Great monitor for the money!!!,
By Freddie Bickerstaff (Austin, TX United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: NEC MultiSync LCD1765 - LCD display - TFT - 17" - 1280 x 1024 / 75 Hz - 225 cd/m2 - 400:1 - 16 ms - 0.264 mm - VGA (Electronics)
I'm an apple macintosh user, and stand by apple products all the way. I very seriously considered getting an Apple 17" studio display, but the cost is a little out of my league. After careful research on the net and checking it out in store, I decided on this NEC LCD1765. The style is retro and slick (one of my favorite stylistic devices is the blocky gameboy style gradient fade on the frame around the actual display), but more importantly the display quality is SUPERB! this looks as good to me as the apple LCDs (which i use every day at work)... Negative points: Funky button layout... may require a few "auto adjusts" to properly lock a crystal clear picture (but once this is done it doenst need to be done again unless you change the settings). Lack of DVI input. Once the picture is clear tho it is CRYSTAL clear, even with the lack of DVI. I can't really tell the difference. Good deal for the money! Sony style, apple quality, NEC logo on the front!

Clearly the Best "Looking" LCD for the Money !,
By
This review is from: NEC MultiSync LCD1765 - LCD display - TFT - 17" - 1280 x 1024 / 75 Hz - 225 cd/m2 - 400:1 - 16 ms - 0.264 mm - VGA (Electronics)
Let me first say that I researched 17" LCD monitors for over a month before settling on the NEC 1765. After reading dozens of reviews, online and off, I narrowed down my choices to the following: Samsung 173p, Sony SDM-HX73, and the NEC 1765. The Samsung 173p (note that there's a huge difference in picture quality between the 173p and 173s models) admittedly has a SLIGHTLY better (brigher) picture aided by its 700:1 contrast, but it also cost $200 dollars more. I'm happy to report that I was able to buy the NEC 1765 for $450 with a $50 rebate and a $50 sale at Circuit City. The Samsung also has a slower response time of 25 ms (versus 16ms for the NEC) which is not favorable for playing games or watching action movies (both things which my hubby enjoys using the computor for). Then there is the SONY SDM-HX73. It has a high contrast (500:1), a FAST response time of 16ms, as well as decent integretated speakers. Plus, a unigue design. But when I went to my local Fry's and saw the 3 monitors side by side, the images on the NEC LCD simply looked BETTER, BRIGHTER, and CRISPER. Also, the SLEEK and modern NEC made the SONY look bulky. And even though having integrated speakers save space, they pale in comparison to a good set of exterior speakers. Finally, the NEC is the only one that incorporates a HARD SCREEN protector which allows me not to stress out if someone touches the screen (like my 3 year old). The only criticism I have read about the NEC is the glare issure but I simply adjust the angle of the screen (it's only bad if the light source is directly behind it). Personally, the only complaint that I have is the 1 year warranty. I have to say though that having inspected it, it's built like a tank - there's nothing FLIMSY about it. Plus, it arrived with ZERO DEAD PIXELS. I replaced my 19" CRT monitor and as pleased as punch - I should have made the switch sooner. With my new LCD monitor, and my wireless Microsoft keyboard and mouse, my "aging" computer got a MAJOR styling update!

When I go to the computer store to look at LCD monitors, they all seem to fall into one of two categories - those that look good and those that look great. This one is definitely one of the latter. I chose it mainly because of the acrylic covering that protects the screen. In our house, it is impossible to prevent small fingers from touching the screen. I was also waiting for a monitor that could display video and action games without too much ghosting. This NEC unit did not disappoint. Don't be put off by the location of the hard-to see control buttons (on the side of the bezel). A little fooling around orients you to NEC's scheme, and once it's set, you can forget it. Criticisms: Conclusion: For the price, you can't beat this value.

As I stood at the counter of an automotive service shop, I was totally "blown away" by this beautiful lcd display perched in front of me......It appeared to be from the future or at least somewhere far from Oklahoma City....I couldn't take my eyes off of this monitor;......classy and sturdy looking... I didn't know about resolution, pixels, contrast, and all that stuff; however, I knew this: "It was like looking into clear liquid"....I could see every little detail of the order from any angle that I stood.(I never dreamed an invoice could be attractive-looking) ..This was the 15" model #lcd1565 on the counter but looked so much bigger...In comparison to many lcd's , it was a little pricy for a monitor with only a one year warranty, but I was totally sold!..I bought the lcd 1765 17" and it looks fantastic!!!..Watching dvd's is totally incredible...My grandson put on a dvd,"Finding Nemo", and I'll swear it seemed to put us right in the water..It looks like we'll have to get on for the office now......I produce tv commercials and I'm sure that it wouldn't hurt my business if everyone could see the T.V spots on this monitor..hmmm?Obviously, I would recommend this classy #...you'll have to see it to believe it.

"Picture-Perfect" Monitor,
By Graham Dennis (North Adams, Ma USA) - See all my reviews

This monitor is the greatest monitor I have ever seen. From the extremely fine display to the way it blends seemlessly with the rest of the decor. The best part is when there is only a picture on the screen, it looks so much like a picture in a frame that I want to hang it on the wall. A true 5-Star monitor!

My two cents...,

Like other reviews posted, when you step into the monitors section in CompUSA this monitor will catch your eye. Not because of its style (at least not for me), but for its incredible picture quality. It is flawless for viewing DVDs and playing video games - enough said. One concern I had before I bought it was the glare. In the stores there is a glare. However, this has not been a problem for me. The only time I can see a glare or reflection is when the screen in completely black - which is never the case when I'm using it. I have no complaints, but will echo that fact that the base is stiff. But this is of no real concern unless you plan on moving or tilting your monitor frequently.

Is It High Quality CRT??!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: NEC MultiSync LCD1765 - LCD display - TFT - 17" - 1280 x 1024 / 75 Hz - 225 cd/m2 - 400:1 - 16 ms - 0.264 mm - VGA (Electronics)
The colors are so realistic and bright that I can't help think that it's a CRT. The difference is that with these I can fit two in the same space it takes to have one CRT. Whether turned on or off it always looks like a beautiful picture frame. But when playing a movie or game is when it really shines. I dare you to compare side by side with more expensive LCDs and see for yourself. You will be amazed.

Best image for a 17" monitor,

Great contrast, great response time, super sharp image, nice style. As with all LCD monitors, you need to use the 'native' resolution for best image quality. The only thing I wish is that they'd come out with an 18 and 19" version of the same monitor (they've got 'em in Japan!).

Superb Monitor,

This is the best LCD monitor I have seen at this price. It is bright, crisp, and the colors are very accurate after a little calibration. The contrast is also very good. The monitor is very clean looking and extremely futuristic looking. The response time is excellent and I had no problems with ghosting on either movies or games. The images seem to pop off the screen with splendid realisim. The only drawbacks I see are the 1 year warranty, and it would be nice if the base swiveled. If you can live with these two minor drawbacks go for it because you simply won't find a better display under $600.00.

I've used this model for the last few years and it has been outstanding. Nice sharp and clear images, and great color range. I used this monitor for processing digital images, and never had any complaints. After eight years, I'm sad to say, I'm replacing my NEC. I started having problems with flickering a few days ago, and the monitor went out today. When it goes, it goes quickly. I'm still giving this a good review as I loved this monitor and think it's a great value for the price. I guess all good things really do come to and end. |
