4.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST FOOTBALL GAME OUT THERE!!!!!!
I have, up until 2 months ago, never liked football games. So many plays, confusing, smart CPU, etc. I bought my xbox 2 months ago. I thought I should give football another try. I have played Madden 2003, NFL Blitz 2003, NFL Fever 2003, NFL Gameday 2003 and of course, Sega NFL 2K3. I thought Blitz was just plain dumb. Gameday looks like a early 90's game, and boring...

versus
3.0 out of 5 stars fun game but does lack in some areas
dont get me wrong i enjoy playing this game. but it does lag in some areas. passes have a lobbing quality so that means a lot of time for you (and the DB) to get to the area the pass will land. this is annoying. try selecting 'maximum passing' option, but it doesnt help much. another is u can only change your depth chart permanently, meaning u cant change personnel in...

Fever is coming on strong but still has something, I don't know what it is, that it really doesn't let you enjoy it. Madden and Sega 2k3 are pretty similar. You can "ask" madden what play to run. On Sega you got to tap the A twice to select a random play. Graphics are better by far on Sega. Fun to play? Sega slightly above madden. Comments, options, practice, sound?, Sega gets my vote. On a scale of 1 to 10 this are my final answers. Blitz gets a 5. Gameday gets a 5. Fever gets a 7.5. Madden gets a 9. And Sega 2K3 gets a 10+. Trust me. Buy Sega 2K3. Plain and simple...THE best NFL game out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazon is misinformed, September 27, 2002

According to Amazon's information, this game is 1-2 players, recievers cannot be sent into motion and passes are slow and lofty. All three are untrue. This game is a four player game, receivers can be sent into motion with the tap of the left stick, and using maximum passing, one can get both bullets and lobs. And for people who say its too difficult to catch passes, the catch feature can be increased in the options:difficulty menu. I have found the game to be much better with this change. It was amazing before, and I can't put it down now. No doubt, the best football game on the market. If u aren't sure, maddden, 2k3, or fever, there is no question. Get 2k3

4.0 out of 5 stars If it's in the game, it's REALLY in this game, September 7, 2002

This game is nothing like Madden from EA sports. It is much, much more realistic than this years madden. These are some of the things I noticed in NFL 2K3 that I never saw in Madden. Unlike in Madden, blindly throwing the ball 20 yards down field results in many interceptions, cornerbacks and linebackers bump and check recievers to slow down routes, and good veteran offensive tackles will do anything to protect the qb, including holding and literally rolling into the rushers to take them out. You can also setup defensive matchups. If you want Urlacher to cover Faulk out of the backfield he can do it. The defensive AI is so good, sometimes I find myself preparing gameplans against teams like the Bears and Steelers. Good AI really makes trick plays that much more fun because it's that much harder to execute them prefectly against a smarter enemy.

In terms of being better, I think defense and franchise mode are the only categories where 2K3 is better than Madden. Coincidentally, these two areas are specifically what hard-core gamers critique the most. And that's just it, it's a hard-core version of football. It doesn't have any of the fun new play modes that keep me playing Madden way past the Superbowl. And 2k3 is also really hard on higher settings. On the lower settings it's a cake-walk like any other football game so it's no fun.

If you don't know how zones work or how different line techniques affect a game you will probably get lost like me.In Madden, the play call mode starts with several basic formations, like 4-3 or nickel, and then expands upon that. The playcalling mode with 2K3 is probably what it loooks like in a real play book. There are dozens of so-called "basic" formations, and then there are dozens of versions of those formations. Many formations look exactly the same, but one might have a blitzing safety while the other has the safety dropping back into coverage. Many times I have accidentally called a nickel blitz when the offense has a 5-WR package and have been burned by deep passes to open recievers. Also, I think you have to play as the quarterback in games. I really like to run the ball, but I don't like passing because of the constrictive view of the field. In Madden, you can call a play and let the AI do the passing while you do the running. I haven't found a way to let the AI take over the qb duties.

