A freind of mine, Pastor-Teacher Max Younce, recommened this wonderful book to me...and I'm glad for it. Bowen's irenic, yet bold dismantling of the prevelent false gospel's of our day is refreshing and much needed. More importantly, the author does a masterful job of presenting in simple terms the one and only true Gospel. I heartily recommend this work to anyone who wants to know how to get to heaven, as well as to the believer who is engaged in the glorious task of soulwinning. You won't regret the puchase.
Give em Grace! Jimmy O'Rourke

Lordship salvation adherents always seem to talk about how "easy-believism" is so common today in the evangelical church, but it is NOT. Actually, what is prevalent today is lordship salvation! It's hard to find a clear presentation of the gospel that does not include unbiblical requirements like "turning from sin" and "following Jesus," - that's lordship salvation! Eternal life is a free and unconditional gift of God that can never be lost!
Michael Bowen shows us clearly what the gospel that Jesus and the apostles taught was, and then shows us how different it is from what popular preachers teach. He is to be commended for his non-judgmental approach towards these teachers, rightly pointing out that their message is wrong, not attacking them personally. He talks about Joel Osteen, Charles Stanley*, Pat Robertson, Rick Warren, John Hagee, Beth Moore, James Dobson, Jimmy Swaggart, Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron, Franklin Graham and Billy Graham. This same basic principle could be used to identify others who preach a false gospel message - such as John MacArthur, John Piper, and Paul Washer.
This book contains sound doctrine but also gives us a little insight into the life of Michael Bowen, including some rather personal details. I particularly loved his story about finding the baby bird when he was a young child.
Read this book if you've ever doubted your salvation, or are unsure of your eternal destiny. You can know that you are eternally secure! ___
*Bowen is probably not aware that Charles Stanley used to teach the gospel of grace. Stanley wrote a very good book defending eternal security and grace (Eternal Security: Can you be sure?), but unfortunately as of late he seems to have changed the way he has presented the gospel. It is now much like a false lordship salvation message.

If you aren't self-righteous and you read this it will open up your eyes and you'll start to see how almost every famous preacher you've ever known is a heretic.

Mr. Bowen is correct in dismantling charlatans such as Joel Osteen and Rick Warren, who preach a new-age feel good doctrine that pretends to be Christian. Unfortunately, Mr. Bowen's theology is barely any better. Like so many of the purveyors of what Dietrich Bonhoeffer called "cheap grace," Mr. Bowen does not require discipleship in order to be a Christian. He preaches in this book that all one must do to be eternally saved is to believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, died for our sins, rose from the dead, that whoever believes in Him will have eternal life. As we all know, there are many, many passages in the Bible stating that we are saved by faith in this manner. There are however, also many, many passages in the Bible stating that we are saved in order to do good works, that faith without works is dead, that Jesus will say he didn't know us if we don't feed the poor, clothe the naked, and do other good Christian works.
It is a mystery to me why Mr. Bowen and so many other preachers ignore so much of the Bible to preach a false gospel that makes the grace of Jesus Christ such a cheap gift. Of course our salvation is a free gift that we cannot earn, but to argue that we need to do nothing at all other than believe is not a doctrine that is from the Bible. These types of preachers are like men who have read health articles stating that all vegetables are good for you and then go around preaching that you don't need to eat any meat or grains. In other words, they are leaving out vast parts of the full message. I am not sure what is the motivation for this type of smorgasboard take-what-we-like-and-leave-the-rest theology. Certainly there is an appeal to thinking, "I don't have to do anything other than believe; Jesus has done all the rest.Read more ›
