I purchased this router to replace my Belkin wireless G router. When it works, it is FAST...unfortunately, it drops both wired and wireless connections at least once a day.
I am returning it and will search for something that actually works.

Router worked for around 6 months, then started to freeze, requiring a manual reboot. It will also often lose all the configuration, requiring you to reconfigure the router or restore a backup. Extremely annoying. I bought two of these units, the other one started failing after 9 months. I've owned NETGEAR products before which have caused issues but this will be my last.

Pros:
With the prior firmware, it's reliable but some functions do not work.
Good coverage and throughput.
###################
Con:
Many functions do not work as expected. Namely, "attached devices" does not register all devices on the network no all of the DHCP leases. The router does strange things with ICMP on the local lan. Basically, I cannot scan the network for live hosts. It seems to rewrite the ACK ICMP with the originating device's IP. DHCP reservation does not work at all.
###################
Other Thoughts
DD-WRT is not stable on the router.
SSH would be nice
###################
Conclusion:
I'm considering shelving this router and going back to my WNR3500 with Tomato. The only reason I upgraded was for the dual band availability. However, broken features cause a lot of issues with my network.

Bought one on line, loved it for three days and it died, completely, no power whatsoever. Returned it thinking it was a fluke, 10 days later new one died. Flaws in construction, cheaply made, going back to Linksys.

update 8/10/2012

Hello Netgear Team - I actually still have this router. It wasn't an option to return it to Amazon as it was past the time it was allowed.

I'm willing to work with you guys on this reliability issue. My firmware version is V1.0.0.22_1.0.17 which the router SW thinks is the latest and greatest (ie no new updates available).

4 SSIDs being used (broadcasted, in other words not hidden)
2 on 2.4 GHz (primary + guest) w/ WPA2-PSK security
2 on 5.0 GHz (primary + guest) w/ WPA2-PSK security

Issue is around wireless AP, no issues on wired interfaces

-----

Bought this back in February 2012. Made sure router had latest and greatest firmware. Tons of reliability issues from (1) connection drop outs (2) unable to connect and (3) throughput from iPhone4, iPhone 4s, iPad 2nd gen and Mac Book Pro (mid 2012 model). Problem shows up on either 2.4GHz or 5GHz using private or guest network. Worst router ever had and paid big bucks for it ($99)!

I like the router- I wasn't getting good reception in my home office from my AT&T U-Verse router and this was suggested as a solution. I set it up and now I can use wireless devices and a TV with Netflix streaming/ Youtube, etc...

My Brother wireless printer doesn't communicate with my computer however. I called brother to troubleshoot. Couldn't get the settings configured correctly. Called NetGear and they tried to sell me some service plan for $129. A short chat last night with NetGear was equally disappointing. Customer service department is one of the worst I have encountered in a while.

I was really happy with this router for about two years. Good speed, gigabit, decent UI.

Updated to the latest manufacturer firmware (V1.0.7.98NA), and now I literally have to be within 2 feet of the router to get a wireless signal. Absolutely unacceptable.

Worse, based on *dozens* of bad reviews on Netgear support, I have no faith in getting it replaced via RMA, or that the replacement won't just abruptly stop working one day either. I imagine I'll go with Asus, and not buy Netgear again. Just not worth the risk.

I bought this router planning to install DD-WRT, but when i got it I found out it was a version 3 which isn't supported. Initially I was planning on returning it, but after a week of excellent performance I'm very impressed with the stock firmware. It has all the functions that I need, and while I would still prefer DD-WRT, I am having a hard time wanting to return a router that offers better reception, speed, and stability than my old router. Not to mention the awesome simultaneous dual-band wifi. I will be able to get by just fine on the stock firmware until someone hacks some custom firmware on here. Can't speak to long term reliability yet of course, but fingers crossed!

I bought one of these in July of 2011 and have been using it as the only wireless access for two teenagers and two adults. It hosts both Ethernet and wireless devices on both 2.5GHz and 5GHz wireless networks. It is now June 2012 and in the last 2-3 weeks we have all been noticing that the wireless access has become very flaky. There are times when all devices get dropped and other times when devices appear connected but are unable to transmit/receive data. I haven't changed any settings lately, it just seems to have become unstable. I have power cycled the Netgear AP a couple of times but it doesn't seem to help. In a different part of the house I have another wireless network that passes its traffic back to this Netgear access point over Ethernet and find that this second wireless device is very stable and fast. It isn't a conflict between the two devices because they coexisted for several months without problems until recently. Also, I live in a rural area where my neighbors aren't very close so I don't believe there is any interference introduced by them. If you want a device that you can setup and forget, this may not be the one. I was very happy with it until recently and now I'm going to have to play with settings to try and figure out if it is a firmware configuration problem or if the hardware is just bad.

When this device first arrived it worked great. Strong signal, good interface, and streamed data perfectly. As an added perk this router allows you to change the firmware and install DDWRT on it and enable dozens of more features only found in very expensive wi-fi equipment. However, the radios that are built into this device have continued to get weaker and weaker and now only devices in the same room are able to connect to the router. Now I need to buy a new router. :(
