True audiophile quality which would make Bose owners cry!,
By Matt (Plano, Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: NHT SuperZero Bookshelf Speaker (Single) (Electronics)
These speakers are amazing! They are tiny, yet produce the hugemids and highs, along with an expansinve sound stage that competeswell with other speakers. Yes, they are virtually devoid of bass responce, the sealed design shows that NAD was commited to accuracy and imaging and wouldn't sacrifice them for a bit of boom. If you team these with the SW1P subwoofer, they earn a Stereophile Class C reccomended component. If you don't want to add a sub, get the SW2P, or even one of the quality other subs, (like the Design Accoustics one) and you will have full range musical glory. These speakers would also be ideal alone for use in a dorm, or as an "upgrade" or replacement speaker for popular shelf systems. To get better sound than a set of super zeroes teamed with a SW1P or SW2P, you would have to spend big bucks on speakers from B&W, Vandersteen, or Thiel, and the law of diminishing returns WOULD be applicable..

NHT only honors the 5 year warranty on these speakers if purchased through an authorized dealer. Amazon.com is NOT authorized. The only .com authorized to sell these with a warranty is Crutchfield.comJust a warning to all of you out there.

NHT SuperZero's, living up to the hype?,

I have been reading the hype about the Super Zero's for years. Now that I finally own a pair I must say they do deliver solid performance. The highs are crystal clear with out being harsh. This makes them well suited for home theater usage as well as for listening to music. (I boost the treble slightly for home theater.) The mids are warm and natural. The bass response leaves something to be desired but they don't claim to produce killer bass. They are rated from 85Hz to 25kHz. Pairing them with a sub-woofer helps round out their performance. They handle the wattage (100 w) from my Harmon Kardon 210 quite well. The high gloss finish gives them an attractive appearance. They come with a threaded socket for wall bracket mounting. These speakers can also be used as rear satellites, coupled with the super twos for the fronts. Do these speakers live up to all the hype? Maybe not, but they are a great choice if you are tight budget.

Great Sound! Less Money!,

These are awesome speakers! I bought 4 for my home theater system. The sound is amazingly clear and even though they are small, they give lots of sound. From what I understand, these speakers use the same tweeters as the top end model by NHT. Can't beat the price, either.

This is the perfect speakers for midrange and high tones. Extremely warm and smooth tones - great for jazz and classic music listening. I've got 4 of these units primarily for home theater listening though. It's a perfect mix and match satellite speakers for audio DVD experience. After much searching for a home theater package system - I found there really wasn't a very good solution. This pieced together with a center channel and decent subwoofer will not disappoint. You will definitely need a subwoofer and an AVReceiver that can pump enough energy out. The actual design hasn't changed much from it's inception. The high-gloss is truly like glass. These are great build and finish quality for such a reasonable cost. The speaker connects are too closely packed together for easy wire installation - but I can live with the nuisance for the outstanding sound and value.

nothing short of incredible,
This review is from: NHT SuperZero Bookshelf Speaker (Single) (Electronics)
Muddy is the LAST word I would use to describe these speakers. I would like to see the kind of crap the above reviewer is powering them with. I replaced a pair of B&W DM602's with these and a small Velodyne subwoofer and have never looked back. These are not made to produce bass. They are made to be perfectly flat all the way down to 100hz, which is where the subwoofer comes into play. I would not recommend these if you like loud heavy music and are not planning to get a sub. With a good sub however, I would pit these against speakers costing $1000's, no exaggeration there.

Great Little Speakers For The Price!,

Pros:- The sound stage of these speakers is incredible. You can't tell where the sound is coming from. Music is open and airy. - The sound is very controlled and tight as this is acoustic suspension design. No ports for the low frequencies here. - Very accurate. The sound that comes out is strong, but not annoying. You can listen to these speakers for hours and not get fatigued. I can't say that about my current set of BIC DV62Si's. - Mids come out surprisingly well, good for movies as well as music. - Make sure you have either a receiver or amplifier that is strong enough to power these speakers. I was almost worried that my Yamaha would not be powerful enough but it is. I'm not kidding, if you have one of those inexpensive "Class T" amplifiers I would be scared to try it, get something better. I cannot emphasize this point enough, these speakers require lots of power! - These are the original "disappearing" speakers. They are so small when complimented with the right stand. When the subwoofer is hidden away it looks like the huge sound is coming from the little black boxes. - Very classy looking and stylish. - Paid $124 on Ebay with local pickup from original owner. - If you want true hi-fidelity sound and you don't want to pay too much, pair these with a good subwoofer from Velodyne and you'll be in music heaven. Tough to beat this combo unless you go with a pair of Martin Logan Vista's, but that's getting expensive. Cons: - These speakers aren't being made anymore so the ones that are still around are getting old (10 years?). If you get lucky like me you can find one that's been babied and still in great condition, but they are getting harder to find. - Used speakers in good condition are still fetching $100+ prices. - A subwoofer required for the bass. This is not an option and even though it's a well known con, it merits mentioning. I suppose if you wanted to use it for computer speakers or bedroom it would be fine, but the way the sound comes out so natural and clear it makes you want to have the bass to complete the sound.

muddy sound, audiophile quality alright,

This review is from: NHT SuperZero Bookshelf Speaker (Single) (Electronics)
I brought a pair new, mainly due to quite a few positive audiophile reviews. However, I am extremely disappointed. The speakers sound unclear and muddy. It is worse than my old $200 Boston Acoustics bookshelf speakers, which were replaced by this pair. The only thing I can say about audiophile reviews - you are going to waste you money if you believe them. Audiophile quality, right... |
