BUYER BEWARE,

This game started off ok. Around December 11 for me the game suddenly froze. Couldn't do anything. So I emailed 2K sports about it. They replied with this:
You'll run into a freezing issue any time you use the trade finder, save your franchise, restart the system, and sim/play a game between the dates of Nov 20th and the trade deadline with CPU trading turned on. There is only one way to use the trade finder safely without causing problems in your franchise. After using the trade finder you must sim/play a day between Nov 20th and the trade deadline with CPU trading turned on before saving your franchise. So find trades, sim/play a day, then save. The problem is I never play with computer trading on. The computer makes the worst trades. So the franchise is freezing anytime I make a trade. Is there a patch? Absolutely not. They rushed this thing to get out and now a lot of people are stuck with a $60 piece of junk. Buyer Beware.

I've been playing EA sports nhl series since 1995. I still think NHL 95 is the best version they ever created. BTW, I have the NHL Hockey TV game sold here on Amazon also. With NHL 08 I find the controls to be frustrating. Though it may be a bit of a learning curve to adjust to 2k8's control scheme, I just think its much better than NHL 08. I've played the NHL 08 demo and like some earlier version of the series I hate the control aspects. I rented 2K8, despite the lesser reviews compared to NHL 08. I'm glad I did. Finally, a satisfying game of hockey! Its not perfect, but at least I enjoy playing it. Something I cannot say for Ea sports games anymore.

NHL 2K8 looked as though the 2K Hockey series had finally turned the corner in next video hockey. The graphics were much improved over 2K7.The franchise mode is deep. The goalie animations and AI are the best a hockey game had ever seen. Plus there was the ability to upload sliders and rosters online for fellow users to download. Yet for all the game did so right, there was enough wrong with it that kept it from being great. Something that has seemingly plagued every 2K Hockey game since going to the 360/PS3.
First off, the rest of the Cpu AI lacks terribly. On Offense, it lacks creativity and never feels like a threat. On Defense, it's all about checking anyone and everyone with no regard to positioning and proper D. This tends to lead to alot of wide open opportunities. Then there is the control scheme, which is a bit awkward at first. Though the full range of control while dekeing with the analog is nice, pressing buttons to shoot feels dated after playing EA's game. Finally, if you buy the PS3 version there was no patch available for the franchise freezing that happened usually after using the Trade Finder feature. Still there is enough fun to be had with this game to warrant buying it and it's considered one of the best 2K has released by many longtime 2K fans. 2115|RD6LA921E9G75;2115|R14NFD0J52EUGJ;2115|RRWLZLD4KF992;
