5.0 out of 5 stars this is a tool to save you time
Indeed, this book is expensive - and for those who have more time than money you are probably better off spending the weeks it would take to replicate the research and organization that you will find in this book.

But if your time is valuable, then this book is worth a read.

If you need to obtain an understanding of .NET very quickly for a job...

1.0 out of 5 stars Expensive
This book is a rip off. The author may have written the book in one day. It does not contain enough material. If you search the internet you will find a lot more questions for free. I have purchased the entire series including the JAVA ones. It is just not worth it. I spent close to $250.00 for nothing.

1.0 out of 5 stars Garbage, June 17, 2010

This series of books presumes to provide instant knowledge (104 pages for ASP.NET) in a day's worth of reading. Unfortunately, if your knowledge of a subject area is this limited, this book will only take you from total beginner to novice : not enough to fool a knowledgeable interviewer (as opposed to an upper-management suit) who has actually soiled one's hands with the technology and who is looking for a hire with actual work experience.

If you do need a crash course, the Dummies series will do a much better job (and so will the O'Reilly or APress series) but in reality, you really need to download the (free) Express version of Visual web developer, and use it while you're working through one of the latter books. Needless to say, if you are serious about landing a job, you need to block off a lot more than 24 hours to play with a technology, so that you can discuss it knowledgeably.

Incidentally, the reviewer who has given this item 5 stars, Jim Stewart, is also a published author in the ITCookbook series (Web PHP...).Consequently, his comments are hardly likely to be neutral, to put it politely.

If you need to obtain an understanding of .NET very quickly for a job interview, then this is your book.

If you want a comprehensive bible, then no - you are better off looking elsewhere.

But this does not compare to "freely avaialble resources" - not even close. This is extensively researched and organized.
