Excellect Choice For Speed and Quaility,
By Garin Miyaji (Waipahu, HI United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: NEC SuperScript 1400 Laser Printer (Office Product)
This is an awesome printer. Very easy to set up. Technical support was GREAT. I had to use it on the first day. I could talk to someone within a minute or two. Do not use the USB connections. They are having some problems with that. I was getting an error, to add paper to the tray and it wouldn't let me print. When I switched to the parallel port connection everything went fine. Print speed and quality is excellent. I previous owned an HP 1100, and it was good, but not for the price. This printer was cheaper and it prints faster and better. One draw back is that it takes 15-20 seconds to print the first page. So far paper feeds straight, controls are easy to use. They also have a printer monitor that notifies you if something may be wrong with your connection or something else. The type of plastic used with the paper tray seems cheap, but it does the job. The plastic guides in the paper tray seem real cheap. Each time I move them I think it going to break. You need to squeeze the lever and lift up slightly and then move. For a tad over $300, this is a winner. With excellent speed and quality that you can't go wrong with.

Great printer, great price, great warranty...,

I have been nothing but thrilled with this printer. I did a lot of research before deciding on the NEC Superscript 1400. My decision was made by a number of things. Before purchasing this printer, I called the NEC customer service people to get some info on the product and to get an idea on how helpful they would be in case of any problems. The individual that I spoke with was VERY helpful. I specifically inquired whether the drum and the toner are one or two components. Some printers have a drum that is separate from the toner, which needs to be replaced every other time you change the toner for an additional $200-- this is an expense I did not want. The NEC 1400 has a combined toner/drum for $79 (lasts 3000 pages)...the same price and output as most other laser toners... For the price and the 2 years of warranty (most lasers only have 1 year)...this is an AWESOME printer... and it only took a couple of minutes to get it setup.

Very reliable printer at a great price,

I used to use only HP printers, but I read some very good reveiws for the NEC printers. This printer very well backed up these claims and performed better than I expected and outperformed my HP printers in speed and print quality. You can not find a better sub printer than this one. The memory expansion options are also a plus because you can use regular simms or EDO memory and these can be found virtually anywhere. The only downside is that because NEC is not a well known brand for printers, finding accessories such as toner is not as easy compared to the other better known printer manufacturers.

NEC 1400 Has No Driver For MS Millenium,
By A Customer
This review is from: NEC SuperScript 1400 Laser Printer (Office Product)
Tonight I got my new NEC SuperScript 1400 Printer. However, after connecting it to a new computer, and using the CD to install a driver, the printer just prints a black band along the left margin of the paper (and no text). Why? After three hours waiting and talking with tech support at NEC, my computer manufacturer, and again at NEC, I learned that NEC does not have a driver to make the printer work with Microsoft Windows Millennium. NEC and Amazon.com should disclose that NEC SS 1400 PRINTER WILL NOT OPERATE WITH COMPUTERS THAT USE THE WINDOWS MILLENNIUM OPERATING SYSTEM. It would save everyone time. Now, I have to ship the printer back to Amazon. Amazon and NEC should also mention that neither Office Depot nor Staples carries the toner cartridges.

great printer. no doubt. The guy who's complaining that he can't print with Windows ME is just plain wrong... just download the driver form nectech.com's website. You can also buy extra toner from nectech.com for just 79 dollars.

Good Home Office/School Printer,

This printer should be commended for its price and quality concerning the equipment. However, this printer is lacking a USB or serial cable upon purchasing this printer. Admittedly, $20 is not too much for either cable, but at least NEC should provide one or the other. The device responds quietly and relatively efficently. Compared to HP printers, it is a very comparable printer. The toner is quite cheap as well, as compared to Hewlett Packard's (which I've seen range into $100-$150). Overall though, I have been impressed with the printer. No printer jams, no slow response times upon starting up or printing...the only thing that is lacking is the improved dpi for the Macintosh side, rather than the Windows side.

Printer is fast and very quiet, with excellent resolution. Have been using it extensively and have had no problems. Others had made remarks about: 1) too long to print first page; mine prints in a matter of a few seconds. 2) paper jams; I've had no problems at all, so it must be the paper they were using. 3) no cable is included; many printers do not include the cable, this is no surprise. For the price, this is one of the best printers you can buy. My old NEC Supercript 860 is still going strong. These are solid, dependable printers. Sure, toner cartrigdes are impossible to find in stores, but simply order them on-line. Plus, the NEC toner cartridges tend to last longer. Has a nice look, and a small footprint for a fast printer. Excellent buy.

Good printer - multipurpose tray is lame,
By Shepherdboy (Woodstock, GA) - See all my reviews

Although I've found this to be a good printer, one of the features I specifically bought it for was the drop down multi-purpose tray. I wanted to have regular paper in the main tray and be able to use specialty paper in the MPT. This printer's multi-purpose tray will only take 1 sheet at a time. How lame is that? One sheet! Apparantly, there is a 1450 model of this printer that has a standard MPT that holds 100 sheets. If you have interest in the multiple paper trays, stay away from this model.

good output, high noise,
By A Customer
This review is from: NEC SuperScript 1400 Laser Printer (Office Product)
I returned this printer to Amazon one day after it arrived to my house. Printer had really good output, but made a high pitch noice every time it printed and it would stay on for at least 5 minutes (the lowest time setting for power saving feature). It really bothered me to listen to it and my wife did not like it either. So I purchased Brother HL1240, liked it and kept it while returning this NEC. Output on both was the same (600 DPI), Brother was somewhat quicker to start printing, and was very quiet. I really cannot say anything bad about this printer except for the high pitch noise that is inexusable.

Good for the money,

I was debating on rather to buy the NEC 1400 or the 1450. I chose the 1400 for a few main reasons. The difference between the 2 isn't that great, and the 1450 is a few hundred more. The only real differences were the paper tray and the ability to expand the memory. I figure by the time you need more memory its time to get a new printer. For the money go with the 1400. P.S. When I recieved mine it didn't have the USB drivers for Windows 98, but you can download them from nectech.com. |
