There is no doubt about it. New Skin stinks. It smells up the room when you use it and hours later you can still smell it. But it works. I often have small cuts and abrasions and since I'm a swimmer I try to avoid going to the pool when I've got an open cut. New skin fills the gap and keeps your scrape protected until it heals over. I like it better than a Band-Aid because a Band-Aid can trap moisture and leave your skin white and clammy underneath and takes a long time to heal.

While I could wish this product had a better smell, I'm willing to deal with the stink because it works. 4 stars.

I forgot why I bought it,I didn't know it would be such a big help. The day before my birthday, I got a big zit in the middle of my right cheek..I manage to pop it out(don't do that), because I didn't want it to be big, red and swollen. I applied two coat on top of the zit, after it dry, I apply foundation and concealer on top of it, so that the makeup wouldn't have direct contact to the wound. It stayed put all day and all night long, even the makeup remover couldn't take it off..2 days later, the dead skin came off, my scar completely fade away!!! I was so amazed...couldn't believe my eyes..This is a must have for girls who have pimples and use makeup, this definitely help to keep makeup away from making the pimples getting worse..

Just like the commercial says, New Skin works best on areas of the body where regular Band-Aids work poorly, are ugly or are likely to get exposed to water and fall off. Faces, fingers, chins, etc. In this, it's pretty irreplaceable: in the old days, people used Super Glue for the same purpose, except Super Glue has several disadvantages: for one, it dries exothermically, which means it heats up as it dries. Feels pretty awful inside a wound. Super Glue also doesn't have any antiseptic properties, so if you use it to seal up an uncleaned wound, you're asking for a nasty infection.

New Skin is basically an antiseptic, wound-safe version of Superglue. It stings like hell when you put it on, but that's because of the antiseptic ingredients (benzethonium chloride 0.2% and good-old fashioned ethyl alcohol). While you should always clean your wounds before applying New Skin, it's not going to seal in germs like some have said (unless your wound's packed with dirt or something). I keep a bottle in my tool box for when I'm doing woodworking projects (lot of little cuts and scrapes) and I've never needed running water and soap. Just dab it on and go.

It also stinks to high heaven, a bit like burning rubber, even after application, which may be an issue for some people.

Other than that, it works wonders and is pretty much in a category of wound closure all on it's own, somewhere between band-aids and full-on stitches. A tip for application is to only put on a light coat; the more you add, the more likely it is to peel itself off.

I have been using this product since I was a kid, as my mom used it before me. She is a hairstylist, I am an electrician, but regardless of occupation, I can't imagine a time, (on appropriately sized wounds), that this product isn't perfect.

Does it sting? Yessir it does. I use it on wounds that are probably supposed to be to big for it, so believe me, I have dealt with some stinging. However, as some other reviewers have said, not only does the stinging subside relatively quick, but with it goes the original pain.

Does it stink? Eh, I guess, but when a product works, it's forgiven. Meet someone who is not the most attractive person in the world and then fall in love with them, it might not make them a beauty queen, but they look better all the time to you.

Simply put, this product, when used correctly, works. my recommendations are as follows.

1. Put this product on as you are watching your evening TV. This will accomplish three things, one, it allows you to apply and let dry without thinking about it, two, while you're sleeping, it seems to setup extra strong. It will not just rub off throughout the night, and with no hand washing or anything going on, it really has a chance to take. Finally, you at least have that first overnight period of healing under your belt, and you will often times be amazed at what that small amount of time can accomplish.

2. Apply New Skin generously. As it settles it will thin out, but how thin do you need it to be? I apply two, sometimes three coats.

Using these two tips, I have had wounds heal incredibly fast.

I am very active in hiking and camping and wanted something that worked better when it got wet or the wound was on a bendy spot of my body. I bought several brands of liquid skin products such as 3M Nexcare spray (felt like water, hurt like water... meaning not... wiped off like water, and worked about as well as water, and Bandaid Liquid Bandage sticks which are expensive per use. I wanted something cheaper than a buck a scratch to use. Sometimes when outdoors one incident can lead to a bunch of scratches like from a blackberry vine or thorny brush or even something as stupid as stomping on a dead tree limb to break it up for firewood and having one end whip up and nail your leg. Dabbing a bunch of Q-Tip like sticks at 50 cents a piece all over a bunch of scratches was not what I was looking for.

Then I bought New Skin and when I first tried it I thought OMG this stuff stinks on ice and stings when you first put it on. I was going to toss it and look for my next product to try when I noticed it didn't sting very long. Then I noticed it stayed on well even after showers. Then after a few days I noticed it really protected the wound and it healed very nicely with no scar and this was while camping and hiking with lots of dirt and bushes. Now I use it all the time and tell people about how great it works and just to ignore the smell and sting when you first put it on, because afterward the results are great! One bottle lasts a long time and I use it often. I mentioned it to my mom who said "oh yeah I used that years ago on my thumb to prevent blisters when bowling."

So, the cons? As mentioned, the smell and the sting.
