5.0 out of 5 stars Best Highlights Ever, November 27, 2008
This review is from: NFL / Minnesota Vikings 1999 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This tape was a gift for my husband, and he said he was really delighted to get such a thrilling tape. It's everything he expected it to be and more. It contains the best highlights he's seen and has a lot of build up on the entire season. It also highlights the amazing accomplishments of the individual players and the team itself. Even someone who never liked football before (like his wife) got caught up in it. He was so happy to find that this tape of his favorite Vikings season was still available ten years later.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent review of the best team in 1998., August 10, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: NFL / Minnesota Vikings 1999 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is an absolutely GREAT video. I highly recommend it. It's too bad the best team in football beat themselves in the NFC Championship...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Single Viking Season Ever...Almost, August 31, 2008
This review is from: NFL / Minnesota Vikings 1999 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
For the early and middle portions of the 1990s, the Minnesota Vikings made a habit of reaching the playoffs...and losing in the opening round. Their defenses were always above-average, while the offenses never quite had enough firepower to win important games. That all changed in 1998.

The Vikings won the first few games of the '98 season in easy fashion, then had their "coming-out" party on Monday Night Football against the Green Bay Packers, especially featuring rookie wide receiver Randy Moss, who would go on to absolutely set the league on fire, catching literally EVERY deep ball thrown his way.

During the regular season, the Vikings cruised to a 15-1 record thanks to help on both sides of the ball. Offensively, first Brad Johnson and then Randall Cunningham (after a leg injury sidelined Johnson for the season about half way through) were able to adeptly get the ball to Moss (deep), Chris Carter (middle/endzone), and Jake Reed (flats). Robert Smith led the rushing attack, while Leroy Hoard was the perfect goal-line pounder. On defense, John Randle led a pass rush that allowed a secondary containing the likes of Robert Griffeth, Orlando Thomas, Dwayne Rudd, and Jimmy Hitchcock to intercept balls almost at will. Essentially, in setting the then-NFL single season scoring record, the '98 Vikings were a near-perfect team.

However, as all Vikings fans cringe to admit, it all came crashing down in the playoffs. After easily dispatching Jake Plummer's Arizona Cardinals, the NFC Championship game pitted the Vikes against huge underdogs Atlanta Falcons (led by QB Chris Chandler and RB Jamal Anderson). Despite playing a high-octane style of offense all season, Head Coach Dennis Green turned conservative in the title game. Plus, a missed field goal from Gary Anderson (who hadn't missed a kick all season to that point) allowed the game to go into overtime, where the Falcons won 30-27.

Despite ending the season on a terribly disappointing note, the '98 year is still generally looked back on fondly by Vikings fans. I recommend this tape to anyone looking to relive or remember those "glory days"!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Team. Just one field goal short..., September 15, 2005
This review is from: NFL / Minnesota Vikings 1999 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
It is incredible how a team can go 15-1, en route to a division title, yet not be able to win it all.The 1998 Minnesota Vikings had it all, the quarterback, two all-pro wide receivers, and a field goal kicker who did not miss all season...until the NFC Title game.Even though Atlanta was talented, and won in OT by 3 on the road, this team was the best in 1998 (even better than Denver). This team was talented and they will bounce back. Hopefully.
