A Good Alternative to Microsoft Word, March 17, 2007
This review is from: NISUS Nisus Writer Express 2.0.1 ( Macintosh ) (CD-ROM)
I've been using this program for about two years to write novels, articles, my kids' reports, etc. While it doesn't have the bells and whistles (or the price tag) of Word, it's a sturdy word processor that is great for writers and students.
Pros
1. Very easy point and click interface. I've always had to consult a manual when trying to set up headers and footers in a Word document. With Nisus, the headers and footers have their own boxes above and below the main body. Adding a header title and inserting page numbers is a snap.
2. It can handle long documents, such as novels, without bogging down the memory. I've yet to experience a file going corrupt on me.
3. You can download PDF documentation from the manufacturer's website. If you still have questions, you can visit their forum for support.
4. Imports graphic images well, allowing you to place them exactly where you want.
5. Files convert into PDF format without any formatting problems.
6. I was able to import documents into InDesign and format my text from there.
Cons
1. Nisus Writer does not come with a generic graphics (drawing) feature, like Word does. I would have loved to have been able to add boxes on a page of my son's report or a simple header gradient in another project.

No support, February 28, 2009

Nisus has nice software, but they will not support you. Avoid this stuff !! I wrote them about 10 times after my Nisus crashed, and they just blow you off with short e-mails. Terrible support. Avoid at all costs !!