2K3 is better than madden in terms of providing a real football experience. If Sega could just make more intuitive play-call menus and add just a couple extra game play modes it would be alot more enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sega does it again., November 1, 2002
This review is from: NFL 2K3 (Video Game)
I started out as a fan of the 2k series back on the Dreamcast. NFL2k was the biggest factor in my decision to pre-order a Dreamcast. I stayed faithful to the series up until the release of the X-box and decided to give Fever a chance. I was happy with it, and felt it was the graphical superior of the three football games that launched with the X-box. Then the second-generation games arrived and I decided to go back to the 2k series, and boy am I glad I did. NFL 2k3 is the greatest football game to date. Nothing even comes close to the depth and quality this game possesses. I rented the big three, Madden, Fever and 2k3 before making my decision. NFL 2k3 surpasses the competition in almost every aspect. If you are looking for a deep accurate realistic football game go with NFL 2k3. The graphics are unreal, the sound and commentary is outstanding, and the depth of the franchise mode is beyond fulfilling. Do yourself a favor and buy this game if you have any interest in playing Football on your X-box.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Football Game for Xbox!, October 11, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: NFL 2K3 (Video Game)
NFL 2K3 is awesome. Although NFL Fever is also my next favorite, 2K3 wins. The graphics are great, and every player has their own face. You can also load your roster from the College 2K3 and put in the draft. This game is really realistic. I recomend you get this football game then every other football game! Madden? Don't say such a word! Madden doesn't even come close! Sega also did a good front box illustration. We don't need big bad Randy Moss. Brian Urlacher has taken stage!

i have been a Madden fan since the 16-bit days, but must say that this years Sega game beats it in most ways. contrary to some beliefs, i think 2K3 is a more accurate simulation of the nfl than even Madden's is. and above that, it is simply more fun to play. it's a harder game to master than Madden's is, but when you do master it, it is definitely worth it. only reason i haven't mentioned NFL Fever, is because it is much too easy to score. it's more of an arcade game than a simulation game like the previous two. so if you want the BEST nfl experience for the BEST system, get NFL 2K3 on the XBOX!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great but not perfect., September 20, 2002
This review is from: NFL 2K3 (Video Game)
This is the best football video game in town. The graphics, gameplay, and presentation are all fantastic. The game has been slowed down some from the Dreamcast days and has a more "simulation" feel to it now. But it still moves faster then Madden giving you a better feeling of control. The commentary continues to leave the other football franchises in the dust and the replays are superb. The main gripe for me is with the collision detection which has always been spotty in this franchise. Seeing arms and legs pass through another player just shouldn't happen. Watching your QB walk through the FB while walking up to the Center is inexcusable. And sometimes the players look like they are floating on the turf. The menus still are a little akward too. But this is the game to get if you are hardcorp about your football. And this the only title that is online on both the PS2 and Xbox.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sega delivers the BEST football game ever this year!, November 27, 2002
By
This review is from: NFL 2K3 (Video Game)
One of the most anticipated NFL games of this year has finally come, so after hearing the huge buzz for this game I decided to buy it ... and it was worth the wait! With the addition of the ESPN license it made the game that much better!

This game doesn't take that much getting used to because the controls are so good that every button is in the right place. The menus are one of the best looking and are easy to use because of the ESPN license. The franchise mode is the deepest ever. I can't describe it with words. Just play it and you'll know that the gameplay is outstanding!

NFL 2K3 has the best commentary of any sports game. The commentators' lines are barely ever repetitive. The crowd sounds realistic, especially when they chant a player's name. The commentators sound like your watching a live ESPN television show. Also, the grunts of the players sound so realistic that when they get hit, it sounds like he really got hit unlike other games where it sounds a computer's engine is busted.

The graphics in this game are wicked! The faces actually look like their real-life counterpart. The stadiums are beautifully modeled that you might confuse the video game one to a picture of the real-life stadium. You have to see it to believe it! Oh, and the animations for this game are phenomenal! You can tell that Visual Concepts really worked hard to make this game the prettiest ever!

This game is the most fun I have had playing a football game because it feels like your playing a game on ESPN, and then seeing it on SportsCenter for the weekly wrap-up. Also the game is Xbox Live compatible, so you'll be playing this game till NFL 2K6!

This is the best sport game ever, and I am a basketball fan and was thinking I would just buy this game and wait until NBA 2K3, but I'll be playing this game long after NBA 2K3 comes out. Go pick up this game - it's worth the money. You wont be disappointed.

In past years the 2k series from Sega has dragged a little behind Madden. This year, Madden has fallen. NFL2k3 is the most complete, realistic, and just plain fun football game you can buy. It's head-and-shoulders above Fever 2003, and a significant improvement over Madden 2003. Everything Madden does, NFL2k3 goes one step further. If you love football, NFL2k3 is your game, period. If you doubt, go to any game review web page and read the reviews on both games. I have yet to see Madden outscore NFL2k3.
