The NES advantage was great... All the cool kids had them. And unlike some of the awful accessories Nintendo would unleash on us kids like the Power Glove, the advantage was actually a good, solidly made peripheral. It brought home the feel of the arcade like never before, and for those willing to get used to it (or already were used to it, due to rigorous arcade playing), it offered a level of precision unmatched by a standard controller. There are plenty of games that are best played with a classic NES controller, but there were also a great many that made you glad to have the Advantage handy. It even had turbo switches, which back in the NES days were a necessity for some games. If you had an NES, you wanted an Advantage arcade stick!

Great advantage!!,

This is a good way to play games that have to do with flying and moving. Its joystick allows u to move in any direction and it feels like an arcade game. I love to use it on mario, because it gives u a more of a running and jumping distance. The only thing i have against it is sometimes ur hand loses control on the joystick and the red buttons get stuck allot.

I had a pair of these when the NES system was hot (20-something years ago). They died. These are good replacements that allow my grown children to have fun competing together with the extra zip provided by these enhanced controllers.

I love the Advantage, especially the Turbo function. The Slow works for some games, but not others, and the joystick's a bit too short, but the controller is fantastic for arcade shooters. I have used it on Xevious, Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!!, Super Mario Bros. and Tetris so far, and the Turbo function is extremely useful for Xevious. The Slow feature works for Xevious and Tetris, but not on MTPO, and on MTPO it is IMPOSSIBLE to do anything. Seriously. I cannot beat Glass Joe with the Advantage, yet I got past King Hippo with a regular pad. The real reason I rated this four stars is because of the &*@#!$! sticky buttons. I have died so many times in Xevious and Super Mario Bros because of the sticky buttons that I had to rate this excellent peripheral lower. There is probably a way to modify the Advantage so that the buttons aren't so sticky, but until I find a way to do that, I'm rating this a 7/10. (I rounded up to four stars)

Was in great condition and met my gaming standards. Needed a little cleaning to get the musty feeling off but okay otherwise. Joystick is tight just like in seller's description. Only issues I had/have is the player switch was gunky (but was easy to clean and deal with) and the bottom is showing signs of corrosion. Look's great and works wonderful.

OK, I finally got Galaga, one of my favorite arcade games, in the mail today, so I was able to properly try using the NES advantage.
Well, sadly, I gotta say that this thing isn't made too well, especially for a Nintendo brand accessory. First off, the good points: Turbo is nice and adjustable (can be adjusted separately for each button) and the little player switch thing is pretty cool for arcade games. Now for the bad stuff. First off, the buttons. If you don't push the button DEAD CENTER, they are tough to push and they stick. So unless you have fingers at least as huge as the buttons, any arcade shooter game such as Galaga, where you tend to naturally move your finger off the button as you're nailing it, will not go so well unless you have a tendency to use multiple fingers to press one button. The only solution to this problem is the turbo feature, which just isn't really adequate, mostly because it's insanely difficult to time your shots well. Second, the joystick. It is fairly stiff toward the edges, which means you have to use excessive force in order for it to register. This is a serious problem for games like Pac Man and Donkey Kong, or basically any game which uses more than two opposite directions, because you have to push in each direction. This forces you to concentrate more on the controller itself, making it more difficult to concentrate on the games. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this controller because of the terrible buttons, but there really are no alternatives, unless you happen to own a Generation NEX, in which case the Generation NEX Wireless Arcade Stick is an alternative which is supposedly good. With that being said, despite the problems, it is still a functional arcade-style controller, and an alternative is not going to be available anytime soon. Just don't expect it to feel just like an arcade cabinet, because if that's what you think you're buying, you will be quite disappointed.

Got this to add to my NES collection. It feels very well made and heavy, and the pads on it prevent it from moving around when playing (as it's made to be played over a flat surface like a coffee table). The joystick is very nice for some games (not great for platformers, but in overhead games it's best), and the adjustable turbo button is very nice. The 1p/2p switch is very convenient when playing certain games like Mario 1/3 where the players switch off playing. The slow motion feature is just pausing and unpausing the game repeatedly, but actually can be helpful in some games.
Overall, very glad I purchased this. Many people are selling this used for under 10$ including shipping, which is a great price. Go get yourself one!

You know that giddy feeling you get when you get something that you wish you had as a kid? And it arrives in mint condition decades later? That's sort of how I feel about the NES Advantage.
I was bored and looking for some interesting retro parts and found this for sale from a seller. It was something I just had to have. And I couldn't believe my eyes when I opened the package up. The outside of the original box was a little faded due to the age. But, after sliding out the styrofoam packaging and removing its lid I was overcome by that classic "new part" aroma. This was certainly not a used controller by any stretch of the imagination. It was a brand new circa 1987 NES Advantage stick which I received in 2010! They don't make controllers like this anymore. It's just a very solid controller with the right feel. Nothing felt loose or out of place. And how many controllers can boast having an underside made of metal? This controller is simply built to last and certainly puts all knockoffs to shame. And not only does it work great with my old NES but by using a USB-to-NES adapter cable it works great as a controller for my computers. The stick works quite well with FCEUX and MAME. There's even something nice to be said about having adjustable rapid fire buttons that you toggle on and off and literally dial in for the right spray of shots. The "slow motion" mode is a little hokey, though. It simply simulates it by rapidly toggling the "start" button used for pausing. And the idea of having two cables to run to each port of the NES for the sake of allowing one NES Advantage to be shared between two players sounded like a good idea. But the NES Advantage works fine just using one cable. Those are very minor flaws. This controller is well-made and is a worthy addition to any game room system (console or arcade) or even your desktop.

This joystick is great for MAME (PC arcade emulator) too!! I have a NES and a SNES USB converter and I just plug it in to the converter and into my PC and I have a great joystick for Arcade games like Donkey Kong, Pacman, simple shooters, you name it, sure it can't play games like Mortal Kombat, but for the Classic arcade games we all grew to love this joystick is a great addition and beats a joypad any day.
