5.0 out of 5 stars sweetest game
I played this game thinking it would be just another GBC mistake,(by the wa i love hockey and hockey games)playing this once hooked me onto it. Playing a season is so realistic and exiting. The players movment isnt to great but i forget about it and just play it. I'd rather play that than my NHL2k on dreamcast!

1.0 out of 5 stars Hockey Rules! (but this game stinks)

I love hockey and I love video games, so i was extremely excited when I first learned of NHL 2000 for the Gameboy Color. I love every EA Sport licensed game that I have ever played, however, after purchasing and playing the game, I was horribly disappointed. I'll be honest, I didn't expect much from the sound or graphics, which aren't great, but are actually fairly good considering it's on the Gameboy Color. The thing about the game that really ruins the experience is the controls. Hockey is a fast paced sport, and any semi-decent player is fairly agile, therefore, a hockey player should be able to quickly stop and start without much hesitation. The players in this game have a tendency to glide to a stop way past the point you want to be which makes grabbing a loose puck next to impossible. Once the puck has been acquired, it seems like it takes forever to reach the other end of the ice at the unbearably slow pace the players move. I stronly urge anyone considering to purchase this game to go to Blockbuster and rent it first. I feel that a persons $$ could be much better spent in other ways than on this game. Just in case someone from the EA or THQ is reading this, please make NHL 2001, but please fix the unpleasant gameplay. Thanks! :)

I find NHL 2000 to to be very entertaining, I don't spend a lot of my money on Game Boy games, but I do get the games I know I will like for a long period of time, and this is one of them. I own about 15 top games and this is my 16th. EA Sports games are one of the best in my collection. NHL 2000 features what I want in a hockey game. GFX, Enjoyment, Color # 1. NHL 2000

5.0 out of 5 stars NHL 2000 reminds me of the good ole Genesis days, January 6, 2000

I was really excited to pick-up NHL 2000 for my new GameBoy Color. To much of my surprise this game looked like a mini version of NHL on the Genesis. Everything about this game is wonderful. The players look and move great and the rink looks really slick. All the normal console hockey features from the EA franchise are included in the game like penalties, injuries, checking, lunging goalies, season play and penalty shots. Overall I think this is the best sports game on the GameBoy. THQ did a great job converting this game to a system with very limited horsepower. I recommend this game to anyone who enjoys playing hockey video games.

2.0 out of 5 stars Controls need help, January 17, 2000

I have consistently purchased EA's NHL games since the debut on Genesis. When the GBC version came out, I had hope that it would translate fairly well. Games on GBC tend to be very simple and easy which leads to plenty of fun. Unfortunately, they tried to do too much for this game. The controls are extremely slow, the gameplay is very choppy (turn offsides off), and there are some unwelcome bugs and chop in the graphics. This game could have been done better for the GBC.

4.0 out of 5 stars Genesis hockey is back!, January 29, 2000

When I bought NHL 2000, like everyone else, I was hoping to be taken back to those good old Genesis days and for the most part I was. I can understand how people could criticize the control but if your a real NHL Genesis fan you'll have no problem adjusting to the controls and having hours of fun with this game. I was very pleased with the graphics with the individual players and I also liked all the updated teams and players. So if you're looking for a game to give you a taste of Genesis type fun pick NHL 2000.

Players do not collide with each other, they pass right through each other. The speed boost sometimes shoots players three quarters the length of the ice. The player's are tinier than they needed to be. This is gameboy, don't be real, be fun. The player acceleration and deceleration is way too slow as well.

being used to the PS version, perhaps i was expecting a bit more. still, there is much room for improvement here. players are annoyingly stupid in this version. they jump the blueline *all* the time or just take a nap in the offensive zone causing many offsides calls. also, pulling the goalie seems to work infrequently at best (my shootout mode doesn't work at all, so maybe i should be happy.) having the check and speedup buttons combined can be very frustrating - you try to check your man and end up flying past him down the ice. that all said, it still can be a pretty fun game. just don't expect too much.
