The iC4 is NHT's high end--and maybe the world's best--8" in-ceiling speaker--really. It features an all aluminum version of NHT’s patented 3-tweeter array that produces flat frequency response up to 60 degrees off-axis and creates a consistent sound-field. No more hot spots and "not" spots, just a smooth, even response, with great intelligibility no matter where you are in the room. The iC4's 8" woofer enables the speaker to go all the way down to 40Hz...no subwoofer required.

2-Way In-Ceiling Design

The iC4 is a very high quality 2-way system, employing a 8" anodized aluminum woofer and a unique, coaxially mounted 3 x 1" anodized aluminum dome tweeter array managed by a very high quality 2nd order crossover network. The iC4 can play very loud as needed with very low distortion because its all aluminum drive units can efficiently cool: heat causes a speaker to change electrical and acoustical characteristics which adds distortions to the original signal. The driver units are also moisture resistant, all the hardware is stainless steel and the frame is polypropylene and the mounting lip is gasketed which allows use in bathrooms, pool, patio, outdoor eves and other high moisture areas. A proprietary diffuser is also included for the inside grill center which provides a smooth response when a listener is located directly under the speaker.

Easy Installation and Long Life

The iC4, like all NHT architectural speakers, is designed for easy peasy installation by a handy home owner or installation professional and is quite ruggedly built. A convenient cardboard template for the cutout is included to hep make installation location and retrofit cutting easier. The iC4 has a fail-proof, 4-point spring-loaded, dog-ear clamping system that grabs the ceiling material with a death-grip even when the mounting surface is uneven, with integrity and simplicity. The springs preload force maintains constant pressure and seal with the ceiling surface and therefore eliminates the posibility of the speaker coming loose over the entire life of the installation. This feature is important because sheetrock compresses when clamped--non-spring loaded, rigid clamping systems can become loose over time and begin to vibrate, the air seal can leak causing the speaker to lose bass and cracking can occur on the paint line. The gold-plated speaker terminals are easy to use spring-loaded, push-to-open types which will also maintain high-pressure contact on the speaker wire over the life of the installation.

Paintable Grills for Custom Room Designs

The iC4 is painted with a neutral white primer and may be painted to match with typical latex paints. When painting, the grill and speaker frame is painted separately. A convenient cardboard paint shield is included to protect the drive units in the speaker frame.

Custom Framing Bracket Available

For new construction, NHT makes the iCB8 (sold separately): a new construction framing bracket which allows you accurately place the speakers location during the framing stages of construction much like a recessed lighting fixture. The iCB8 provides a lip that the sheetrock or wall finishing crew flushes up to to provide perfecting mounting for the iC4. Note that the iCB8 is NOT required for retrofit in existing construction.

The IC4 uses the same configuration and materials as NHT’s acclaimed IC3 with one important exception. In the IC4 we upgrade the woofer to an 8-Inch driver which adds even deeper, dynamic bass output all the way down to 40Hz. The aluminum 8-Inch and three tweeter array not only provide a wide sound-field, they reduce distortion, while improving power handling and output. The IC4 is designed to maximize a realistic home theater experience with the dynamic range and full range response of a stand alone speaker. Designed for ease of installation, the IC4 like all NHT architectural product is ruggedly built and has a spring-loaded clamping system that grabs the ceiling material with integrity and simplicity.
