This has quickly become my favorite study bible,
By
This review is from: NIV Archaeological Study Bible: An Illustrated Walk Through Biblical History and Culture (Leather Bound)
If you like the NIV and are a visual person, this edition is the study bible for you. I love it! Not only is it packed with color photographs of actual pieces of history that are relevant to the text you are reading, but the commentaries provide valuable insight as to what is taking place historically at that particular time and where the biblical happenings fit into that picture. There is a brief historical timeline at the start of each book that allows you to see the order of events at a glance. There are detailed charts on topics of particular importance. There are several cross-references, indexes and color maps. Each and every page is entirely in full-color. The words of Christ are in red. Overall, it really makes biblical history come alive and does an excellent job of illustrating just where it all fits secularly, as well. I highly recommend it.

Archealogical Study Bible,

This review is from: NIV Archaeological Study Bible: An Illustrated Walk Through Biblical History and Culture (Leather Bound)
This is an excellent first effort introducing a new paradigm in study Bibles. This Bible is for serious students who desire a Bible study based on geographics, artifacts, history and archealogical discoveries past, present and future. This Bible is not for new Bible readers or those who wish a study for personal application. It is a Bible for academic pursuit.

The Archaeological Study Bible (ASB) is an excellent resource for understanding and interpreting biblical passages because it provides a level of context for the passage. With the supplemental information, the reader or scholar can not only understand what is happening in the world around which the passage takes place, but can understand the background of why certain practices take place. For Example, in Genesis 21:8 Abraham has a great celebration when Isaac is weaned. The explanation suggests that infant mortality was so great at the time, that for a child survive to the age of weaning (2 to 3), the child would survive to adulthood. The illustrations, photos, and maps also contribute to understanding.

This is one of only a few items that once I saw, I knew I had to have it. I like the "European Leather" cover but the real draw to this is the inside. It's packed full of archeological information tied to the Bible. Between the articles, color photos, charts and maps, the information itself is worth the price of the book. The fact that it's sprinkled throughout the text makes it even better (where do you find information on Xerxes? Go to Ester).
I only gave it 4 stars because while I like the NIV, I prefer the ESV or the KJ or NKJ. That is more preference than anything else so if you like the NIV this is a great item for you.

I got this Bible as a gift for my husband's birthday. We had seen the hardcover editions at the bookstore, and he wanted one. I found this leather- bound edition, and it looks much better if you plan to use it as your primary Bible. The only drawback is the size. It is very big and rather heavy, but it is very useful and fun to read.

I love this Bible. I have given it to 3 people now and they love it also. One to my husband at his Baptism. It is great to read God's word and get a since of the history with pictures from the time of our Savior. I hope anyone who buys this Bible will read it and come to know the Lord as their own personal Savior. God is Awesome and so is this Bible.

I really like this Bible. I'm a History major in college so I am fascinated by the historical side of the Bible, as well as the spiritual, moral, etc. sides of the scriptures. This Bible is a great tool for better understanding the message of God's Word in the context of the time and culture in which it was written. I've already learned a lot from this book. I highly recommend it!
