4.0 out of 5 stars Great value 19" monitor, December 30, 2004

This review is from: NEC MultiSync LCD1935NXM 19" LCD Monitor (Personal Computers)
The 1935NXM is a great value 19" monitor. The picture quality is bright and clear. The monitor has 16 msec response time at close to $400 after rebate, a great deal for this screen size. It is also wall mountable! The silver color and blue lighting gives the monitor a modern appearance and looks even better at night. However, some might find the blue lighting on the back of the monitor annoying if sleeping in the same room. The monitor design is very simple, with the bulk of the lcd mounted on a simple base. While common, the design makes the monitor difficult to turn. Also, the features layout is very awkward. The selection menu is configured in a circular layout and one must scroll through either clockwise or counterclockwise to exit, even while simply adjusting brightness or contrast. The menu design is not intuitive and I still have not gotten used to it yet. I prefer to just find acceptable settings and leave it at that. Despite the minor design flaws, the 1935NXM is still a great value 19" monitor.

5.0 out of 5 stars 16ms Response time, DVI inputs, what more can you ask for?, November 24, 2004

It arrived with no dead pixels, the screen is just stunning. It was so bright that I had to tone down the brightness. Compared to the 14.1" screen on my Dell laptop, there it was just so unbelievable. Now the laptop is going on ebay.

The "Function" and "Select" buttons are located on the stand and is beautiful, this is the first LCD that I've seen that incorporates the Ipod touchpad style fuction and select buttons that light up blue. The large "NEC" logo also lights up blue which is amazing. It has a thin bezel so those who want dual LCD's can use it. The speakers on this however was pointless but since most people don't even use speakers on LCD's, I didn't think it would matter. The most amazing this is how clear and precise this screen is, I have it hooked up through DVI and its just beautiful. Gaming is great too (because of the 16ms response time), no ghosting in UT2004, Max Payne 2 and Wolfenstein. I'm planning to buy another one for dual DVI displaying.

What can I say, DVI and 16ms response time and the "NEC" brand really did it for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Nice Monitor, January 7, 2005

This review is from: NEC MultiSync LCD1935NXM 19" LCD Monitor (Personal Computers)
I received this monitor for my girlfriends PC. It is a replacement for a 6 year old 21" Hitachi CRT monitor. I first connected with standard VGA cable as I was waiting for the DVI cable and after a little set up, I was quite pleased with the appearance on the screen. The menu controls are kinda funky and takes some getting use to them.

Yesterday, I got the DVI cable and what at difference! The clarity is incredible, the color saturation is very good and the text is very legible.

I was concerned about scan frequency as I normally run CRTs at 85 to 100 hertz to reduce flicker and at the 1280x1024 setting the NEC monitor wanted 60 hertz. So I changed the setting to 60 and it is absolutly flicker free.

Except for the OSD controls, this is an excellent moniter, but once things are set up, there should be no need to use the OSD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent. Great picture quality good on all apps tested, December 6, 2004

In the past, I've not been a big fan of LCD monitors. I always felt they were behind the curve compared to old fashioned CRT displays.

NEC changed my mind. Text is sharp and easy to read, video is clean clear. When browsing the web, colors are vibrant and crisp. The on screen menu takes a little getting used to, but you shouldn't have to use it much since the auto-settings are very good.

I've played several online and offline games at various resolutions, all with good results.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a 5 star monitor ..., July 8, 2005

I agree with the other reviewers that this is an excellent product, beautiful design, great performance and specs and a good deal for the price in comparison with other makes/models.

But not perfect. As other reviewers have said the on-screen-menu is difficult to use, it's timing is badly set: it doesn't give you enough time to finish what you want to do, additionally if you are using the DVI cable most of the options are disabled... but there is a good option by using the NaViSet software provided at www.necdisplay.com, with that program you only need the display buttons to control the speaker's volume.

Another regret is that the monitor doesn't include a DVI cable, just the usual analog. So you should take that cost into account.

And my last regret is that the unit I received does have dead pixels, 4 of them, 2 very noticeable and the others mostly not. You can read all about Class 2 quality, which is the standard by with these monitors are produced, at the above site and the monitor complies with that standard... but I'll have to get used to those 2 ugly faults.

This monitor exceeded my expectations. I didn't think I would get really good quality for this price. I was WRONG! Screen is bright, text is very clear and easy to read and graphics are very good and I'm using VGA and not DVI. I paid 429.99 at Office Depot plus there was a $70 NEC mail in rebate and a $80 Office Depot mail in rebate which made this 19 incher an absolutely great buy! I definitely recommend this monitor. Even without the rebates this monitor is a good buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great so far..., September 26, 2005

This review is from: NEC MultiSync LCD1935NXM 19" LCD Monitor (Personal Computers)
I've had my NEC Multisync LCD1935NXM for about three weeks now. It has one dead pixel but it's not a huge problem. It replaced a 19" LaCie CRT - which was too bulky and heavy - and I use an Apple 20" LCD at work. The NEC can't compare to either one in terms of sharpness but, for the money, I'm quite satisfied. It's bright, has good color saturation and a consistent view from wide angles. Based on my somewhat limited experience, I would recommend this product.

I have owned this monitor for about a month and everything so far has been perfect. The picture was too bright so I turned it down to about two-thirds. It seems very sharp with no dead pixels. The speakers are acceptable although not great but I am using them instead of regular computer speakers. If you play a lot of music then you should use separate, better speakers. With the [...] this monitor was a real bargain versus ones I had seen in BJs and similar discount stores yet the quality is very good.

At full price the NEC LCD1935NXM 19" LCD is an attractively-priced high quality monitor. With the rebate it is a great monitor AND a great value. It is very sharp, bright and has beautiful contrast. The setting are intuitive, the controls are easy to access, yet out of the way. It is attractively designed and, pun intended, easy on the eyes. I am buying a second for the kids' computer.
