Bought this scale to use for buying postage and mailing small packages from home. So far, I haven't had any problems.

OUT OF THE BOX

Assembly was easy, just put the top of the scale on. The unit comes with a mail tube holder and letter/envelope holder, though I don't use either. They just sit on top of the unit to keep things from rolling or sliding off. This can be useful, I just haven't had the need.

OPERATION

Push the button to turn it on and then weigh the object. It's that easy! It can weigh in grams, pounds, kilograms, pounds and ounces or just ounces. To change the unit of measure, press the button on the side of the unit.

There is a hold button to keep a reading when I remove the object from the scale. I haven't found any reason to use that feature, but I suppose some people might find it useful.

The scale turns off after awhile, which can save batteries, though I use a power adapter.

DETACHABLE DISPLAY

This feature is useful if one is weighing a large box which obscures the display. To detach the display, the scale must be turned over and two hands must be used. It's a clumsy procedure, so not something anyone would want to go back and forth on. Either the display stays on or off. Going back and forth is too time-consuming.

ACCURACY

I have found that this unit is as accurate as I need it to be for Paypal postage. Haven't had any problems as of yet.

UPDATE: This scale comes in both silver and black. I have black, which blends in with my office clutter better.

I bought this scale to ship items on eBay. I wanted a scale that was sensitive enough for light items (<5 ounces), but also heavier items (>5 pounds). I think I found it.

Pros:
-displays weight in pounds, ounces, grams, kgs.
-easy to use, easy to read.
-pretty accurate, +/- 0.1 ounce.

Cons:
-doesn't come with adapter!! And uses 4 C batteries. Who has C batteries at home?
-That's 0.1 ounce difference can be pretty important. I had a package that said it was 3.0 ounce on the scale, but turned out to be 3.1 at the post office. I didn't trust the scale to be exactly perfect, so I took that into consideration, and suggest that other people do the same. For the most part, i have no issues with sending out packages because they usually aren't that light and 0.1 ounce doesn't make a difference.


I read other reviews for shipping scales before buying this one and found that this model had the least bad reviews. I read through many reviews and some people say that the adapter that is sold separately doesn't fit well. I haven't tried it myself since another reviewer said that the scale was inaccurate when plugged in, but accurate when using batteries.

I purchased this from TheSupplyCabinet, a reseller of Amazon, and was very happy that it was shipped so quickly.

The 55 pound capacity is sufficient for almost any kitchen task.
The platform is generously sized.
The faceplate has a nice long cord so you can snake it out from under big bowls or plates.
Operation is simple.
The gradations are small enough to work accurately in ounces or grams.
I don't have a single negative to report.

Oh, and you can use it as a postal scale -- it includes a couple of 'cradle' attachments. The one for weighing envelopes keeps them vertical, and there's a special cradle for mailing tubes to keep them from rolling off. Very thoughtful.

UPDATE: This scale comes in black and silver. I have black. I find silver too shiny for my taste.

Some of the Ultraship 55's also come with the adapter. You must figure that into the cost when comparing prices. Apparently, this listing is for a silver model without an adapter.

This scale was much better than I anticipated. It is very easy to use, very accurate and is very well made. It is very simple to operate and easy to change the weight reading. With a simple push of a button, you can change from pounds or ounces to kilos or grams. It accurately measures small letters or large packages, it's great! It operates on either batteries or an AC adapter and is very solid in it's construction. My favorite part about this scale is that it zeros itself every time you turn it on so you can put a basket on top and turn it on and then pile on everything that you want to weigh and it will give you the weight of only what's in the basket. I highly recommend this scale.

Nice simple scale. Very small but, can handle anything up to 55 lbs. One thing I didn't know was the AC plug didn't come with it. I wish it did. I'd have given a 5 star if it did.

I guess I've had this scale almost a year now. It's fantastic for use as a diet scale. It is sturdy, sufficently large and the display is easy to see.

I had been using a 5lb [...] USB connected postage scale. I dropped the service but continued to use the scale. When I reformatted my C drive, I lost the software and could not find it without resubscribing to [...]. I saw this scale and it looked like it had more features than the [...] scale except that it did not calculate postage. The postage calculation was not a big issue for me so I gave this item a try. I love it. It is easy to use, weighs in oz, lbs, or grams and kgs, and is very consistent and accurate. I highly recommend it for postal and kitchen uses.

I have been using this for a month and i find that it works great and that it is a lot easier to use than other scales and much less complicated if you have to change the weights.
you just push a button.
it lights up the weight and it will remove the weight of the box and everything.
Sounds simple, but great for someone who needs things to be simple and to just work.
UPDATE!
I have had this for awhile..lost it to a house fire..the only thing that finally killed it was being doused with tons of water....and..i replaced it..with the same scale...

Use with Endicia for almost a year. Four stars because inexpensive. So easy to just buy another one. And looks like the ones the pc postage companies are pushing too. Issue #1 - the AC Adaptor plug never fit snuggly. Tried shaving off the AC plug to see if that would help, but it wasn't a "gap/fit" issue. So we just took the scale apart, soldered the wires and heatwrapped it. Now I have a fixed AC cord which is fine with me. Issue #2, this month (after about 8 months of use) the scale would not turn on. Batteries wouldn't power it. Basically, the contacts got blocked by the cable that is housed in the digital display part. So just unscrew it and wiggle the cables around with something to get them out of the way of the contacts. Problem fixed...whew! We use the scale almost daily for our business so waiting for another scale would have meant paying more for postage at the PO. I would buy with confidence as the black one is even less expensive than this silver one. Another plus is being able to detach the display...helps with big packages. Oh...don't expect an expensive looking scale...it's low budget screenprinting. But hey beats paying over $70 for same thing elsewhere.
