5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Put...The Greatest Video Game Ever Made...
I know that's a pretty bold statement, but it's true. NHL '93 incorporates all of the best elements of the NHL Hockey series. 3.0 out of 5 stars A good sequel.
This is a good sequel, but it is not as fun as the games that follow it. The graphics have qutie a bit of work, and the gameplay needs to play a little catch-up. It is fun, but there are better games to come.

I know that's a pretty bold statement, but it's true. NHL '93 incorporates all of the best elements of the NHL Hockey series. The thing that separates this game from the rest is the aggressive nature of gameplay. Fights come fast and furious and there is blood present after you best an opponent(something that was since removed from all subsequent versions). The gameplay is nothing less than flawless. I will never forget the first time I turned this game on and the players actually slid on the ice, from that point on I was hooked. Although the graphics now seem dated, they were revolutionary for their time. Nothing would give me more pleasure back in the day then beating my brother in NHL '93 with the Hartford Whalers featuring Murray Craven, John Cullen and Sean Burke. As a hockey fan, you just can't get anymore old school than NHL '93. A MUST OWN VIDEO GAME! In fact, I still have my Sega Genesis just so I can play this game. Highest Recommendation.

I dont think that there was ever a better video game created, this comming from a guy that hated this game when he first got it and never played it. Sure, plenty more games that came out after it look better, are more accurate, and offer more features, but no game will ever come close to NHLPA 93's level of entertainment. Fights, injuries, intermission highlights and Jeremy Roenick make this game so great. Even though PS2, Xbox, PCs, and other systems offer more advanced and better looking games, I have never played anything more fun than this game, and I dont think I ever will. This game simply can't be beat. I keep comming back to it over and over again for hours of fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Game in the EA series, October 8, 2004
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: NHLPA Hockey 93 GEN (Video Game)
This is the best hockey game in EA's series. Some would say that later games like NHL 97 or NHL 98 were the best in the 16 bit era, that the "later" the games got the "better" they got, but I completely disagree. Not only do I feel that that NHLPA 93 has the best graphics in EA's 16 bit series, but by far the best gameplay. Pucks bounce around unpredictably, and the ONLY hockey game in the series with the guts to add not only fighting but also BLOOD!! NHL 94 is considered the best by many due to the addition of "one-timers" and "goalie control", but truth be told you'll have more fun without these options as it makes the game more challenging and fun. Plus the gameplay in NHL 94 does not compare to that of NHLPA 93, one timers and goalie control or not. We all know the DEBACLE that was NHL 95, and NHL 96-98 were way too fast and the gameplay was subpar compared to NHLPA 93. Judge for yourself, buy all the games and you will see. Get hooked with the greatest intro to a sports video game ever, and have a blast down nostalgia lane with NHLPA 93, the greatest hockey game ever created!!

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST EVER!!!!!!!!!, February 4, 2001
A Kid's Review
This review is from: NHLPA Hockey 93 GEN (Video Game)
do you know what best game ever means. WEll it doesnt matter because this game is exactly that. If you called up websters dictionary and those other smart people they would tell you nhlpa 93 is the definition of best game ever. You dont need to spend $300 on a PS2 to have a good time. Not when you own a Sega Genisis and nhlpa 93. The game is great it has such good graphics sometimes i have to remind myself its just a game. In this game the puck looks so real that when you shoot sometimes i duck because i think it is really going to hit me. Trust me you dont need those high technilogical games and systems to have the best time ever!!!

I bought a Sega Genesis Machine in 1994 after I rented NHLPA 93 and then I bought the game itself and I still have both tucked away after all these years, Even though I am almost 50 now and my wife thinks I am nuts when I drag it out and hook it all up and play it. I will admit I don;t play it often anymore but I would never get rid of it. The fighting, the checking, the attitudes of these little cartoon men are just amazing, I bought NHLPA 94 with the one timer and goalie controls and still own that as well but I will still drag out NHLPA 93 and plug it in and play it when I am 80 years old, That;s how much fun this game was and still is, I know nothing about X box or modern games but NHLPA 93 as others have mentioned here is a true classic sports video game that will be remembered forever as such.

OK, so this is an old school game with 64bit graphics so why would anyone want this when they can have the all singing, all dancing PS2 and Xbox NHL07 versions? Simple - this is so playable and fun it is a must for any sports fan. Its a shame that EA hit the high spot with its hockey coverage 13 years ago!!! Everything since has failed miserably, yes the graphics are better (a lot better!!) and sounds, crowd everything has been improved BUT at the cost of the most important element - gameplay. This game is just so smooth and set at just the right pace you could swear the little guys really are skating on ice. So, do as I have done and banish the PS2 to the cupboard, re-buy a Genesis off ebay, get your pads on, grab a stick and go PLAY THIS GAME!!! Its THAT good.

Best hockey game ever! Fighting is the best!!! Brings back memories when I was a kid. The old days where you would actually have to keep your own stats. Bobby Probert is a beast!
