Fantastic Wireless Card!,

This review is from: NETGEAR WN511B RangeMax Wireless-N Notebook Adapter (Personal Computers)
I get awesome range on this. It's compatible with all of my computers. I travel a lot and I've noticed it has worked everywhere I have gone. I've been to many airports, hotels, colleges, restaurants, and private homes throughout Maryland, Florida, Puerto Rico, Georgia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania (just to name a few) and it has not failed me. It even worked between OS system changes. It worked well for my XP and Vista computers. Very reliable and durable. One of the best investments I've made.

Well, I finally learned the secret of how to get the best performance from the 11n wireless router: use this interface instead of the built-in one. Now, I can connect from the family room downstairs and get the full rated speed. Before, the best I could manage using the built-in Intel interface was half that. This interface connects on two separate channels to achieve the max. Setup was easy, even on Vista.

Very happy!! it's rock-solid in my older Dell laptop w/ XP. Previously used a Linksys wifi card that truly sucked--poor reception, frequently froze, constant rebooting, etc. Hoping the problem was just the wifi card, I rolled the dice and ordered this NetGear RangeMax.... and it worked GREAT from the moment it was installed. Seriously happy. It's ALWAYS online, grabbing signals from all the local hotspots, etc. Great low-cost fix for an aging laptop. NetGear rocks.

Had it for about a month. Installation was easy. Config is iffy. I toggled between using the supplied software and XP (built in interface) because with certain wireless access points it worked/performed well with one or the other. For the price, it was a great deal. Running on wireless N network getting a 130mb connection.

I now have bought three cards and two generations of this card. I use each of them weekly if not daily. I have never had a problem that lasted more than a few minutes.

We wanted to upgrade the "G" wireless adapters in our Toshiba laptops (windows XP home and professional) because the transmission speed with our old Linsys G was so slow it was impossible to watch some shows on the computer.
I made sure the product was compatible with the NETGEAR WRN3500 router we just purchased. I read almost every review on this product before purchasing. Thank you all for taking the time to share your experience and instructions. The reviews helped me understand that I had to disable (not uninstall) the current G wireless connections in each laptop or we would never get the up to 300 mbps claimed for the router. FYI - we get 130 mbps - which is a lot better than we got with the G connection. XP Professional: In order to disable the current G wireless connection, I followed Windows instructions on HOW TO DISABLE A DEVICE in "Device Manager". The steps were accurate and easy enough for even me to follow. The XP Professional had a factory installed Network adapter: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection. XP Home Edition: The XP Home Edition was older and had an Atheros wireless G network adapter installed by a computer tech a few years ago. Of the two, this one was the easiest to disable. I went to start/Programs and found the Atheros utility listed there by name, then followed the instructions on the HELP drop-down menu to disable (not uninstall).

It was shipped and arrived promptly. I purchased it as the old laptop didn't have a wireless card. The only internal that will fit is a G wireless adapter. Wanting a N I had the choice of USB or PCMCIA. the laptop has only two USB ports so I bought a PCMCIA even though I already had a USB N adapter. For some reason the USB adapter out performs it in detection of available connections. The Netgear sometimes won't find my router but it will dectect my nieghbors go figure?

This would probably be a very good Adapter if it would work with an AMD processor, which it will not & didn't state as much in the description. I purchased the Wireless Netgear Router that this Adapter was recommended for & it's much better & easier to set up than the Lynksys i was using. I'm giving it a 4 star only because the Notebook N Adapter didn't work with the AMD. It installed easily & would work for a few minutes, then freeze up my Notebook. I did call Netgear to confirm it wasn't compatible with the AMD.

If you have an older computer that either has no wifi or the wifi card has failed, this works to get you on the air.I have rehabilitated an older IBM ThinkPad and use this card to get wifi. Works well even in low signal areas. |
