Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I've had this router for a couple of months now so I've had plenty of time now to see how it behaves in our very busy home environment. Our network consists of several wired and wireless devices including 2 HTPCs, 3 desktop PCs, 3 laptops, a IP camera, wireless printer, 16-port switch, Ooma VOIP, network CableCard tuner, Viera smart TV and home server.

What I Like:

As far as reliability and speed goes, the router has been perfect so far. Since installation, I have not had to reboot the router once other than the required reboot when changing certain parameters in the router setup. We have had no dropped wireless connections, it streams VUDU HDX video perfectly on the 5GHz band to our smart TV and the wired connection to the internet is working perfectly. Range is very good, even with it installed near the ceiling of the basement on top of the network rack. It ranges from 5 bars on the first floor to 3 bars on the 3rd floor. I can also see it across the road in the neighbor's yard and get 1 bar.

The router has some very nice features like dual-band networks and a dual-band guest network. The dual-band guest network is probably my favorite new feature compared to my previous router. I can give a password to our guests so they can connect to the internet but restrict it so they are unable to see anything on our network. There is one issue though with the guest network I will discuss below in the cons section.

The design allows it to sit well on top of my network rack and it doesn't seem prone to lift or tipping over like other routers I've had. It has a nice rubberized bottom that keeps it in place and the port placement balances it well so it doesn't tip.

Hello Everyone,

I'm a beta tester for Netgear and had the pleasure of testing this router out on my home network. The router has a lot of very good options and for $99 it's a great price for what you're getting. The router has the new AC standards including backward compatibility for G and N devices. It has the 2.4 and 5.0 ghz dual bands. So this gives you the advantage to be ready for the new wireless devices coming out for AC.

I run a robust network with multiple gaming devices. I can tell you this device handles multiple devices without any issues. At multiple times during the testing I was able to run up to three gaming consoles and streaming movies through Netflix. This little device handled it without any problems.

The device has a USB port with allows for external hard drives or a printer to be attached. I can tell you that having the option to attach a USB printer is great. Anyone who has to print through a computer will no longer have to do that. Just install the software and then attach the printer to the router. It's that easy and your now printing without having to go through you're computer.

Overall this device is great buy for anyone looking to upgrade from either wireless G or N. I would recommend it to any of my friends and family.

Verified Purchase
I just installed this router, which replaced an older Belkin router. Installation itself was easy, but I was disappointed at first because it was giving me the same speed I was getting with the old Belkin router (16mps down/7mps up). I was all set to send the product back to Amazon for a refund and go back to the Belkin, but I decided to call Netgear tech support first. After making a few adjustments to router with the support person's guidance, I was able to get the speed up to as high as 26.53 down / 10.67 up.

My only complaint is that I had to talk to a tech support lady in India, who I could barely understand. I wish American companies would stop outsourcing their tech support to India, but guess that's just the way it is nowadays.

I recommend this router to anyone who has a high speed ISP connection.

I originally purchased this device roughly two weeks ago. The setup was fairly easy and once everything was setup, I was able to get all my wireless devices on the network map. I have 2 smart televisions, 1 samsung network extender, 1 computer, 1 smartphone, and a wireless printer. The speed was good once set up. I had a smaller router before which was causing my connection to drop in and out while streaming movies and shows on Amazon Prime.

Everything was running smoothly except towards the end of the first week I received a notification to update to the new firmware. Once I updated to the new firmware the device basically went haywire. For almost a week it continuously disconnected and reconnected. It was very frustrating. Even once it seemed to have stabilized, the speed had become awfully slow for browsing the internet and browsing on my smartphone.

NETGEAR R6100 Dual Band WI-Fi Router

I have a lot of wireless devices in my household and I am always looking for better range and features from a Wireless Router. I decided to give the NETGEAR R6100 Wireless Router a try.

Short Summary:
This router is a continuation of a design change that all of the R series NETGEAR routers now seem to have. It is a desktop or shelf design that is NOT designed for wall mounting. It also does away with all of the annoying blinking lights that generally make a router a problem trying to locate in a home. Now, I am not saying that flashing lights cannot be impressive in an office atmosphere, but I hardly think that it makes a home look appealing.

The new design is basically a black rectangle with a NETGEAR emblem that is illuminated and a couple of very dim status lights at the very bottom. It is not very bright and it does blend in well. The emblem is much like that of Sony, Visio, and other television sets; after a while, you just stop noticing them.

This router works extremely well, has good coverage, has an excellent user interface, has a NETGEAR app that you can download for just about every device except Kindle Fire HD to monitor your network with and to share files with, will also use SAMBA to share either storage or a printer which has native support on Windows machines and on Apple computers, supports Kindle Fire and Apple devices (IPAD, ITOUCH) with a SAMBA app.

This unit has the same security hole that every other router I have tried has in that it allows you to log into the device via the wireless using just http instead of https which means that you are broadcasting your user id and password unencrypted over the air. To avoid this sign in only using one of the hard wire router ports.
