I just love the way this game plays. The season section is the best, along with stats for every game and the whole season. You also can make your own player right down to where he came from!! Also during season play you can trade players and let other players go. The game is simply the greatest hockey game I have plyed and I still play it today. EA sports really put some time into this game and it shows!!!!

This game is so cool. Even though it has some old things to do on it (like create a player, trade a player etc.) it still is the best hockey game. The graphics are much better than NHL 99. I say that if you like hockey games than pick this one!

The opening FMV is nice. The stat tracking keeps me happy as well. All the teams are there, lots of players, but where did the refs go? This game suffers immensely from game play, all tied to the rules. Rules broken so often that it'll drive any hockey fan nuts. Little rule infractions include being on the blue line being considered out of the zone and the AI players sitting and watching the puck roll by them to get past their goal line so they can touch up for icing. It snowballs quickly into these obnoxious little hooks that the AI uses to slow your players down. Their sticks clearly come out and they pull you back to them, the definition of the hooking penalty. It all climaxes with the goalies and pucks that cross the goal line but aren't counted. Yep, that's right, the puck clearly goes into the net and comes out the other end. NHL 98 has a fantastic reply system, and taking a look at it shows all the grotesque infractions the game makes. The back tip of goalies skate edges "grab" pucks going into the net and corral them, pucks take mysterious left turns, they hit the "glass in front of the net", other times they simply go through the net (as shown *conclusively* by the replay). These major problems cause NHL 98 to be one of the worst hockey games I've ever played.
