I wasn't looking for a real fast computer but I wanted a solid state hard drive so it would boot up fast.

Portability, functionality, battery life, and cost were my priorities and I selected this laptop after considering other tablet (e.g. Surface Pro) and laptop (e.g. Lenovo Yoda) choices. Most of the good features have been posted elsewhere in these reviews: great cost, keyboard, quietness, quickness, lightness. I have the base 4GB/128GB 1.7 GHZ I3 CPU model. One confusion is that as far as I can tell, this "NEW! HP ProBook 13.3 Ultrabook" is exactly the same as the HP "Probook 430 G1" model also sold through Amazon from Tiger Direct for only $499. This model is in fact a "ProBook 430 G1".
Based on my experience so far, here's my 2 cents worth:
1. It comes with Windows 7 installed, but a Windows 8 disk is included. I installed Windows 8 and did the free upgrade to 8.1. One advantage is this completely reformats the SDD, freeing up 20 or 30 additional GB of Disk vs. the preformatted Windows 7 HP configuration. After Installing a full version of Office Pro 2013 I still have 76GB free of disk. Additionally I have 60 GB of cloud storage on Microsoft "OneDrive", which I highly recommend. I know there's a lot of negativity out there about Windows 8, and I don't recommend installing it unless you are comfortable with installing relatively complex applications. As far as using Windows 8.1, if you're willing to learn something new, it is great and it is worth it; keep in mind you can operate it in a mode which is basically equivalent to straight Windows 7. Note: You will need a USB DVD drive to use the Windows 8 disk (or any other CD or DVD disk). I got a Samsung drive for about $30 from Amazon.
2. With the base configuration - 4 GB RAM and the I3 CPU - it performs very fast and is fine for either Windows 7 or 8. Also boots up in 10 seconds.

When I needed a computer for school I was a little apprehensive. I thought I would buy a Chromebook for the cost however I am very pleased i went in for a little more power.

First off the big thing on this machine that will get some looks is the hard drive. It only has 126GB. For a laptop in today's world that is a little light--however it is not a gaming laptop that needs tons of memory.

What this is however is the meanest little web surfer and office utility computer I have ever had. With 16GB of RAM you would be hard pressed to confuse or slow down this computer with normal use. Also it is solid state so my battery life, shut down/start up, and install speeds are all phenomenal.

And that said, I use Blender for 3D modeling and it runs it like a champ. I am actually going to start using this over my 'gaming rig' for my game development projects.

It is very thin, light, and sturdy. I don't trust carrying it around too much without a slip case. I should have bought one when I got it but alwell. It is deceivingly tough though for how small it is.

Other great things about this laptop is the keyboard. Lots of laptops have pretty small keyboards. Having large hands this presents a problem typing out long grad school papers. Not the HP ProBook, it has a great full size board, spaced out keys, and it has a lovely action to the keys. I wouldn't say it is mechanical-ish but you feel a satisfying bounce to each stroke without any annoying clapping of clicking.

The display does seem a little dim. You can make it out in full sunlight but it isn't super impressive. However the resolution is amazing. The first thing I did, while downloading Steam, was to watch Netflix. It has a crystal clear display.

I highly recommend this computer. I have been using a laptop significantly heavier and without the solid state drive. This one runs faster and cooler and I love the difference in weight. This is an expensive computer but I loved the choices on big RAM and the SS drive. It's not a big hard drive, which makes me not love it (I have lots and lots of music and pictures I like to keep on my HD all the time, as well as big files). Also, the other reason I didn't mark "love it" is because it has an issue that if you pick it up on the left bottom while its in use and squeeze it (which you do when transporting it to another room), I have twice had the screen go to static and buzz. It has to be forced to restart but then seems fine upon startup. Great computer overall!

This HP Pro Book is fast and light! It looks sleek. The only thing to keep in mind is that you may want to uninstall some of the HP software when you receive the laptop so that it doesn't drag the performance. I've used Lenovo and Acer in the past, and this HP laptop is far faster and sleeker. Just what I was looking for, five stars for HP.

This version, with 128GB SSD, is a Windows version of a MacBook Air. It's light, it's fast, and it is definitely powerful enough to run Office and business apps. Note however that ProBooks like this often come with a suite of HP security tools designed for IT managers to deploy and maintain computers on their corporate networks. If you are buying one machine, and not 100, then I would encourage you to remove the HP software, or better yet, restore the system to a flat Windows 7 using the included media.
