We recently put a preview copy of the game through its paces and immediately saw some major improvements over NFL 2K. Many of the bugs that hampered the earlier installment, such as the second-player difficulty in calling a time out, have been fixed. Also, we found no lag problems in a half dozen tests of the game's Internet mode. Sega is claiming that gamers who play NFL 2K1 on SegaNet (its online gaming service) will have no latency problem.
NFL 2K1's running attack has been tweaked, and a juke option has been added. Beyond that, backs have been given real-world balance as they make their way through the line of scrimmage. For instance, they shift their weight and put their shoulders down to gain yardage and deliver a blow instead of waiting to be tackled. The quarterback animations have been redone, too, providing smoother movements when they tuck the ball in and fake a run or unleash a bomb to a streaking receiver.
Gamers will find the same easy-to-navigate play-calling menus with some new plays on offense and defense. A new franchise mode allows you to play general manager and draft, trade, and release players to free up money under the salary cap.
In terms of who will win the Lombardi Trophy for sports game of the year, it looks like Sega's NFL 2K1 will be a good bet in the office pool. --Todd Mowatt

Where are all the glitches, like in NFL 2K???,

WOW...what a game!!! It's far improved compared to last years game! What I love about it is the Franchise Mode, which allows you to coach and GM a team through multiple seasons. You have to deal with rookies, signing/releasing players and even retiring them! Sega finally got the idea from PSX's Madden games. The graphics on this game are still awesome. There are also more animations and player sounds. Everyone keeps talking about the improved running in this game, but I think it's too improved! I can easily go over 10 yards per carry, and that's no fun! The best new feature on the game is the Internet play!! It's great, I can now play with up to 8 people across the country, simultaniously! What's better then that is that you can update rosters and players stats, as the weeks go by, onto your VMU. Now that's amazing!!!! This game is one of the best Dreamcast cames that I've ever owned. What's surprising is that I haven't run into any glitches yet. Remember last year's NFL2K....oh whata nightmare!! Supposedly, they fixed a lot of the glitches on this years edition. After buying a very, veRY, VERY DISAPPOINTING Sega sports game (you all know what game I'm talking about), I hesitated on buying NFL2K1. It turned out that they have made another superior sports game! When Madden 2001 comes out next month for PSX2, they have some competition in store for them!!!

Can a game get better than "This"?,

For everyone who has played NFL2K, this review is for YOU! Did you love the game but still feel cheated with the lack of runing options and a solid AI? Well, your wait is over! You have NO excuse for NOT buying this game. Not only can you challenge unknown people on the internet, you can actually play against the computer and have a worthy adversary! Yes Virginia, there IS a running game! No longer can you wing the ball deep and depend upon a "Hail Mary" to score. No, this game has depth. You run to set up the pass. Or...if you are Kurt Warner and the St Louis Rams, you pass to set up the run. Almost everything you hated about NFL2K has been corrected. You can actually run for 100 yrds and pass for 300yrds while your defense can intercept passes and stuff the run. The basic gameplay is the same but the nuances have been honed to razor sharpness. If you like football, then BUY this game! If you love football, then BUY this game! If you just watch football, then BUY this game. Heck, even if you HATE football, buy this game. You will learn to love it! I have owned every system from the original Atari thru the Dreamcast. And i can honestly say, without exception, this is the BEST football game i have ever played. And once you master the computer, just TRY it online!!!

Well, let me just start off by saying that I recently sold my N64 along with some games in order to afford myself a Playstation 2 for the sole purpose of playing Madden 2001, but after playing Madden at Circuit City and Comp USA for hours, I realized that I was not as impressed as I thought I would be with this game. The commentary is pathetic, and the gameplay is mediocre at best. What did i do? I bought a Dreamcast Sports pack with NFL 2K and NBA 2K. Even NFL 2K is a much more exciting game than Madden, and it is over a year old!! Now, let me tell you about the NFL 2K1 experience!!! Hands down, this is the best football game on any console. I have not even tried out all of the options yet (e.g. online play, franchise mode)and I can already put this game in a category of it's own. Speedy game play and lifelike player models make this game the cream of the crop...unlike the sluggish gameplay and bug-eyed models of Madden 2001. Yes, Madden 2001 is the best MADDEN football game ever made, but if you want to have the best virtual football experience possible, save yourself a lot of wasted time and effort by purchasing the best (NFL 2K1).
