The NETGEAR WN111 RangeMax Next Wireless-N USB 2.0 Adapter makes it simple for you to provide the highest speed wireless internet access to your computer, whether it is a desktop or notebook, letting you surf the web, check email, stream music, make internet phone calls, and get a leg up on opponents when playing online games.
The NETGEAR WN111 RangeMax Next Wireless-N USB 2.0 Adapter offers:
  • Wireless-N protocol for up to 300 Mbps throughput.
  • A small, portable size for easy portability.
  • Backwards compatibility with 802.11g and 802.11b wireless networks.

The WN111's small size makes it easy to bring wireless access with you. View larger.
Easy to Carry, Easier to Setup
About the size of a pack of gum, the WN111 is easy to throw into your purse or pocket. This small size was made possible by the Micro Antenna technology. The adapter supports Windows Vista and is also compatible with Windows XP and 2000 SP4. The WN111 features a USB 2.0 connection for wide compatibility and high speeds, and setup is as simple as installing the included software and plugging the device into a USB port. A removable port cover keeps the connector protected and clean from knocks, dirt and other potential harm.

Fast, Backwards Compatible, and Secure
The NETGEAR WN111 uses the Wireless-N protocol (based on 802.11n draft) for speeds up to 300 Mbps and a range ten times that of 802.11g adapters when paired with a NETGEAR Wireless-N Router. With this much speed and bandwidth, you can easily download large files, place Internet phone calls, download MP3s, stream video, and play online games -- all at the same time, without hiccups, and from farther away. Patented micro-antennas allows the WN111 to achieve this speed and range while maintaining its small form factor. You'll notice the difference immediately.

The WN111 is backwards compatible with 802.11g and 802.11b wireless networks so you'll be able to connect to any hotspot, and it improves network performance up to 50 percent when used with the older 802.11b/g networks.

You can feel secure about your information as the adapter supports Wi-Fi protected access (WPA2-PSK, WPA-PSK) and 64-bit and 128-bit WEP encryption for IEEE 082.11b and IEEE 802.11g. The included software makes managing different WEP passwords a breeze as you can set up different profiles for each location you frequent, saving yourself the trouble of having to type in encryption keys each time you connect to a hotspot you've already used.

The NETGEAR WN111 RangeMax Next Wireless-N USB 2.0 Adapter is backed by a 1-year warranty.

Love Prime Shipping. Works Great.

For Windows 8 and probably 7 users (I am an 8 user.) This will probably not autodetect and install drivers. So:
1. Insert the adapter into a usb port.
2. Put CD into drive.
3. Open your Device manager.
4. You will see an unidentified USB WLAN
5. Rightclick on it and choose update driver.
6. Browse and choose cd with drive in it.
7. It will install driver and you will be g2g.

When you need a wireless connection - or a faster one for cheap!

This review is written for non-technical people about improving the speed of their wireless access or getting on a laptop that does not have the capacity built in - For very little money! It reviews the utility of these devices and specifically discusses the features of this Netgear WN111v.2 Wireless-(draft-n) Adapter.

More and more people own laptop/notebook or the newer and even smaller "netbooks." The idea is pretty straight forward. A computer that is portable and can easily be taken from place to place, unlike our traditional desktop-type computers that are secured by both the sheer mass as well as by the multitude of wired connections they usually require to one place.

The evolution of portable technology led to what we call, descriptively, "wireless" connections. There are connections to wireless system that do not require wired connections. What they DO require is a wireless adapter, often built into to newer notebook and netbook units.

There are a couple of possible complications. One is having access from a portable computer that does not have a built-in wireless card and the other is having one, but wanting greater speed than the now older versions of wireless adapters allow. An inexpensive and entirely satisfactory solution to either issue is the Netgear WN111 v.2, available for about $60. new. I bought one of theseand am please to say that it works perfectly.

There are, essentially, four generations of wireless connections. They go by the shorthand designations of a,b,g and draft-n. "a" is the first and slowest and they increase in both speed and range up to the latest draft-n adapters and routers.

I chose Netgear because I have a Netgear router, and I thought it might be better matched than another brand. I installed the booster software while using an ethernet connection. I let the installer check for online updates, and all went well.

My laptop no long gets dropped signals from my Netgear router, and connection speed has increased from 54 Mbps to 130 or more Mbps. I can also see several more WiFi networks than before.

The chubby booster blocks the neighboring USB ports, so I put the booster on an extension cable. That has the added benefit of letting me move the booster to obtain the maximum signal.

Note: My modem and router are next to the TV and stereo receiver, and the router is hardwired to the iPod dock and Roku video box. When the TV and sound system were turned on and my husband used the remotes, my wireless computer would get dropped Internet signals. By attaching a long extension cable to the booster, I was able to put the booster up on a bookshelf, where it no longer gets interference from the stereo, CATV and TV remotes.

I went through two orders of the WN111. The first was DOA hardware issue. The second had software driver issues. I downloaded driver version: 3.5.0.7 from Netgear site. I spoke with Netgear technical support who admitted they are experiencing issues with many of their drivers not having proper Windows 7 support.

If you are running Windows 7, I'd recommend waiting for revised drivers from Netgear prior to purchasing. I'll be returning this product.

I have used this on four computers so far, Windows XP and Windows 7. I have tried others including the more expensive NETGEAR RangeMax WNDA3100 Dual Band Wireless-N Adapter and AirLink101 AWLL6075 Wireless N Mini USB Adapter. The NETGEAR WN111 outperforms both of them. My experience with the WNDA3100 is that is continually drops the connection. While connected it works well, but too many drops! On two side-by-side computers, on the 2nd floor of a building (router on 1st) the NETGEAR WN111 was consistently operating at 3-4 times the speed of the AirLink101. I have bought all of my NETGEAR WN111's for less than $10 a piece, refurbished. They have all worked. There are specific drivers that must be used in US, and also for XP and Win7. These are WN111v2_NA_SW2.0_setup or an older version wn111_setup_21_na (NA stands for North America) and a special Windows 7 version wn111v2_3.0_setup_win_7. These are easily found at NETGEAR and other sites. The program DriveMax recently found an update for one of these. I did not note the version of it. I am sure it can be easily found. I did notice an improvement in performance.

I purchased a new netgear router and this USB adapter. The router installed flawlessly on my Win 7 64 system BUT the adapter would not install. I even tried selecting the Update software option as my computer was still wired to the router. The installation software checked the web and said the CD had the most recent version. I called NetGear tech support and found out that the CD did not have the most recent version. Once I downloaded the new version, everything worked perfectly. Netgear support was patient and, after an hour on the phone, still waited for me to restart my computer, without the wired connection, and made sure I had a good internet connection. Netgear tech support is the reason I gave this 5 stars.
