything is. My computer is used for 90% gaming and I am as happy as I think I can be with this Monitor! I would not hesitate to recomend this 17 Inch LCD monitor!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love the LCD, November 21, 2002
I had one of these at work for 6 months and have been dying to get one at home. The image quality is excellent and the screen is easy on the eyes. I had read some things about LCD's being bad for video games. So far playing Wolfenstein and Max Payne I have no complaints. Actually the image quality and brightness is superior to my 7 year old, 17" CRT.

One knock, but I was not surprised, was the quality of video on the monitor. I popped in a DVD to see what it was like and this was one area where my old monitor has an edge. I guess with video the slower refresh is more evident. I still love the monitor and give it an enthusiastic 5 stars.

This monitor is superb. I compared it with Viewsonics and Sony. I can not tell the difference, while the Sony is lot more expensive. I would think that this is the best buy so far.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply wonderful...., September 9, 2002

As someone coming from the world of CRTs, a flat panel seemed expensive. I thought it would be worth it. I am, after all, a professional who stares at his monitor all day. And it was definately worth it.

With a 400:1 contrast ratio and 1280x1024 native resolution, it is very easy on the eyes. The on-screen controls are also nice and easy to use.

A nice (but not mentioned) feature is the ability to toggle 'expand' on or off -- that is, will an image coming to the monitor at a lower resolution be "stretched" to fill the screen, or will it be shown simply using a smaller screen area.

My biggest complaint is that the auto-adjust of the monitor doesn't work well in pure-text mode (i.e. old DOS modes) unless there is text that really fills the screen. But that's a truly minor problem for a display of this quality.

When I was ready to purchase a new computer I went for the custom box only because the day I laid eyes on the NEC 17 inch LCD monitor I knew I wanted one. It's easy to install and the picture is so incredibly crisp and clear, corner to corner, top to bottom. The biggest selling point of this monitor for me, though, is it's weight. It's only 13 pounds. Thirteen pounds!!! If you're tired of slogging 44 pound CRT monitors, consider an LCD model, especially the NEC Mitsubishi 1700V-BK.

Very bright picture. High resolution with excellent contrast. Much lighter than the monitor it replaced, it was a snap to install. Cables are conceled for a cleaner look. For 99% of computer use, this is the perfect monitor. Some extreme game players may not like it, even though I have a Nivida 128 mb video card there is some ghosting in extreme situations. I think this is just a fact of LCD screens in general.
Overall picture is outstanding. Viewable from a very extreme angle. I replaced a very good conventional monitor and this blows it away. I would recommend this monitor to anyone. It has a great 3 year warranty.
