5.0 out of 5 stars Bob from Gettysburg, PA
This is an awesome collection. If you are a Steelers fan, then this is a must have for your collection. Many critics have raved about the NFL America's Game Series as a whole and with good reason. Whether you liked the Steelers of the 70's or the most recent 2005 edition, this is a collection you must have in your Steelers video library. The DVD videos cover not just...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great set but NOT WIDESCREEN!!!!!
The details for this set are WRONG - it is not in WIDESCREEN format! Amazon's info is usually spot on, so I'm really aggravated that the info was wrong this time (especially since I bought this for a Father's Day gift for my husband who is a huge Steelers fan). This is no different than the same set I bought over a year ago. It says right there on each individual DVD case...

The DVD videos cover not just the 5 Super Bowls the Steelers won but all of the stories and events that accompanied the Steelers Championship seasons. Including significant events in Steelers history like the immaculate reception, City of Champions, Steelers Hall of Fame Wing, great Steelers player profiles like Running Backs Franco Harris, Rocky Blier, & Jerome Bettis, The Steel Curtain, Blitzburgh, the Tackle, Takin the BUS Home, and lots...lots more. There are many bonus great Steelers extras on each DVD. Even those these Steelers video tributes were created on DVD (instead of High Definition Blu-Ray or HD DVD) the quality is still high class on your HD environment with many video scenes created from low definition sources from the 70's before digital age. If you are a true Steelers fan, then you have to get this DVD collection.

I enjoyed this 5 dvd set of the Steelers. On each dvd you have 3 or 4 steelers(Andy Russell,Franco Harris,Joe Greene,Lynn Swan,Dwight White,Mike Wagner,Randy Grossman,Rocky Bleier,Mel Blount,John Banaszak,John Stallworth,L.C.Greenwood,Jerome Bettis,Joey Porter,Bill Cowher) talking about that year and some of the games as you watch some game footage. Each dvd has a few extras. These dvd's are fun and enjoyable to watch. Each dvd comes in nice slim case with a picture of that years Super Bowl ring on the front. The back has pictures of the Steelers interviewed on that dvd.All 5 dvd's come in a nice box you see pictured on Amazon. This is a nice edition to the Steeler dvd's I already have.If you are an old Steeler fan like me I think you will enjoy this box set.

These are the same as the award-winning series on NFL Network but without the commercial interruptions. You also get a few little extras on each DVD which the true fan will enjoy. The video and sound production is excellent, and the script writing really brings out the emotion of the games. Overall, for under six dollars per DVD this has to be one of the best bargains in terms of a football collection that you will actually want to watch multiple times over the years.

This is not the typicaL highlight dvd. It goes into more depth of the personalities of the 70's Steelers. Jack Lambert was afraid of snakes, John Stallworth would get Terry Bradshaw donuts in order to get him to throw to him, John Banazacks father almost disowned him for signing with the Steelers being he was a Browns fan. There are more in depth interviews about the games and many extras. A must for any Steelers fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Steeler Dominance!!!, December 14, 2007

This Steeler's Super Bowl collection from NFL Films is essential for any fan that bleeds black and gold. All the former player commentaries and DVD extras are excellent. I wish there were more. Rocky Blier retelling Coach Noll's "motivational" stories on the 1978 DVD will definitely make you laugh and Joey Porter is great as he talks about the 2005 season. I only wish Terry Bradshaw and Coach Noll had contributed some commentary because they are glaringly absent from all the championship season DVDs.

It says right there on each individual DVD case that it is "standard version presented in a format preserving the aspect ratio of its original television exhibition" (which means ugly full screen format). However, the episodes that currently can be seen on NFL Network are in widescreen, so why the heck they can't sell a set in widescreen format is beyond me. Thank goodness we have DirecTV with HD and a DVR - I can record the shows off NFL network, transfer them to DVD myself, and replace the crappy full screen format discs that came with my original set (I'm returning this one!). That being said, the America's Game series is wonderfully done, and this is a must-have for any Steelers fan!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the actual Super Bowls rebroadcasted, January 11, 2010

This DVD is more worthy than the 2 stars allow for; it is, after all, well-done. I put the 2 stars to get the attention of anyone reading the reviews--like I myself did--to see if this was an actual rebroadcasting of the super bowls. I read quite a few reviews and did not see that mentioned. It also was not mentioned or even hinted at (to my recollection) on the Amazon description or on the box description when I saw it at B&N.

I'm sure this is a great product, but having the games in their originally broadcasted format is the only way to really feel like you were there, and it's so technologically feasible that there's just no excuse.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Definitive and Comprehensive Collection of the Five Time Champions, June 26, 2008
This review is from: NFL America's Game - The Super Bowl Champions - Pittsburgh Steelers Collection (DVD)
Being a steelers fan since kindergarten in 1976, I am dating myself, this is a truly enjoyable look into the team that I have loved and followed for the past thirty years. I give it a five star rating for the way it was produced and pakaged. I like the use of former players from the glory days offering incite, in particular Mike wagner and Mel Blount, who were my favorite players when I was growing up. It's also great to see recently retired coach Bill Cowher show a softer side when he comments on his family suffering through all of the disappiontments of those five losses in the Championship games. The loss in Super Bowl XXX was particularly difficult to swallow.
If there is one disappointment with the disc, it's the absence of any perspectives from Bradshaw for the first four disc and Hines Ward, not having a spot on the interviews for Superbowl XL, true Joey Porter had a spectacular playoff performance, but it was Wrad who was the mvp and has become the face of the franchise following Bettis' retirement. That said, this disc is proudly shelved among all of my other Steeler discs and collectives.
This is a must have for any true fan of the Black and Gold...

4.0 out of 5 stars Steelers' Collection, August 16, 2009
This review is from: NFL America's Game - The Super Bowl Champions - Pittsburgh Steelers Collection (DVD)
I have been a long-term Steeler fan getting involved in fanatacism at a distance (Australia) sometime in the late seventies.

I gave this a four-star rating rather than five-stars because I have never been to a game and have limited exposure to the NFL. What I like about this series is not just the plays (and outcomes) but also the stories told by the players throughout each disc. It provided, for those of us who did not have access back then to the day-to-day reporting/commentary of the teams, a history we otherwise would not have experienced and enjoyed.

Americans, and Steeler fans familiar with the teams might want to see more field play than oral history.

Nonetheless, my thirteen-year old son and I have watched the discs together without any loss of interest time and again.

The quality of the recording and content is quite good. No sound or visual defects.

I would recommend this series to Steelers fans and also to fans interested in the evolution of team rivalry and the path to the Superbowl.

5.0 out of 5 stars NFL'S Greatest Dynasty, February 17, 2009
This review is from: NFL America's Game - The Super Bowl Champions - Pittsburgh Steelers Collection (DVD)
The America's Game series is awesome. And, not just the Pittsburgh Steelers. If you're a fan of any team, these DVD'S are a must have. Between the words of the players and the incredible product, known as NFL Films, you have a winning formula. I'm also looking forward to the next America's Game DVD, featuring the 2008 Steelers. "The Six Time Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers".
