This book presents .Net from a Delphi programmer’s viewpoint. It presents the core concepts of the .Net world in terms of the concepts a Delphi programmer is already familiar with. It is designed to help today’s Delphi programmers not only adopt to Delphi for .NET, but also to C# if that is their preference.

It is best to consider the book as the Delphi equivalent of a migration book. We already have migration books for VB6 programmers moving to .NET, and C++ programmers moving to .NET. This book is for Delphi programmers moving to .NET.

About the Author

Jon Shemitz has been programming since he was 12, when he learned Focal on a PDP-8. He has been programming professionally since he graduated Yale in 1981, and has been using Borland Pascal since Turbo Pascal 1. He’s done everything from shrink-wrap programming to consulting; has published a couple dozen programming articles; and has given programming talks on two continents. Shemitz also writes KYLIX: The Professional Developer's Guide and Reference (Apress, 1-89311-589-5) .NET for Delphi Programmers is his second book.

As someone who used to use Delphi almost all the time, I hate to admit that in order to stay employable today, I'm having to know and use .NET. If you find yourself in the same situation, and you want a fast-track to .NET 2.0, then this book is at the top of the list.

It's the single most used book in my collection today when it comes to .NET.

At first, I read it cover to cover. It's not hard reading like some books can be, and it made sense to me since I know Delphi.
But with Jon's writing style, it's organized in a way that I reach for it when I need a quick reference as well.

It comes with special tidbits about the inner workings of the CLR, which I always find fascinating.

I keep it at the front of my bookshelf. I've had other programmers that C++ guys come by and ask to use it. So you don't need to know Delphi to make good use of it. Borland C++ Builder users will find it an easy read as well since Builder is built on Delphi.

Five thumbs up for this one. Well done Jon!
