4.0 out of 5 stars What is the V@mp line of players doing in the US?, May 25, 2006
By

This review is from: VP-325: 256MB Digital Player (Toy)
I own the V@mp VP-350 and use it as my daily podcast listening mp3 player. The 350 has 512 mb rather than this one's 256. First off, forget the games. I never played them and actually deleted them from my unit to get more space. The interface is relatively simple, but this is definately one where you at least glance at the manual beforehand. The screen is very easy to read when lit, and fairly easy to read when off. I have never used the direct to mp3 line in recording, but the quality of the voice recording from the built in mic is very good. Transfer speed is not the best, but ok. Since this is recognized as a prortable drive, you can store any data or even programs on it. I use the podcastready program (free off internet) to get my new shows. I can plug into any computer and do this.

So, what's the weak points. Well, for one, the thing you hook the lanyard to is not metal. Mine is broken (hence why I'm looking at MP3 players at Amazon). It's still a great player, but that bugs me. Most irritating from day one is that files are played in the order they arrive at the player. So, if you copy an album and it does the standard windows last track, 2-next to last, then one, that's the way you'll listen to it.

What's very cool? The blue light around the joystick. Settings can be set to keep it on all the time. This doesn't seem to have any sigificant drain on the battery. In fact, I have no idea how long the battery lasts as it charges so fast when you hook it up to USB. It can also be hooked up to USB without being recognized as a drive. This is handy. Oh, and the color screen backlight can be toggled to always on too. There is a sleep timer. And you can have your own images flashing as it plays, starts up, pauses, or shuts down. The screen isn't that big, and I find that searching google images and saving the thumbnail it shows you is about the right size.

This is a good player, well, my 512 one is. It's not expandable via SD card or anything, which is what I'm looking into now. I reccomend it, but it's no Rio Carbon, iPod, or Zen. It's a small flash player, designed to be worn in a lanyard style.

Oh, and get some new headphones immediately. None of these companies give you decent headphones.

Four out of five stars.

This is a great mp3 player, we got them for our children for Christmas, they have had to be reset a couple times, one more than the other, They will skip songs meaning not play them when in order, songs will skip. When this happens simply reset the player and it all works out. Otherwise great player, sound is great, screen is great, the kids love having games and pictures on them. BTW, my kids are 9 and 10.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Unit at a Great Price, January 9, 2007

I purchased 2 of these, one for my husband and one for myself. After my husband opened his and saw all the aspects of the mp3 player, mine ended up going to my son! The absolute only downfall is the 256mb. Otherwise, it's a perfect little unit with a nice screen, games and great sound.
