NFL 2K also features a full-league fantasy draft, a tutorial mode, extensive game and season statistics, and excellent play and player creation options. Even its play-by-play and color commentary surpass other games on the market. All 31 NFL teams are included as are most of the real players, though each team does have a few generic guys with names like "Seahawks WR." Not surprisingly, some offseason transactions are not reflected in this game--namely, the Barry Sanders situation in Detroit. But he's in this game, so fire up NFL 2K and see Barry run again. Better yet, create a custom player designed to fit your style and sign him to your favorite team's roster.
NFL 2K does not make any special use of the optional Visual Memory Unit, apart from saving your game and roster data. In fact, if this game has a flaw, it's that a single saved game fills up nearly an entire VMU. So if you want to save your game info in NFL 2K but don't want to save over other saved games, you will need another VMU.
If you have even a passing interest in football, this is a must-buy, since it is clearly the new standard by which all future football--and other sports--video games will be judged. --Michael Ryan

A Great Start With a Few Problems,

This game has the best graphics of any sports game I've ever seen, and it's extremely fun to play against a friend one on one. When playing in cold weather, each player's breath can be seen, which is just one of the awesome things you'll see here. A drawback is that you can't play a franchise mode like on Madden 2000, and this is a must now for die-hard football gamers. NFL 2K is better than Madden 2000 despite having less features because it simply feels more real. In Madden 2000, use the instant replay on pass receptions to see just how comical it looks when a pass just drops into a receiver's body without his hands moving, or his eyes focused on the ball. It looks as though you will not find this type of blocky and sometimes unrealistic gameplay on the Dreamcast. On NFL 2K, instant replays reveal true one-handed catches, balls going right through a receiver's outstretched hands, and other types of situations that look real. The running game in NFL 2K could use a little improvement, but overall this game is just pure fun and reality for anyone who enjoys playing football video games.

Simply The Best,

The best sports game ever. Playability and season play are exceptional. Graphics and realism are impeccable. Truly a great addition to any sports fans' collection. There are however a few glitches as are to be expected from a first generation sports game. These include: Minor Audio problems: Some sound effects repeat and tend to last for the duration of the game. Rule problems: Kick offs out of bounds always place the receiving team at the 40. Even if the kick goes out in a superior position for the receiving team. Onside kick violations result in a re-kick! Bounderies are sometimes questionable. A receiver may appear to get two feet in or to be forced out by the defender, however these are ruled incomplete. Fair catches may be called by one computer player, but another catches and runs with the ball. Even with these problems I have gotten more enjoyment out of my NFL 2K than any other game I've owned. Most entertaining footbal video game to date,

NFL2K is a very FUN game to play, with excellent graphics and sound. However, some things I'd like to see in future versions:1. Career mode either with NFL team or a custom team. 2. Ability to develop players as the season progresses. 3. Ability to see player skills breakdown during the game (e.g. QB rating in accuracy, power, running speed, etc), and not just an overall rating. 4. Play routes on the VMU and not just the play names. 5. Ability to ground the ball to stop the clock after a quick lineup without calling an audible or timeout. 6. Varying NFL season schedules (currently always the same, unless you chose fantasy football mode) These are just minor criticisms that do not really affect the playability of the game, but I think would increase the longevity of the game's appeal.
