5.0 out of 5 stars A great followup to 20-02
My friends and I have been huge fans of 20-02 since it came out a year ago. So we were naturally very excited about the prospects of 20-03. We were not at all disappointed. This version is a much deeper experience than last year's version. If you played 20-02, you may have noticed all the various logos available when you created a team. This year, all of those logos...

3.0 out of 5 stars buy it cheap .. and enjoy
This game really is not too bad.
I am not a huge Hockey fan, but decided to pick it up after the devils playoff victory!

The graphic are very good and the gameplay is fairly easy to pickup. It certainly doesn't suffer with some of the complicated control formats of other games.

Overall it is fun to play and we keep returning to it now and again. By the way the...

5.0 out of 5 stars A great followup to 20-02, September 18, 2002
This review is from: NHL Hitz 2003 (Video Game)
My friends and I have been huge fans of 20-02 since it came out a year ago. So we were naturally very excited about the prospects of 20-03. We were not at all disappointed. This version is a much deeper experience than last year's version. If you played 20-02, you may have noticed all the various logos available when you created a team. This year, all of those logos have computer based teams for you to play as or against. The modes are much deeper, including what amounts to a world domination mode where you begin in small arenas (those of last years game) against minor league teams and work your way up to play the big boys. Your custom rosters are also deeper. You begin with last years six players and one goalie but as you progress in this mode you can add additional players for even more depth. The graphics have been upgraded as well. You can now clearly differentiate between players solely by their faces. A couple of things different than 20-02 that I've noticed already. One, instead of scoring three goals to catch on fire and your team needing three one-timers for team fire, this year it is much easier to do both. By playing solid defense and making some nice plays, you have two status bars that gradually fill up. Hit the white button after the first bar fills, boom, you're on fire. If you wait until both are full, hello team fire. Another difference is in the fighting. This year, after a fight the winner and a teammate of the loser (who is still gone) are in the penalty box for 30 seconds. During this time, it's 2 on 2. One more difference I've noticed is that you upgrade your team's attributes as a team and not individually (after so much experience, your entire team increases speed, strength, and so on), but you also get equipment upgrades that can be used individually. It sounds complicated and I'm still feeling it out, but I think it's going to add great depth. Add to all this mini-games (tic-tac-toe, shooting out windows, king of the rink) and it just blows 20-02 away. It takes a little getting used to, but if you liked 20-02, you should be blown away by 20-03.

5.0 out of 5 stars great game, May 25, 2003

I really enjoyed playing this game, it is really fun to slam into other people like that while your playing hockey. I liked the fact that there was 3 on 3 instaed of 5 on 5, because then it would just be to crowded and confusing. It is a really fast-paced game with high scores that is really fun to play with a few friends. The little mini-challenge things are really fun and hard to get to the very high score. So if your a hockey fan then this game is definitely worth your money.

First, let me start by saying that I usually only enjoy sim sports games. But NHL Hitz is one of the most fun sports games I've played. It's definitely a game meant not to play alone, but you can still have some good games against the computer, although more often than not, the computer is too easy to beat on three of the four levels.

I've never been a fan of arcade sports games, but am completely sold on Hitz

5.0 out of 5 stars Deck Him!, May 13, 2004

NHL Hitz 2003, is the sequel to the game from Midway "NHL Hitz 20002". This is an arcadey type of hockey game, where there are no penalties for fighting and doing illegal plays. You can slam your rival against the glass sheild and see glass shatter and the players helmet fall off. Then you can even play with the helmet as if it were a puck. When your players get angry, you'll see them get into fisti-cuffs. The game is played three on three and features real world teams and fantasy teams as well. The skate rinks also include both real world rinks and fantasy rinks like: a circus, aquarium, disco club, military base plus more! I just love it as is adds to the fun elements of the game. You can play against the CPU (which is formidable) or your friend. There is even co-op gameplay. There are tons of options so you can adjust the gameplay to your liking; including create-a-player, create-a-team and even franchise mode. The game has TONS of fun unlockables. The graphics and sound effects are wonderful, the commentary can be turn on or off, but they are good and never get too old.

Pros:
+exciting gameplay
+excellent controls
+excellent graphics
+excellent animation
+excellent sound fx
+excellent A.I.
+tons of adjustable options
+tons of unlockable bonus
+fast loading on XBOX
+replay feature
+co-op gameplay

Cons:
-not realistic gameplay
-music sucks (but can be turned off)

If you like games by Midway, which are arcadey and fantasy filled, the you should get this one. But if you want a realistic
simulation of Hockey game, you should get something else.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Hockey Action, March 26, 2003
This review is from: NHL Hitz 2003 (Video Game)
I've never been a big fan of the many 'sports simulations' out on the market today.. Too complicated for me having grown up with Nintendo Ice Hockey as one of my all time faves.

NHL Hitz is fast paced, in your face, with very little strategic tweaking. If you're looking for a great pick up and play title get it!! Now only if they had Xbox live support......

This is one of the funnest and addictive hockey games I have played. The game features provide endless entertainment, and the game speed makes you feel as though you're playing live in the game. A must have for any hockey fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard hitting fun, January 17, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: NHL Hitz 2003 (Video Game)
I own an XBOX 360, but had to reach all the way back to my Nintendo 64 days to find a hockey game worth playing. NHL Hitz 2003 is the XBOX version of the nintendo game which is compatible with the 360. I previously bought NHL 2007, but found that like most sports games today, it is bent on being as realistic as possible...regardless of the fact that you are pushing buttons, and not holding the stick and skating. (Realism = frustration in my book.) NHL Hitz, on the other hand, holds to the fact that a video game should play like a video game, and this game does it in style. The passing and shooting is simple, and combined with the turbo feature, checking has never been more fun. (Time it right and your opponent will sail right through the glass of the sideboards.) There are some fun minigames to play with friends if you get bored with a regular game of 3v3. With all that said...it's pretty much a good time waiting to happen.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Game, April 15, 2004

I've never enjoyed hockey games until this game. It's NFL Blitz meets Hockey and it is awesome. I've found myself watching hockey on TV now because I know so many players from the game. Great hitting action and fights, fewer men on the ice ( 3 and a goalie) increased speed, and few rules. Plus all kinds of great extra features and challenges!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The most fun i've ever had in a hockey game., January 21, 2004
This review is from: NHL Hitz 2003 (Video Game)
NHL Hitz 2003 is my favorite hockey game. I bought it because I wanted a fun arcade style hockey game. Its really, really fun, and it hasent gotten boring. Theres alot of action. There are still some rules and penalties. The worst part of the game is suprisingly the fighting portion. Fighting isnt very bad, its just not very fun. I dont hate though and it can be good sometimes(like when you are playing multliplayer and wanna beat up your friend!). The gameplay is addictive, and I cant stop playing. This would be a fun game to play online. The graphics are good. The solid but short soundtrack in this game features Rob Zombie, Incubus, Hoobastank and Drowning Pool. You can also use a custom soundtrack. If you are looking for some great hockey action, then buy this. Its definitely the most fun i've ever had in a hockey game. It hitz hard!
