Excellent case study to see the whole architecture of .NET,
By Neil "nwcs" (Tennessee) - See all my reviews
This review is from: .NET e-Business Architecture (Paperback)
I won this book at the 2002 ASP.NET conference and I'm glad I did! Although I have been in commercial .NET development for about 6 months now, this book has still been useful. It covers the development of an e-business site and shows you a lot of the design considerations. Along the way, you're introduced to ways of solving problems you may not have realized.Besides .NET, there are useful sections on SQL Server 2000 (including Index Performance Analyzer, SQLXML, and Stored Procedure tricks), COM+, and a general security/roles discussion. And they present it within a .NET deployment scenario. Although most of the .NET coding techniques are easily grasped, understanding how they all fit together takes time. And this book is useful in helping you see the big picture.

Good high-level overview,
By Val (Bay Area, CA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: .NET e-Business Architecture (Paperback)
This book provides a good-high level overview of the design and integration of a complex, e-business system. The case study is a good approach, and easily adaptable to many "real-world" scenarios. My only complaint was that there was not much discussion or examples of actual code in the book, thus one is left to sort through the source code (provided on their website) to try and see how their architecture approach boils down to the code level. Overall, however, this is a good introduction to planning and designing n-tiered applications with the .NET framework.

It's a ok book, but the download code dose not work. The book is useless without the code. And don't expect any help from the Publisher, you won't get any! So save your money and buy another book instead!

Good overview,
By H.P. (Ottawa, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: .NET e-Business Architecture (Paperback)
This book provides an exellence big picture of .NET in developing an e-commerce website. It will definitely save you a lot of time in developing a website. It does not provide in detail on how do you implement it though. You would need specific books on asp.net and on VB.net or C# to complement it.

Good Case Study,
By "ltarpitch" (New Mexico) - See all my reviews
This review is from: .NET e-Business Architecture (Paperback)
This book provided a nice case study approach view of the .NET platform. It compliments the VB books and C# books that are out there. Coverage of languages and the .NET Framework is not comprehensive, but it did help me understand how this platform might be used to solve real-world problems.

previous review,
By Robert Smith (Michigan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: .NET e-Business Architecture (Paperback)
Well, I'm not sure what happened to my previous review concerning my opinion of this book. I can only guess that the folks at G.A. Sullivan cried loud enough to get it removed. However, I continue to stand by my assessment that this books SMELLS, and not like roses. From the title, I was expecting a book that covered design and implementation methods in depth. However, I was left with a feeling that the book was written more to pat themselves on the back.

Recommend you to buy it if ...,
This review is from: .NET e-Business Architecture (Paperback)
I like SAMS books but for this book I'm annoyed with below:- Installation problem in SQL2000 on XP workstation. I needed to install database in another server. - The flowcharts seem to be output of "overnight" crash or the company G.A.S has been relectant to disclose details. We want full UML diagrams. - The sample project is too casual although the posters on wall seems serious. - Adopt ms passport in authoring ticket purchasing. We want VeriSign component. However, I still recommend you to buy it if you just want paper reference of a ticket purchasing counter and some loosely organized white papers but relevant to the topic, .net + architecture. Last. To G.A.S.
