5.0 out of 5 stars Best Playability of any Hockey Game, May 9, 2005
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: NHL Hitz 20-03 (Video Game)
Complaints I have with other hockey games like EA Sports and Fox Sports titles is that they are either too easy or too hard. This game allows an amazing amount of customization of the difficulty so you can apply a little more difficulty to offset something you are really good at when you want more of a challenge.

I have seen some complaints about the fantasy aspects of NHL Hitz but I think they add a lot of fun to the game. I also like the fact that you play 3-on-3 (plus goaltender). That really opens up the ice for some beauty goals and spectacular hits.

This game is just too fun to miss!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as Nhl Hitz 2002, October 24, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: NHL Hitz 20-03 (Video Game)
Although the graphics are slightly better, this new version of NHL Hitz was very disappointing! I bought it and then turned around and sold it on Ebay! I was so frustrated with the slow play it had to go. There is also no code entries allowed on this version, so if you are used to having unlimited turbo or getting points for winning fights it won't happen here. If you want a realistic hockey game this may be for you, but if you like to smash people through the glass, get into fights and catch your team on fire, stick with the 2002 version.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hitz......on the ice, October 25, 2002
This review is from: NHL Hitz 20-03 (Video Game)
NHL Hitz 2003 IS different than NHL Hitz 20-02,because franchise mode is......and the way you unlock things is.......I will explain this in the next sentence. Ok,the good things are,in franchise mode you get to have 9 players and 2 goalies rather than 6 players and 1 goalie, another thing is that you already have everything that could be unlocked in NHL Hitz 20-02 but,of course, their are other things to unlock including:Crocodile head,Demon Head,Jungle Arena, and more. There are also "World Teams",like Team Canada, and Team Russia, and Finland. The NHL stadiums are WAY BIGGER. For example:when the teams come out on to the ice,you hear people cheering, booing, and screaming like in real life,in fact there are even people taking pictures and doing "The Wave". Some new features include the all new "Hockey School","Tourney Mode",and an all new franchise mode. I'll get to Franchise mode in a bit but there is also "MINI-GAMES",such as:Own the Ice,King of the Rink,Shootout, and Three in a row.
Another change is that there is a Referee and penalty's,(you can turn penaltys off),there also is advanced options, meaning how easy it is to score, how often your opponent hits you,the color of the puck, etc.
Now for the Franchise Mode. Franchise Mode is very difficult. You start out with a team overall of about 30,while NHL teams have overall's that range from about 69-97. In NHL Hitz 20-02,if you win a game you get attribute points+bonus question points and give them to your players. For NHL Hitz 2003,you need to complete all tasks and win the game to fill up your experience bar. For example:Win 1 fight,Win 2 face-offs,
do 5 stick checks,Complete all tasks and Win Game. Completing tasks is the ONLY way to fill up your exerience bar,you do NOT gain experience if you win alot of games without completing all tasks or by getting bonus questions right. Bonus questions don't do anything but add up points and if you get alot of bonus points you unlock a new stadium, team or something else. Another thing in Franchise mode is that you don't just go in order for the teams you go up against, you start at round 1 where you play 4 teams in any order, complete all tasks and win all games and then play the (boss team). You don't advance to round 2 unless you beat the (boss team). There is a locker room for your created team,so you can create your players, edit your players, choose a logo, where your team is from, your team's name, choose your captain, your players gear etc.,once you fill up your experience bar,you get attribute points but,you don't give them to your players "indivially"(not sure if that's spelled right),instead you add the points to all of them. For example:well, first of all,you need to know how many points you have based on your performence. If you want to increase your players speed it shows how many points you need to get to add your attributes. So if you have 6 points, you add any speed attribute points since you don't enough so you can either fill your experience bar again or spend them on something else. Here's a better example:think of it as buying attribute points,if you don't have enough you don't get it,so let's say you want to increase your players shooting attributes, and that costs 5 points, yepiee!,you have enough so you buy attribute points for your team. For every time you buy attribute points they are all split up and sent directly to your players,so then their shooting attribute points all increase by 7,all of your players get +7 attribute points towards their whatever you picked. Thank heavens I finished that!

Now the gameplay is pretty much the same as NHL Hitz 20-02 although, goalies are way harder to score on.And the bodychecks and dekes and hits are alot cooler. Oh! Something I forgot to mention, you can NOT take away points and add points to your players, what I mean is if you make your guy heavy he will be very slow but will have good checking and toughness. Playstyles also affect your player, like if you choose sniper then he will have really good shooting but everyting else will be really low. And then his averge would be low and your teams overall would decrease.
But now to the graphics. The Graphics are really good, you can see the players facial features, you can tell whether their mad, sad,or happy.
Sound.Sound is like real.
Truly I love this game, the only drawback is how hard Franchise mode is. I reccomend buying this game. That about wraps it up.
Here are the scores:
Gameplay:10/10 (franchise:2 out of 5 stars)
Sound:10/10 5 out of 5 stars
Graphics:10/10 5 out of 5 stars
Overall:10/10 5 out of 5 stars
total:17/20=4 STARS

One more thing, the hits ROCK!With music from:Rob Zombie "Feel So Numb",Powerman 5000 "Bombshell" and more!
