This figure is a vast improvement on both series 1 and series 2 Marcus Fenix. Articulation is identical to series 2 Marcus Fenix, which gives you enough to make a variety of poses, but be careful the joints can be sticky so be patient when working them out.

The sculpting is a major improvement from its predecessors. The new lancer is far more accurate depicted, and fits much easier into Marcus's hands than the previous versions (a peg on the Lancer lets you put it on his back).

Overall a great buy, I definetely reommend it.

The toy came broken, the material is quite bad and you feel very weak.
within the packaging looked good, but when you open it I realized he had a broken foot.

If you are a fan of the Gears of War (GoW) videogames from Epic and Microsoft Game Studios then you obviously know about the killer line of action figures associated with GoW being produced by Neca. What you may not know is just how much improvement Neca has added to these figures with each successive wave. This particular version of Marcus comes from wave 3, and is quite possibly the best GoW figure yet produced!

Attention to detail is what separates Neca from other toy companies, and this figure is no exception. Added articulation in Marcus's arms give way to tons of posing possibilities, but it is the new sculpts that really make this figure shine. His GoW 2 head-sculpt is spot on. Whereas before Marcus had a somber expression on his face, now he sports a gritty, angry, teeth-bearing scowl; perfect for delivering orders to his squad-mates. Another item that has been updated is the famous Lancer Assault Rifle. Now the rifle has newly sculpted sights, a (sorta) longer barrel, and a brand new handle that looks much closer to the actual in-game models and makes it fit nice and snug in Marcus's hands. Also the Lancer has a new peg on the left side so that Marcus can attach it to his back - just like the game!

As usual the paint applications are almost flawless. The armor is dirty and battle-worn, the boots are covered in mud, and the overall color scheme is really quite impressive in comparison to his video-game counterpart. If you have the regular edition of Marcus ver.3 his Lancer will have a realistic dirty wash over it and the chainsaw bayonet will be covered in blood splatter. Again the attention to detail is amazing.

There is also a Marcus variant figure which comes with a golden lancer assault rifle. I believe this 'chase' figure was extremely short-packed thus making it a highly sought after collectible. What is a golden-lancer you ask? Well if you bought the collectors edition of Gears of War 2 then you were given an Xbox Live code for a free download of an in-game "Gold-plated Lancer" to use during online multi-player matches. Neca, being huge fans of Gears of War 1 & 2, threw in this little extra as fan-service and gave the world a "real" golden lancer. Now maybe in future waves of figures we will see a Golden Hammerburst! (Edit: There now is a two-pack Locust Drone/Sniper set available at Toys 'R' Us which does indeed include a GOLD Hammerburst 2.0!!!) Thanks Neca, you rule!

I was fortunate enough to pick up the rare Marcus variant, but don't spend time and gobs of money searching for this one (unless of course you can find it at an awesome price) because with or without the gold lancer this 'Marcus version 3' is THE standard for GoW figures. I guarantee that if you are a fan of the game, then you will be elated when you get this figure in your hands. I can't say it enough, the attention to detail is outstanding, and any self-respecting Gear-head must own this gem. Don't hesitate, this figure is worth every penny!
