5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting game with big hits
Upon trying this game I found that it was quite entertaining. I found that the 3 on 3 format plus goalie was adequate as the rink size is a bit on the small side. I think that more than 3 on 3 would probably crowd the game play. It was fun to build my own team and then progress my way through the tournament, building up the stat points of my players as I went. 3.0 out of 5 stars Great party game
Here's the deal with NHL Hitz: If you don't have friends over too often, don't buy it. The single-player novelty wears off fast. If you DO have friends over a lot, buy this. It's an addictive multiplayer game, with the ability to even play minigames. But outside of the multiplayer aspect, this might not be your kind of game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the money!!, November 25, 2001

I think some of the other reviewers were looking for a different type of game. This game is from Midway so I expected an NFL Blitz type of game. But this blows Blitz out of the water. It's very fast, easy to learn, good graphics, customized teams and players and you get to fight! So if you are looking for a "real life" hockey game buy something else, but if you want hours of knocking (at) people this is the game for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars NHL Hitz, September 16, 2001

NHL Hitz is a great hockey for this upcoming season. If you liked NHL 2001 then you will love this come. Great game play, sound, and control make this game almost perfect in every aspect on the game. Plus it has amazing player animations, especially with fighting and reactions after being checked. Next, this game has a great new fighting system that almost seems like it's, it's own game. Last there is a new feature that hasn't been used since NHL 1997, and that is a skills competition just like in the NHL All-Stars game in real life. You can practice shoting, manuevering past defenders, and improving your speed. Overall NHL Hitz for Playstation 2 is going to be this years best hockey video games out.

5.0 out of 5 stars HITZ is a HIT, September 27, 2001

Well I went out and bought BOTH NHL Hitz and NHL 2002 on the same day. Both are very good games in their own rite. Hitz seems to do everything right. It is a fast paced arcade hockey game with all the bells and whistles. I was aprehensive about buying them both at the same time but rest assured they both are solid games. The animations in Hitz are hilarious. Sutle little animations that you don't even notice until you've played it a few times. The fighting system is a treat, it almost brought a tear to my eye. EA needs to take a serious look at this system and hope they can try and get it half as good in 2003. I have only played one player but I bet it is wicked fun with a two or more players. I can't wait to try it out. Well there you have it, a must buy for all hockey fans. Totally different beast than the standard fare. Now my only problem is finding time to enjoy them both.

I accidently broke the CD for NHL 2001 Which was awsome! Since I already played it I wanted to try something different... So, I went out and bought NHL Hitz... I was blown away! The graphics were 10 times better, the action was heart pounding, the checking and fights were out of this world... Oh yeah I forgot to tell you, I have a home theatre in my basement and the screen is over 7 feet diagonal... My friends andI almost had a heart attack while playing this game... I recommend this game nomatter what size your tv is...

Quite simply, this is one of the best games I've ever encountered in my twenty-plus years of gaming. I've never liked sports games before, but from the moment I started this game I was hooked. I've always loved hocky, but found that most games were either too dull, too complicated or just didn't have the graphics that make this game light up the way it does on the Game Cube or any other platform. If you don't own this game, buy it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Best hockey game for PS2 yet, March 27, 2002

I was really disappointed with NHL 2002 so I imediately went out and bought NHL hitz and let me say that this game rocks. I really love simulation style hockey which this game is not but I still miss the days of playing NHL Open Ice in the arcades for hours. This game has no simulation value but it is so addictive you will have trouble putting down the controller. The graphics are great and the announcer is loads bettert than EA Sports feeble attempt. The only gripes I have with it is that I know it is arcade style but come on is it that hard to at least keep track of goals by a player for a game or even season basis? i thought that was kinda weak and also be prepared to play a no defense game. It doesn't exist here. The game is designed that games will be high scoring and when one team amasses a lot of goals it usually compensates by allowing the other team to catch up easier. Finally when playing season basd games there is no difference between teams. No matter how good or how bad the players on a team are how good that team is is determined by what order you play them with the first team being easy and the last team the hardest. So technically you could play the Red Wings first and whoop them but play the THrashers last and they are unbelievably good. This is why I do not give it 5 stars but it still gets 4 since EA Sports is losing their credibility with me. I am still yearning for a truly great hockey sim to hit shelves for a console unit but until then I have to stick with PC versions and NHL Hitz is just good clean wholesome hockey fun arcade style!

It's so fun you get to get in fights and smash people through broards. You get to be Team pony if you get 1000 cerdits. The best part is Ed the talking horse on team pony. If you like smashing the food that you had for dinner and checking people i highly recomend this game.
